Overall, there were 762 murders in Chicago in 2016. It was the deadest year in nearly two decades. For example, in 2016 on Father’s Day weekend 12 murders were committed and Christmas weekend 12 murders out of 27 reported shootings. On New Year’s Eve, residents and activist the city carried 800 wooden crosses down the streets of downtown, as they called for an end to community violence. Time and time again-the (residents and activist) call has been met with over 145 murders since the start of 2017.

Chicago Police reports show that many of the homicides in Chicago were gun-related. In 2016, there were 3,550 shooting incidents and 4,331 shooting victims, and five police districts on the south and west sides of the city accounted for nearly two-thirds of the increase in murders, according to the Chicago police department.
On the south side of Chicago-the streets of the South Shore community have changed and it’s changing due to community violence for the past thirty years.  For example, late last month in March, eight people, and a fetus were killed as the result of this same tragic violence. The name Jerry Jacobs was not among the list of people known to community activists as a victim of the tragic gun violence that had taken place across the east side of Chicago. Police authorities believe his death may have been the catalyst for a quadruple homicide the following day.
Reports show Jacobs was shot by gunfire, ran to a hospital blocks away, afterward there was a serious need for Jacobs to be transferred to a trauma center much as 15 minutes away, it cost him his life, some in his family believe.
Jacobs was a murder that surprisingly had no mention by police. The community has been terrified, shocked to the core with grief and concern to end this latest wave of violence, said long time resident Betty Washington. “I have been in this community for over 48 years, and I cannot recall a time that would properly describe March 29th and 30th, it was like a war,” Washington said. Chicago police are yet to properly describe what happen to Jacobs a 37-year-old African American male, who has struggled to get his life in order. He was killed on March 29th at approximately 11:15 PM while walking down the street on 79th and Phillips.

The Recent Murder of Jacobs and Others
Last week during a news conference (picture, below) with Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, it was announced that Maurice Harris (19 years old) was responsible for the deaths of four people at the Nadia restaurant located 75th and Coles. They were identified as: Emmanuel C. Stokes, 28, Edwin Davis, 32, and brothers Dillon Jackson, 20, and Raheem Jackson, 19 each shot to death allegedly by Harris in revenge for the murder of his father Jacobs.

Tragically,  the double shootings that occurred at 7100 S. Yates, likewise a recent shooting located in South Shore that killed a 27-year-old male and a 23-year-old woman, left members of the Chicago police department processing the murder scene after murder scene. In total four different murder scenes. Left families of the victims shaken, terrorized, and hurting. At each scene police having to deal with traumatized families wounded to the core, offered little to no assistance from the city of Chicago.
During the news conference Brendan Deenihan, commander of Area Central detectives stated that Harris exercised his right to remain silent and that he was being charged with 4 counts of murder based off of identification by 3 witnesses.

“This argument appears to be weak and similar to how others were charged with serious offenses during the Jon Burge era of the Chicago police department,” said Val Love the aunt of a Chicago police torture victim that remain incarcerated based off of torture and false identification. When people are charged with offenses we must be certain that the right person is being charged and that the evidence supports that charge, and I am not confident of that in this case at this time, says Love.  For the record from 1972 until 1991 Burge tortured confessions from suspects inside interrogation rooms while using coercive tactics against witnesses to force them to cooperate with fabricated claims to support the police theory in the cases. Burge was fired in 1993 from the Chicago police department for acts of torture.
Relatives and friends of those that have been gun down on the streets of Chicago have been denied trauma treatment and other social services from the city of Chicago for decades. People barely able to walk as they have been traumatized through grief, losing someone to violence. In the most of Chicago’s crime-affected areas on the south side, there is no trauma center that is open, there is no grief counseling made available to them and often the families must accept the pain with all of its psychological associations and not receive one any meaningful form of treatment.
_
Efforts to bring attention to the violence:

After the shooting of Jacob and others-I met with Chicago Alderman Greg Mitchell along with Pastor Greg Greer, who is President and Founder of Freedom First International. Our concerns involved the lack of response by the Alderman over the South Shore Community where this violence was occurring. At the time of this article (two days after the shootings), The city has offered the wounded family and community no healing and no services. Family and friends of the victims laid across the concrete pavement in anguish as they try to cope with their lost. This is a scene all across Chicago, however not on the same levels as Chicago’s southside.

We requested Alderman Mitchell to get more involved with his community and to reach out to the families that have been affected as the result of this massacre. It was our request that the first year alderman make attempts to gain a trauma center for his ward and to establish sound programs for both younger and older residents in his ward.

The meeting went well and we look forward to change in the south shore community and also to establish a dialog between the community with their new alderman.
Also included in the conversation was the fact the relatives and friends of those that have been gun down on the streets of Chicago have routinely been denied trauma treatment and other social services from the city of Chicago for decades. People are barely able to walk as they have been traumatized through grief, losing someone to violence. In the most crime-affected areas on the south side, there is no trauma center that is open, there is no grief counseling made available to them and often the families must accept the pain with all of its psychological associations and not receive one any meaningful form of treatment.

Meanwhile, Harris who is held at the Cook County Jail has been informed that he will not be allowed bond and would be unlikely an attendee at his father’s funeral. The south shore community is in need of programs and jobs. It’s a community that has seen entire blocks abandoned with vacant lots. Unemployment, poverty, and ineffective drug treatment centers. When crime affect communities police and the city must step up and accept responsibility.

South Shore Chicago residents sit in fear knowing that they are receiving less protection from its police and it has really been visible the past two years. (mc)

A Faith Commentary: If God Gave you five minutes to Live by!

If God gave you five minutes to live by, what would you do in those last moments. Would you try to fulfill any dream that you have always wanted to complete?
Would you spend that time saying goodbye, to your family members? Or would you spend that time traveling finding the worldly exotic pleasures-that made you happy in life? After all was said and done would you wait until the last minute to “get it right with God.”

The Christian Faith dictates, that followers should not wait until the end of their lives to obey, honor, and empower your faith. One reason why we all must react is because no one knows the appointed time the end will come. Much like the corporate manager who puts the junior manager in charge of the office while he is away. As people of faith we must plan for this very important moment at the end of our lives by taking charge of our lives until our leader(God) returns. Tragically, most people don’t prepare for the moment when death catches up to them but God ask us to proceed with eternity in mind.

Stories of those who have had a deathbed conversation, show that if you look mostly at elderly people, you will find that they always tend to take the end of days more seriously and are better prepared. In truth none of us know when were going to die, perhaps we’ll live until old age or maybe you’ll die in a tragic car accident tomorrow. (Hope not!)

If you haven’t done so, make your life right with God Today-Tell him that you are sorry for all sin. Then make every effort to obey him. Regardless of the circumstances. When it’s over all that really matters is what you’ve done.

Key Question: What immediate steps can you take to incorporate these changes right now into your life.

What do Blacks and Hispanics have to Loose? May we present- The housing discrimination case against minorities by The Trumps.United States of America v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump and Trump Management, Inc.

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

NEW YORK  On July in 1972- when a black woman “undercover,” asked to rent an apartment in a Brooklyn complex managed by Donald Trump’s real estate company, she said she was told that nothing was available. A few days afterward a white woman “undercover,” who made the same request was invited to choose between two available apartments. At the time civil rights organizations such as the Urban League began to send testers to Trump properties.

In October 1973, the Justice Department filed a Federal civil rights case that accused the Trump firm, whose complexes contained 14,000 apartments, of violating the Fair Housing Act of 1968. A lawsuit came after a government sting where the U.S. government-sanctioned investigations at properties across Brooklyn and Queens which determined whether Trump Management Inc. discriminated against minorities seeking housing. The case was one of the biggest federal housing discrimination suits to be brought during that time, put a spotlight on the family empire led by its 27-year-old president, Donald Trump, and his father, Fred Trump, the chair. According to the The account which gained notice in a 1979 Village Voice investigation was based on a review of more than 1,000 pages of court records, including hearing transcripts and affidavits that have received little attention in the decades since the case, as well as interviews with people involved in the case. Also details were shared in a recent  a Daily Beast story.  The legal battle which lasted 20-months marked the very first time Trump became a regular presence on national newspaper front pages.

Working from offices in Washington and New York, Justice Department lawyers decided to file a case: United States of America v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump and Trump Management, Inc. Details of the case would show Trump employees had selected and  marked the applications of Blacks and Hispanics with codes, such as “No. 9” and “C” for “colored,” according to federal investigators who gathered the evidence according to interview accounts presented and filed in federal district court. The employees allegedly directed Blacks and Puerto Ricans away from buildings with mostly white tenants, and steered them toward properties that had many minorities. A white woman who went undercover in 1973 named Phyllis Spiro, told investigators how at a Trump property a building superintendent acknowledged to her “that he followed a racially discriminatory rental policy at the direction of his superiors, and that there were only very few ‘colored’ tenants” at the complex, according to court records.

Trumpdiscrimination_tear02 (1)

(Tear sheet from U.S. v Fred Trump complaint from October 1973. )

According to government filings one black woman, for example, was turned away at a heavily white complex but told that she should “try to obtain an apartment at Patio Gardens,” where “a black judge had recently become a tenant,” according to government filings.

At the time the suit was filed, Trump had been thinking about veering away from his father’s focus on providing housing for lower- and middle-income residents of Brooklyn and Queens, and envisioning his future as a developer of luxury buildings for the rich in Manhattan.

But now the first thing most people were hearing about Trump was that he was being accused of discrimination-Later Trump would say, “The idea of settling drove me crazy,” he wrote in “The Art of the Deal.”

“What we didn’t do was rent to welfare cases, white or black,” Trump wrote in his 1987 autobiography. “I’d rather fight than fold, because as soon as you fold once, you get the reputation of being a folder.” The federal case ended when Trump negotiated a consent degree with the DOJ, requiring him to advertise vacancies in minority papers and list them with the Urban League. The Justice Department said “racially discriminatory conduct by Trump agents has occurred with such frequency that it has created a substantial impediment to the full enjoyment of equal opportunity.” GLG

Lessons from the Heart: A Ring Box Christian.

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

(Lessons from the Heart: A Ring Box Christian-Part 1 of a 15 part series)

Marriage is an institution that solidifies the symbol of a union between a man and woman, it starts when a person gives an engagement ring which is a precious piece of jewelry-and we might add that it can be passed down through generations — if you take proper care of it.

Of course, most people will never open their ring box and expect something ugly inside, but if there were ever a circumstance where a young man got on one knee and pulled out the ring box to give it to a young lady and she responded by saying, what a “beautiful box, it’s what I’ve always wanted, throw away what’s inside, I’m the happiest women on earth.” Then most people would probably say, this is a comedy skit of some type.

In reality, the ring on the inside is always the main attraction of the moment, the box solely exist to make the ring look good-Mostly you would see features like black or white satin or velvet aligning the box to make the ring stand out and shine.

But if we are to follow the Apostle Paul-who uses jars of Clay to make the same reference in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31- Paul simply declares, that we are ordinary people -in ordinary packages not ornate glass vases. Paul then urges us to not live in a way that draws attention to ourselves-instead we seek to showcase the brilliance and beauty of the spiritual being inside of us. In an age in which we see preachers wear diamond watches, ask for “new” jets planes-to replace the older model that works perfectly fine, arrive in a motorcade of limousines and highlight the reaching influence in their community of the national ministries.

The Prophets of Biblical age probably wouldn’t have been impressed by the new age “money earning” preachers in our modern time. They (Prophets) by all historical doctrine were humble men of humble beginnings. If we are to be “true,” people of faith, acknowledge that humility is vital to discipleship, which requires that we love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). All that is inside of us.

diamondReading

That means the truly “ring box,” outside will never replace the shining diamond on the inside of you, as Paul would suggest-we simply have to understand, the diamond treasure inside of you shines brightest, only when you polish your soul. Inside of you is the brightest, biggest diamond that man has ever seen. So forget about the wonderful outside, work on the diamond inside of you. glg

The result is a wave of crime against civilians in which these murderers continue to harm the public and further inaction from the D.O.J will only increase these crimes.

According to an ongoing petition from Amnesty International:

The U.S. government must do more to ensure policing practices nationwide are brought into line with international human rights standards, including the use of lethal force, and to address systemic racial discrimination. The Department of Justice has failed to collect accurate, comprehensive national data on police use of force, including the numbers of people killed or injured through police shootings or other types of force.

Thus far locations to be announced include Chicago, Atlanta, TexasThus far.

The Hate that Hate Made!

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

On Today July 17, 2016, many are aware of the current national news headlines detailing two cops who were killed in Baton Rouge, and multiple cops killed in Dallas, Texas last week.

In the wake of Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Mike Brown in Ferguson, Freddy Gray in Baltimore, Eric Garner New York City, Alton Sterling in Louisiana and stolen lives-elsewhere, most of the time black people in city’s across America have known for some time that there is a deep rooted issue in our communities. Many of us are totally aware of the nature of police oppression and violence against the black community in urban cities. This has happened to such an extent that we as (blacks) expect from the police a regular “shake down, ” at least once in our life and for some-we’ve become immune to this treatment.

baton-rouge-police

So maybe we should just start by saying a black man is three times more likely to be searched at a traffic stop, and seven times more likely to go jail than his white counterpart. Blacks make up nearly 40 percent of arrests for violent crimes, but  over 60 percent of prosecutions. Everyday thousands of blacks have suffered subliminal forms of discrimination to harsh issues both inside and outside the criminal justice system. We don’t need social science research to show how striking are the racial disparities exist at nearly every level for blacks-just go into the hood and ask a black person!  We have suffered from mass incarceration by ungodly arrest rates, to unheard of bail amounts for minimal crimes. One truly doesn’t need to  shift through any vast body of research to find the clearest indicators of racial disparities at different phases of the American Justice

Another study, by The Sentencing Project, examines vastly disproportionate rates of incarceration for African-American Men. We should be asking ourselves why these disparities exist?

Black-men-in-prison-300x208

With institutional racism in Job, schools, and communities black  have no choice but to push our way forward from here,  and most will tell you they are long tired of being victims.

Gregg L.Greer-President, Freedom First International-S.C.L.C Member

I’ve said in the recent past- Tamir Rice, Eric Garner and others are not victims of the lopsided school systems that failed them. They are victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are a victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill if they feel threatened in any way.

With institutional racism in Job, schools, and communities have no choice but to push our way forward from here.

The Father of hate will forever be lies, the forested lie that hate tells is some races are better than others. Eric A Russell-Founder of Tree of Life Justice League of IL.

Yes it’s tragic that Police officers who responded to Sunday’s shootings killed Long in a gun battle after the other officers were ambushed, police sources told CNN.

It’s sad that two of those who died were Baton Rouge police officers, said Police Chief Carl Dabadie. The gunman also killed a sheriff’s deputy and critically wounded a deputy who is “fighting for his life,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux.

Another wounded deputy and police officer have non-life-threatening wounds, law officers said.

It is with this thought in mind-that we embrace the pain-that other communities are feeling, because we know this pain-it’s a way too familiar pain. This pain has slowly given rise to Black Militant groups such as the one pictured above. (Armed Black Militants Prep for War-you tube)

The pain that black’s have endured for many years-which simply says-we are victims of a certain Moral blindness– Which means every single black person in the eyes of a racist  is the sign of a terrible crime from their ugly past, a reminder that their life is a fraud, that they need to simply own up to their past and make it right. Instead of denying, shifting blame, or to lie, twisting the facts and make black people into these ungodly creatures that they look down on, laugh at and yet, oddly, fear. It is a failed attempt to be at “peace,” with themselves. Can someone consider apologizing to the Black community for the long hard years of systematic oppression. Maybe the killings of cops would stop.

It is my hope and most likely a dream- that the President and others who discuss the tragic circumstances of Dallas, and Baton Rouge will spend equal time discussing the level of frustration in the black community- I will caution all that-the time came yesterday- when the black community grew tired. Please know that we don’t want to blame anyone for senseless loss of life-but please-please tell me who’s to blame for the “Hate that Hate made.”

 Peace and Love

Hey, Rudy Giuliani -It’s time to shut the hell up! Buddy!

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

Earlier today when I saw the news story about former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who called Black Lives Matter “inherently racist” and “anti-American” — and even incorrectly claiming that black children have “a 99% chance” of killing each other.I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry, or even laugh to the point of crying.

Rudy.jpg

Appearing on CBS’ “Face The Nation” on Sunday, Giuliani had little to say about the deadly police shootings that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement and nationwide protests — including the one in Dallas that was ambushed by a cop killer.

Instead, he said it is up to the “blacks” to show respect to police officers.

“If you want to deal with this on the black side, you’ve got to teach your children to be respectful to the police, and you’ve got to teach your children that the real danger to them is not the police,” Giuliani said.

Well I say, The former New York City mayor doesn’t know the first thing about the intersection of race and crime. As a mayor he built his career on scaring white New Yorkers with fears of black criminals, to the point where he can’t help himself. While at the same time. No one denies that black urban communities have experienced violence and more crime than their white counterparts in smaller or more upsale communities.

But Rudy, you are the last person whom we need to discuss the Chicago violence amongst the black community, because as I recall it was on your watch that Abner Louima,  a Haitian was assaulted, brutalized and forcibly sodomized with a broken-off broom handle by officers of the New York City Police Department after being arrested outside a Brooklyn nightclub in 1997. You did absolutely nothing!

What about the well known Rudy Giuliani’s claim to modern greatness, during his time in office. When recalling September 11, 2001. In the wake of 9/11, Giuliani simultaneously rallied and eulogized the city through the most shocking calamity but simultaneously Giuliani exaggerated and whitewashed his own role in this event, as he would come to do about almost every aspect of his administration.

Oh Please let’s discuss, how Giuliani’s  perceived success goes to the very heart of political mythmaking or even a Living lie-that we call Rudy Giuliani your behavior was considered to have made New York an “ungovernable” city. By the start of the last decade of the twentieth century, the number of murders in New York had surpassed 2,000 a year. Public drinking and drug use, fare beating in the subways, panhandling, graffiti homelessness, perennially filthy streets, rampant pornography and prostitution in the city’s Times Square center. NYC was a dirty city-Thanks, Rudy!

Lastly, we understand Giuliani’s pride for his own self with regards to your crime credentials as a former prosecutor. Why did the rebellious daughter of former law-and-order Mayor Rudolph Giuliani get busted for allegedly stealing makeup from an upscale beauty and skin care shop near her Upper East Side home in August of 2010 sources said she allegedly stole five items, worth about $100.

Finally, Let’s count Giuliani’s  failed Presidential Run-in 2008 or when the media reported that while Mayor of New York, Giuliani had billed to obscure city agencies several tens of thousands of dollars of mayoral security expenses incurred while visiting Judith Nathan, with whom he was having an extramarital affair.

Hey Rudy, I can keep going in on you-but I like to end on a positive note, Let’s just say you are struggling to remain relevant and your timely rants get you immediate publicity. Do yourself a favor! Shut It Up!

PEACE and LOVE,

Divided America: Please don’t compare the murder of Alton Sterling and others to the Police shootings in Dallas

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

As the headlines rage giving details to the recent Dallas Police shootings:

At least five police officers have been shot dead in the United States at protests over recent police killings of black men.’

Gunfire broke out late on this Thursday during an otherwise peaceful protest over two recent police killings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana . The sound of gunfire sent marchers running and police scrambling for cover.

dpdshootings_1226met

The Dallas Police Department said on Twitter : “It has been a devastating night. We are sad to report a fifth officer has died.”

I for one pray that not one more person looses life, because the wicked act is no way an accepted course of action to remedy what many believe is huge governing failure on all parts of our society. This country (USA) has the highest incarceration rate in the world for blacks, and that’s failure.”

Not much time has been given to solving one of this country’s most diabolical challenges—the persistence of homicide in poor African-American communities “that’s a failure”.. The numbers are staggering. From 1980 to 2013, 262,000 black males were killed in America-“that’s a failure.” By contrast, roughly 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam “that’s a failure. For many years the killers of these men were, in the vast majority of cases, other African-American men.

I must say I disagree with the President this time-because I don’t believe that we should balance our remarks in this time by saying “Blue Lives Matter, or All Lives Matter”-this to me is an insult that supports a strategic cover up on some folks part-to dilute the issue. The issue is that it’s time to speak to the heart of the matter and address the change that is necessary to prevent more lives from being lost.

I was immediately disturbed when watching CNN coverage of the Dallas shootings, Anchor Brian Williams kept comparing the shootout in Dallas to the murders of young Black and Latino male attacks around the country and the world. This has to change, period

Justice can no longer be unbalanced and accepted because we will all lose, and no one wins this time. We all loose through blood sweat, and more tears.

Peace and Love,

Alton Sterling, aka the local CD man was continuing on his day on Tuesday at just after midnight (12:35 am)  in Baton Rouge, Louisiana then this happens: as a precaution I have to warn you the video is unsettling as well as it tells a tragic story. The video of Sterling’s fatal shooting — by two police officers seen holding him to the ground — has sparked immediate protests and outrage, along with comparisons between Sterling and other black men who were killed on camera by cops, such as Eric Garner, Laquan McDonald and Tamir Rice.

Here are a few details about the developing case taken from various news agencies:
Alton Sterling

Sterling, 37, was a father of five children, his sister Mignon Chambers told WAFB.Few details were known early Wednesday about Sterling’s life, and some circumstances of his death remained unclear. An anonymous 911 caller and an officer in the video said Sterling was carrying a gun and threatened someone before he was killed outside the Triple S Food Mart.

However, store owner Abdullah Muflahi told CNN that he never saw Sterling get into a confrontation, Tuesday night or otherwise.

According Journalist Sean King: We’ve seen a lot of police brutality these past few years, but seeing the police first tackle and manhandle Alton Sterling, mount him like a UFC fighter, then pull their guns out and shoot him repeatedly at point-blank range, killing him right there in front of his local convenience store where he was known as the “CD Man,” was equal parts devastating, infuriating, heartbreaking, maddening and overwhelming.

It’s sad that another family has to experience a murder of their loved one, and once again the reaction from police results in murder. Where are the body cameras, why did it take a shooting when Alton was ready tased? Just the same as in my son Tamir’s Rice case-we are still fighting for justice from the Federal Government, this is the ultimate tragedy. Why should we have to fight for human life? Period!

Samaria Rice, Mother of Tamir Rice

thK8RJ7DP1
The shooting of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old African American boy, occurred on November 22, 2014, in Cleveland, Ohio. Two police officers, 26-year-old Timothy Loehmann and 46-year-old Frank Garmback

I have seen the video, and as a Civil Rights Leader-I have concerns, to the extent that I will assist the family in their fight. Freedom and human life must be first. Our lives must begin to matter. Up until this point I’m not sure young black lives have mattered!

More details to come…

Chicago! The Death of Chandra Foreman. The Chicago Killing Fields are thirsty for Blood! When will our Lives matter

Chandra Foreman was the last person murdered by gunfire in the Month of June in Chicago. Foreman had went to her job at Comcast early that day, where her co-workers had decorated her desk and held a party in honor of her 37th birthday on Thursday June 30, 2016.

Foreman was shot and killed and four others were wounded when a gold Buick with four people inside pulled up about 9:45 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Loomis Ave,when two gunmen opened fire from the back seat, according to Chicago Police.

According to Cathy Gerald, a friend who was immediately told about the shooting inside Foreman’s car, and also the three other people were shot on the front porch of Foreman’s aunt’s home. Gerald said her cousin, whose wife was also shot, called and informed her about the shooting. The cousin didn’t know if Foreman had been struck, but when Gerald arrived at the crime scene she was more then shocked, “I knew she was gone,” Gerald said. “She was gone.” in reference to Foreman.

  Network Video Productions

Foreman died while being transported to Holy Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. She (Gerald) was told that two groups (possibly gangs) were shooting from either end of the block and believes Foreman was struck while she was waiting inside her car outside the house.

“I didn’t get to talk to her today,” Gerald said. “I sent her a text and wished her a happy birthday.” The unfortunate thing is Foreman died on her birthday.

Police said the shooting was gang-related. Even more unfortunate is the fact that no one is in custody at this time.

Despite the efforts of the Police to control the communities, 2016 is on pace to become one of the most violent and bloody periods in the past 20 years. We would ask for people to understand that Chicago has been in the spotlight with nearly 2,000 shooting victims, some of them among the 331 homicides, in the first half of the year, according to trusted data. In all of 2015, there were a total of 490 homicides.

WRAB

Many groups including-The Midwest Coalition for Social Justice and Peace has been formed to research the global needs of the community and find ways to bridge this divide.   For my part, I will say that public confidence in the job of the Chicago Police Department remains at a all time low-especially in communities of color. As long as the trust barrier exist and people are not motivated and do not believe in community policing-then people and communities will suffer.

The Journey to Obedience. Faith Commentary

Have you ever seen The U.S Blue Angels who are the US Navy’s Air expedition team? If you have you have seen the awesome power of McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet

031008-M-7120M-008
US Marine Corps (USMC) Captain (CAPT) Kevin Reece, Marine Aviator for Vertical Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 212 (VMFA-212), pilots his F/A18 Hornet over the South China Sea to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan.

This powerful unit cost US $29 Million per unit and the Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations and, since 1986, by the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.  The F/A-18 has a top speed of Mach 1.8 (1,034 knots, 1,190 mph or 1,915 km/h at 40,000 ft. or 12,190 m). It can carry a wide variety of bombs and missiles, including air-to-air and air-to-ground, supplemented by the 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon. It is powered by two General Electric F404 turbofan engines, which give the aircraft a high thrust-to-weight ratio.

The point of this narrative is that with all this technology there is one vital element that is required to be effective. A Pilot who sits behind the controls. This unit would be vulnerable without a human being-also this unit would spiral out of control and crash.

So similarly, you can posse every known gift imaginable but if you don’t allow God to guide you in using those gifts, then they are useless. More seriously you may spiral out of control and crash. As the captain of your ship, the pilot of your air craft is God. (don’t listen to the bumper stickers that say God is my Co-pilot) they are so wrong.

Imagine if Moses and Aron didn’t go into Egypt and tell Pharaoh to let my people go. Sure they were in fear but they decided to listen and follow the journey that God had prompted for them, yet as a result of their obedience The Nation of Israel benefited, Moses grow to become the leader of a new nation.

Our planet

God desires the same for you, understand it will not be comfortable but if you familiarize yourself with God and then set sail into the “Airways of life.” You will find a journey that is filled with wonder and amazement. On this journey you’ll leave behind old attitudes, old relationships, old sins, and old ways of thinking. On this journey to obedience you will obtain technical gifts from God that you have never imagined or even realized,

As a favorite song of mine says-Give me the Sky and I’ll give you heaven. As long as you believe the best is yet to come.

Many believe James Meeks is a traitor to his community-A complete Sellout! Hmmm

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016
James T. Meeks is African American and a former Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, who represented the 15th district from 2003 to 2013. He is also an active Baptist minister in Chicago and former chair of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus.
Many feel James Meeks is a traitor to his community- again, many agree James Meeks is a traitor to his community. First strike against Meeks came when he took a lot of heat for backing Governor Bruce Rauner who was elected in 2015. Meeks went against the interest of the poor, black and minority community to accept a position of influence in this “Elitists” Republican administration. Rauner’s net worth is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars

Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner then named former State Sen. James Meeks chairman of the Illinois State Board of Education, as the Republican’s new cabinet and staff began in January of 2015.

Understandably Meeks, had been made aware that as a Chicago Democrat, his endorsement of a “Rightwing,” Neocon,” Republican in Rauner caused a stir. Due to the fact that since taking office the Governors agenda has been damaging, selfish, and wholely outside of the interest of the mainstream public.  Gov. Bruce Rauner and his team including Meeks suspended $26 million in social services and public health grants as part of his push to whittle away at a $1.6 billion shortfall in the current state budget, making life hell!- for seniors, the poor and inner city citizens.

The last straw was this past week-when Rauner used extremely demeaning language such as calling Chicago Public Schools a ” crumbling prison” to argue the school district doesn’t deserve an additional $100 million in funding shows he has no to little regard for the struggles of working and lower-income inner city Illinoisans.

Rauner and meeks.jpg

When you look objectively at the status of Chicago Public Schools many of them are inadequate. Many of them are woeful and some are just tragic. Many of them are basically just crumbling prisons.” Bruce Rauner

In the meantime Rev. James T. Meeks, has been disturbingly non vocal about this issue. In fact far beyond the  disrespectful verbiage of his boss-Our good fellow- Meeks has not said a word in defense of helpless young poor black children as Chicago Public Schools have struggled thoughout community. Not a word!

According a 2013 article from the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance,

Rev. Meeks has made his contempt and disgust of many communities very clear.  He has said publicly that LGBT people are “not natural” that we’re “an evil sickness”, and supports a deadly anti-choice stance. Meeks also believes in the exclusion of Latinos, and Asians as minorities, and that women of all races should not be considered a minority community because they “are not people who have been discriminated against.”

Rauner and meeks.jpg 2
James Meeks (left) and Govener Rauner (Right)

I along with many believe James Meeks is standing on the wrong side of the fence and on the wrong side of history! We must begin to call out our communities provocateurs. Maybe it’s time someone had a “COME TO JESUS TALK.”  or a “COME BACK HOME TALK, or even A COME TO YOUR SENSES TALK!

DANGER: Are you a Revolutionary, an Ignorant Fascist or just a plain ole Fool!

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016
I’ve spent the past year back in Chicago, and the past ten years around the country working toward positive civil rights campaigns. As a leader I’ve directly participated in a few of the major modern historical civil rights campaigns across the country. Examples being Tamir Rice, as Advocacy leader, The George Stinney Jr. Case as an Advocacy Leader. I have fought against Stand Your ground in Florida,  as the leader I’ve  organized multiple Police Brutality campaigns in Chicago and around the nation. I never liken myself to be a revolutionary-because I know the commitment and force needed to take on such a title, but subjectively I possibly could use this title. Hmmm!
GGRP
Recent 2016 Black and White Picture of me and other’s protesting the Chicago P.D.
In any case-at this point I believe I am qualified to address the issue of those who subjectively claim that they are revolutionaries because they seem to lead the youth and others that they represent into a downward spiral of false idealism’s, rising tempers, growing arrogance and misplaced self-confidence. This “toxic,” combination becomes so dangerous that they lead some to arrest (jail) or even those who lose their lives, unnecessarily in every instance.
Let’s look at the historical work of at least One “True,” Revolutionary to see what they would say about this subject.
A True Revolutionary: Do not enjoy the Comforts of unjust system that they don’t believe in:
Che
Two new books open a window on “Che” Guevara (above) and his quixotic quest to remake the world and on his comrades who, like him, were, as he wrote, “willing to forgo every comfort to fight for another country” and to follow him into the worst abysses, from Zaire to Bolivia.

Unrealistic Wannabe’s: Complain, Complain, and Complain but still live in comfort-Still go to school, still use the churches and courts, and will call the police in a hot “New York” minute. Yet and still they claim to be anti police or a police abolitionist. Hmmmmm!
Any true revolution is considered an event which has a major impact on changing the political, economic or social structure of society – usually in a short space of time. A revolution may be violent or peaceful in order to achieve its aims. The aims of revolutions are usually tied to an ideology, e.g. Communism, liberalism or related to national independence.
pro-confederate-flag
Unrealistic Wannabe’s: If your idea of revolution is to pick up a sign and simply protest on a downtown street about government or an “alleged,” mistreatment but you always stand behind someone else’s movement or action- then please ask yourself is the trend setting movement worthy of your time or anyone else’s for that matter.
Mostly importantly fighting-for human rights is a high level challenge-you should know that most fanatics psychologically are unable to “back down, and admit defeat, ” They may cause you more harm them good. Those who don’t strategize or who have no true method to their cause, should at best consider just calling themselves activist or maybe a cult in truth. Whatever you decide, please really think about, who you are and your reason for participating.
nazi-party-hero-H
WE MUST LEARN FROM HISTORY-there is a fine line between revolutionary thinker or Fascists, and a fool!
During the 2nd World War, the Nazis’ used revolutionary and nationalistic propaganda to win over most German Nationals-But soon thereafter anti-Jewish campaigns increased in scale and ferocity. In the invasion and occupation of Poland, German troops shot thousands of Polish Jews, confined many to ghettos where they starved to death and began sending others to death camps in various parts of Poland, where they were either killed immediately or forced into slave labor. In 1941, when Germany invaded the Soviet Union, Nazi death squads machine-gunned tens of thousands of Jews in the western regions of Soviet Russia. Unfortunately many of the Natural Germans who fell into the evil flow of Nazis Party and promoted German nationalism and anti-Semitism-paid highly for their critical misstep, when Nazis Party felled-even to the extent that Germany has changed forever to date.
As it is said genuine revolutionaries, whether they fail or succeed, often win the hearts of the world’s romantic and idealistic, especially the young, who admire in them their passionate rejection of an unjust economic and social order which they insist causes so much hopelessness and needless death. Ernesto “Che” Guevara, “probably the most genuine revolutionary leader,” as even Henry Kissinger admitted in his memoirs, inspired such admiration–admiration that can be seen still in the banners and T-shirts worn by a younger generation seeking to protest “globalization.”
Che 2

Question: Are you willing to die for it?

In the end that Latin America is still, as Guevara complained, “torn asunder by hunger, poverty, disease, injustice and hatred. In this sense, Guevara’s awesome offering may be found in the lessons of his short life.
For my part I have to say, “unless you are willing to live your life, give your life and everything else to fight for cause-don’t tell me you are a revolutionary, and stop leading the youth and others astray because then you become an enemy: Word to the wise!

The Slow Death of Neo-Conservatism and the Eurocentric Era

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

Washington, DC is currently in the middle of Trump’s taco bowl diplomacy controversy-with Trump  facing disapproval ratings north of 70% among Hispanic voters, Donald Trump reached out Thursday, with a fork. He tweeted a photo of himself at his desk in Trump Tower, smiling and giving a thumbs-up, with a taco bowl in front of him. “Happy #CincoDeMayo! The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!” the tweet said. (pic, below)

Trump eat
Is this move defensible? Well- “Hispanic,” as defined by the Census Bureau, as well as by common sense, is not a race. It is rather a designation of immigrant provenance that has been applied in ways ever more bizarre as the years have passed. It classifies people by national language—not the language of the immigrant—so that a youngster from the Dominican Republic gets lumped together with an Indian from the Bolivian highlands (even if that Indian does not speak Spanish), not with a Haitian who grew up ten miles away (even if that Haitian does).
Republicanlogo_svg.png

On the opposite side of the deep divide is the G.O.P or beter known as the Republican Party-known to many as a passionate core of true believers mostly American, mature whites, and armed with right wing values has contributed to record turnout numbers in the first wave of primary polls, and, despite a series of missteps from Trump, they’re not wavering in their support for the front-runner. In opposition to the swelling polls- According to the US Census the minority population rise is boiling again, with xenophobia against Arabs at a height, and Latinos, already the largest minority according to the latest US Census data–35.3 million strong.

“If Trump has the most delegates and they go with someone else, I’m out,” said Joe Geiger, a Trump supporter from Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Citing a study by Northwestern University psychologists Maureen Craig and Jennifer Richeson, Jamelle Bouie frets that white Americans who are Neocons will react to their future minority status with ever-more conservative leanings and angst, perhaps making the country’s future electorate as racially polarized. Here’s what the study found:

Using a nationally representative survey of self-identified politically “independent” whites, Craig and Richeson conducted three experiments. In the first, they asked respondents about the racial shift in California—if they had heard the state had become majority-minority. What they found was a significant shift toward Republican identification, which increased for those who lived closest to the West Coast.

Neocons represent a political movement born in the United States during the 1960s among Democrats who became disenchanted with the party’s domestic and especially foreign policy. Many of its adherents became politically famous during the Republican presidential administrations of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Neoconservatives peaked in influence during the administrations of George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, when they played a major role in promoting and planning the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Prominent neoconservatives in the George W. Bush administration included Paul Wolfowitz, John Bolton Elliott Abrams, Richard Perle, and Paul Bremer. Senior officials Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. (below)

Classic American Errors Caused by Failings of Neoconservative Policy

1. False Premise for Going to Iraq War

2. 45 Million Americans Without Health Insurance

3. Controversial Assertion of Executive Power

4. Skyrocketing Deficit

5. Too close to the Edge on Torture

6. Politicization of the Department of Justice

7. No Robust, Sustained Alternative Energy Policy

8. Hurricane Katrina Exposed FEMA Woes

9. SEC Allows Investment Banks to Go Unregulated

10. No Child Left Behind: A Few Bumps in the Road

Trump with corn rolls

One has to wonder just how severe of a crisis will be posed to Republicans if Trump fails to claim the nomination. That’s because the Trump movement—risks alienating a motivated base of American supporters. If the G.O.P were smart then they should consider the “Browning of America,” and if the Trump Campaign were smart then they would do the same.

Burning Bush Moments in Life

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016.jpg

burning bush
_
Today, as I think about the many changes that my life has taken, I felt the need to share with my faith audience my platform that has helped me time and time again when learning from the moments in life that things seem dark and hopeless. Fear not because God has given you a plan.
 _
God doesn’t always speak to any of us in the way we wanted or even expected. If we turn to our bible we know Balaam never imagined hearing from God through the mouth of a donkey (Numbers 22:28) or Mary was very disturbed when Gabriel appeared at her doorstep, as she was to learn of the savior that she was to birth (Luke 1:26-28) also Moses didn’t expect to hear a voice coming from the burning bush in the desert.
Moses
Amazed that the Bush was on fire Moses decided to investigate, and although God made the first move-As a man it was left to Moses to engage, and receive the directions that God was reserving for his life.
_
I define the moments as “Burning Bush Moments”-so what about you? can you think about any experience that you would consider a “Burning Bush Moment,” Well, here is the good news- God may be trying to speak to you though any situation in life large, small, good, bad or even something we may think is insignificant.
_
Please note that there are times when God’s voice speaks though larger events as well. If we can compare these Moments to television -we would describe these moments as “HD or high definition.” A note from my personal struggle is when I ran from the calling to become a Pastor for many years, God saw fit to humble me to submit because the lives of those around me were effected. For example when my brother passed in 1994 after struggling with a long-term sickness.
 _
In summary God could be trying to speak to you though any means, TV, radio show, friends, family and more. It is up to all of us to tune our senses into what God is trying to tell us, because “Burning Bush Moments” come in life on a regular basis-while they can show up in many forms-one critical thing that I can guarantee you, they may not always make life easier, but they will always make life more meaningful. Curbing Chicago Violence Project Editorial (Part One)

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016
While Gun violence affects society in many ways, including higher medical costs, reductions in quality of life because of fear of gun violence and stresses on the criminal justice system. The United States has the highest rate of gun-related injuries among developed countries, as well as the highest rate of gun ownership. Psychologists and other public health scientists are working to develop effective methods to reduce gun violence, but political opposition has created barriers to government support for  research.
images
Chicago has been plagued with violence in April 2016 alone there were 36 Murders

However, when curbing Chicago violence according to our partners who agree that all homicides-all murders represent a degree of human suffering – direct and indirect – that cannot be ignored. Attention must be paid to each life lost, not merely a selected but-our goal is to tell the story of every murder in the city, so that together we might fight the tendency to view homicides as just another rising or falling number, like mortgage rates or batting averages but the human story of tragic human lives lost, that adds weight down hard on an already struggling community.

In the days ahead it is the intent of http://www.oneworld01.com to help bring a sharp focus to the growing homicide level in Chicago, IL  it is our attention that if we can’t make the killing stop-we want to bring justice to the families, when that doesn’t work we want to help with the healing process. Also if the gun violence level in Chicago can come down then we can replicate the steps anywhere in the world.

There were 36 murders this past April, one more than in April 2015, the Chicago Police Department said this past Sunday. In the first four months of 2016, there have been 175 murders—51 in January, 43 in February, 45 in March and 36 in April, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The final homicide of the month was a man killed he got into a shootout with a teenager Saturday afternoon in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.
WRAB

Over the next few weeks Freedom First International (We Rise Above Bullets) , The Violence Interrupters in partnership with the Guilty in Innocence Project other community groups-will begin serious conversations and initiatives around Chicago and Northwest Indiana on how to “stop the gun violence in Chicagoland” Please advise via inbox or comments section if you like to join this dialog or facilitate. Put the guns down Chicago!

Local Activist to hold Press Conference Friday 04/14 at the Chicago Police Headquarters

04/14/2016

Chicago, Illinois

On This Friday April 15, 2016 at 10:30 am-The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Violence Interrupters along with Community Activist will conduct a Press Conference at the Main Chicago Police Station calling for the local community to come together as they seek to blast the Chicago Police Department about recent issues with regard to the fight to receive “Balanced Justice for the Community.”  One important agenda item for discussion is to address their concerns about the “political nature” of the placement of new Police Chief.

The president of the Chicago Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Gregg L. Greer said, “Chicago police have a history of abuse and that to date they continue to show a lack of leadership.” The recently released police accountability task force report on the death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald has only brought a harsh new light on an old problem. The Group believes department’s own data validates the “widely held belief the police have no regard for the sanctity of life when it comes to people of color.”-Also According to Lori Lightfoot-Chair of the Police Accountability Task Force.

Data shows-Between 2008 and 2015, 74 percent of people in Chicago shot or killed by the cops were black. Seventy-six percent of the time police used tasers, they used them on black people.

For their effort, they (group) with also announce multiple initiatives to challenge the negative culture of the Chicago Police Department, including what one of the Organizers  CEO of Violence Interrupters, Tio Hardiman calls a renewed call for the Department of Justice to investigate the Chicago Police Department.

On the Road to the United Nations: The Andrew Joseph Story

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

ON November 3, 2015_The United Nations will host a historical special  event called “Confronting the Silence: Perspectives and Dialogue on Structural Racism against People of African Descent Worldwide. ” Present including the Keynote Speaker Harry Belafonte amongst the list of invited special guest by organizers will be the family of Andrew Joseph. While the case of Joseph at this point is not widely known in American Circles the case definitely should be and will be highlighted as one of the most infamous cases of Police brutality that exist.

Andrew Joseph Pictures

The Joseph’s moved from New Orleans to Riverview in 2006, “hoping for a better life” after Hurricane Katrina. They are healthcare professionals and both of their children, Andrew and their 10-year-old daughter, were star students, they said. Andrew was an honor student at St. Stephen Catholic School in Riverview and a player on the Brandon Ravens youth football team, his parents said. Andrew had just been accepted to Tampa Catholic High School. His whole name was Andrew Joseph, III he was killed at 14 years old in Tampa, FL on Feb 7, 2014.

Andrew attended a Hillsborough County School Districts event named “Student Day” at the Florida State Fairgrounds the Hillsborough County. That day chaos at the fair came during an apparent underground tradition called “wilding,” which deputies at the time said usually occurs on Student Day, when Hillsborough County students are admitted to the event for free. Law enforcement officials said most of the young people who typically participate in the melee are black and that the behavior has ties in gang membership.

_

In Andrews case sheriff deputies detained (arrested) him, stripped him, photographed him and loaded him into a sheriff patty wagon, transported him, then abandoned him to a dark road, Later that night, Joseph got a call from the neighbor saying the fair had been shut down and that she couldn’t find Andrew. Tragically the family would learn that the child was abandoned by the police to a dark road facing the I-4 interstate, where he(Andrew) was killed after being stuck by an oncoming SUV.

_

This  section of Interstate-four known to locals as the “Dead Zone.” This short span of asphalt, in Seminole county, at the south end of the interstate bridge across the St. Johns River, has become known for its high number of traffic accidents. Depending on sources, there have been an estimated 1,048 to 1,740 car crashes at this location since the highway was opened in 1963 with a significant number involving fatalities. According to reports in 1995, there were 44 accidents which injured 65 motorists.

I4

Sadly, Andrew Joseph, III a student and resident of Hillsborough County was offered no protection, no safety and no security and the ultimate fault lies on the two sheriff deputies who released Andrew, a move that was no way near what their protocols dictate. Still no actions or reprimands for the deputies who put hands on this child have been reported in the death of child in the custodial care of the sheriff department. In Hillsborough County there has not been a whisper.

_

According to a recent interview from the Tampa Bay Times- Sheriff’s office spokesman Larry McKinnon said the sheriff’s office doesn’t comment on pending lawsuits.“We’ll take all the facts of their lawsuit and review them and then deal with them appropriately in the courts,” McKinnon said.

Chuck Pesano, executive director of the Florida State Fair Authority, also said he could not comment on pending litigation.

_

“This was a really good kid,” said Barry Cohen, the family’s attorney. “This wasn’t some thug.”  After Andrew was killed, authorities and the media painted him to look like a gang member who was committing violence at the fair, Joseph said. He said people assumed Andrew was a “throwaway kid” with irresponsible parents who didn’t care.

The real issue of this case is why was our kid illegally detained, illegally transported and abandoned without notification to anybody?” Andrew Father-Joseph explained. “Those are the real facts of this case that have not even been addressed by anybody involved.”

Who’s burning Black Churches-What a Cowardly Act!

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

Church-fire-1

Most people are questioning why, black churches are burning? As The Atlantic pointed out in a recent article on the subject, there’s a long history of terrorism against black churches in America, one that begins in the era of slavery and continues up through Reconstruction, the civil-rights era, and into the 1990s.

There has been a recent flurry of black churches burning since October 8 (In the last 20 days) all within a few miles of each other around St. Louis. Five fires have been at predominantly black churches, while the sixth was at a mixed denomination church. Unlike the last wave of black church fires this summer in which weather played a role in some of the fires, these all appear to be the work of arsonists. Each fire has been set at the door, and while most have done minimal damage—one pastor called them “amateur hour” arsons—one nearly destroyed a building. The lack of media coverage about these fires is highly-noticeable, given the media’s hyper-intensive coverage of rioters in Baltimore setting fire to a CVS earlier this year.

The FBI is investigating the multiple fires as possible acts of hate crimes, but to date no arrests have been made, they (FBI) are waiting for more facts to come to light before drawing any conclusions about what happened and beyond that they warn communities  “to move with caution.” (See statistics below)

FT_15_07_23_churchFires

Federal investigators have said they have so far found no links among the fires at the predominantly black churches across the South, and currently none have been labeled hate crimes. Action against black churches is prevalent throughout the south, and in northern states minor reports have come to light but it exists.

Regardless of the investigation’s outcome, racism and KKK activity remain a fact of life in the United States. The last known stream of about 670 arsons, bombings or attempted bombings at mostly African-American churches was in the 1990s.

Tamir Rice Family along with National/Local Activist to hold Press Conference-Friday 10/16 at the Cleveland Justice Center

10/14/2015

CLEVELAND, Ohio

On This Friday October 16, 2015 at 12:00 noon-The Tamir Rice Family including Samaria Rice along with Community Activist will conduct a Press Conference at the Justice Center calling for the local/national community to come together as they seek to educate the community about recent issues with regard to their fight to receive “Justice For Tamir.”  Along those attending this special meeting will be many supporters and local/ national civil rights leadership. One important agenda item for discussion is to address community concerns with their viewpoint about the “political nature” of the newly unearthed Cleveland Head Prosecutor-Tim McGinty’s authorized report about deadly police shootings made by the two experts who defended an Ohio officer’s killing of Tamir Rice.
>
For their effort, they (group) also-wants to address the community members growing concerns, as they believe-This report has intensified criticisms of prosecutor for selecting a premature (one-sided) review of the 12-year-old’s death. One “alleged” expert appeared to publicly cast doubt on whether the officer who killed Rice was at fault even before he was commissioned to write a report on the case, The other had her interpretation of a key US supreme court ruling on police shootings rejected by the Justice Department as too generous to officers.
>

I believe that in order for Cleveland to make sustainable change within its police department, and to improve trust within this community police officers that violate police protocol and procedures must be held accountable for their actions in a court of law.

We have remained diligent in our call for an arrest and indictment of officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback; We Still Stand Firm In This Belief.”

Rebuttal-Experts say Police shooting of Tamir Rice “Justified” Not So!

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

Yesterday, on October 10, 2015 The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office released a report to national media outlets with suggestions from two experts-Retired Virginia FBI agent Kimberly Crawford and Denver-area District Attorney S. Lamar Sims. According to the report -both are considered specialist in the use of force by police- who concluded that the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice by a Cleveland officer was “tragic” and “heartbreaking,” but reasonably “justified,” given that the officer believed the boy to be armed.The specialist claimed-there can be no doubt that Rice’s death was tragic and, indeed, when one considers his age, heartbreaking “However, I conclude that Officer Loehmann’s belief that Rice posed a threat of serious physical harm or death was objectively reasonable as was his response to that perceived threat.” ,” Sims wrote in a 52-page analysis.

What is problematic and troubling in this report is-As reported they (specialist) only examined the constitutionality of Loehmann’s decision to open fire on the boy during their two-second encounter. I along with many others who have followed this case closely believe that if the alleged experts opinion was more fair (balanced)-then with their report they should have considered the following viewpoints:

  •  Either or both Retired Virginia FBI agent Kimberly Crawford and Denver-area District Attorney S. Lamar Sims, national experts on police use-of-force issues, each should have also included details as to whether Loehmann or his partner Frank Garmback violated Ohio Laws, made tactical mistakes or broke with department policy in the moments leading up to the shooting.
  • The approach placed Loehmann “in a position of great peril” just feet from a potential gunman and with no cover, Sims wrote. Crawford acknowledged in her report that there were questions as to what, if any, commands Loehmann gave Tamir as the officers approached him. The question that is of utmost importance is- If the officers actions caused the downward progression of events that lead to Tamir’s shooting and ultimately his death-when presented all circumstances-then would it reasonable to conclude that the officers actions in this case were unjustified.
  • Another question that must be asked is whether the officer’s actions with regards to what they do when in uniform is focused on their obligation to their “sworn” mission to improving public safety and the fulfillment of public service. To further, illustrate this point-let’s examine another critical question  1) Police said that Rice then reached into his waistband and pulled out the toy gun, and was then shot and killed by Officer Timothy Loehmann. The video shows that Rice did not pull out the toy gun. In the video, Rice is using both hands to hold his shirt up and expose the pellet gun to view just before he falls to the ground.
  • Remember-all this direction was apparently  given, to Tamir Rice in the two seconds before his shooting: this means that, 1) police would have rolled up on the  recreation park gazebo 2)  rolled down the window  3) Loehmann then jumps out of the car and immediately gives three orders to drop the alleged gun three times. 4) Loehmann then jumps out of the car and immediately shoots Rice from a distance of less than 10 feet (3.0 m). This all would have had to happen in 2 seconds at superhuman speed! Not very realistic!

The Rice family and Clevelanders have always said that they want the officers who rushed upon and killed 12-year-old Tamir held accountable. The family now believes that the prosecutor’s office has been on an 11-month quest to avoid providing that accountability. Any presentation to a grand jury—without the prosecutor advocating for Tamir—is a charade. To get so-called experts to assist in the whitewash—when the world has the video of what happened—is all the more alarming.
These supposed “experts”—all pro-police—dodge the simple fact that the officers rushed Tamir and shot him immediately without assessing the situation in the least. Reasonable jurors could find that conduct unreasonable. But they will never get the chance because the prosecutor is working diligently to ensure that there is no indictment and no accountability. Who will speak for Tamir before the grand jury? Not the prosecutor, apparently.”

Subodh Chandra Attorney for Tamir Rice Family

gazebo
Actual Picture of Tamir-just prior to the shooting. Associated Press

My last question is this a way of the Prosecutor co-signing with the Police Officers defense team to direct our minds toward this innocent 12 year olds justifiable homicide. Ultimately the one question that we must all ask is “who are you going to believe”  Are we allowing these “alleged”  experts to fuel a false narrative-that places these officers in a position to say the shooting of Tamir was justified, or can we as members of the public ask more of these officials including the Prosecutor of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty-who has suspiciously released alleged expert testimony prior to this case going to a grand jury? without reason!“We would hope that the community can come together and find every possible way to address the serious community violence, that we are now facing,”

We would ask that everyone possible look at this disturbing video and demand logical answers, as to why? Why did you shoot an innocent child who was playing in a park with a toy gun! Is report is propaganda, after reviewing the video, I would have to say, yes definitely!

Gregg L Greer, Advocate Lead-Tamir Rice Family

For Tamir Rice’s life- we have  to change our condition and correct our broken system-and  it has to happen, now not later!  No more lies!

Someday We’ll All Be Free” is a 1973 song by Donny Hathaway from the album Extension of a Man. The song was released as the flipside to the single “Love, Love, Love”. Though the song was only released as an uncharted A-side, it is considered an R&B standard, having been covered by many artists over the years.

The lyrics were written by Edward Howard, for and about the mental pain that Donny Hathaway was experiencing at the time. Edward Howard said:

“What was going through my mind at the time was Donny, because Donny was a very troubled person. I hoped that at some point he would be released from all that he was going through. There was nothing I could do but write something that might be encouraging for him.”

Years later, the song began to be interpreted as being written about black rights, primarily due to Spike Lee featuring it at the end of his biographical film Malcolm X. However, as Howard said:

“A lot of black people have taken the song for some sort of anthem. That’s fine. I didn’t write it for that, though. It doesn’t have that significance for me. I take it with a grain of salt. I’m glad it has some significance.”

donny-hathaway

Donny Hathaway himself particularly loved the song and as Eulalah Hathaway stated:

“He loved that song. Donny literally sat in the studio and cried when he heard the playback of his final mix. It’s pretty special when an artist can create something that wipes them out.”

Although the song did not chart, the B-side of the single, “Love, Love Love” peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the R&B charts

Six years later, Hathaway’s life ended when was found lifeless on the sidewalk below the window of his 15th-floor room in New York’s Essex House hotel. It was reported that he had jumped from his balcony. The glass had been neatly removed from the window and there were no signs of struggle, leading investigators to rule that Hathaway’s death was a suicide. A Brilliant Life that we honor to this day. Donny, yes-It is true, “Someday we’ll all be free.”

3 reasons why, we must fire Chicago PD Police Superintendent McCarthy as one measure toward preventing Chicago Violence

(Chris Walker/Chicago Tribune) -met-NATO-protest-0521 B582116402z.1 ….OUTSIDE TRIBUNE CO.- NO MAGS, NO SALES, NO INTERNET, NO TV, CHICAGO OUT, NO DIGITAL MANIPULATION…

Yes, it is true that violence in American cities is troubling and perplexing. Even as homicide rates have declined across the country — in some places, like New York, by a remarkable amount — gunplay continues to plague economically struggling minority communities. In Chicago – disturbingly, For almost 25 years, murder has been the leading cause of death among African-American men between the ages of 15 and 34, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

_

It is equally true and disturbing, that in Chicago, the term “police brutality” was  inextricably linked to former Cmdr. Jon Burge and his “Sadistic,” South Side homicide squad, which imposed extreme measures, including torture, to extract false confessions from dozens of suspects during the Eighties and Nineties. But even after the Burge era Chicago struggles to combat community violence that is currently experiencing.

.

So far this year, at least 2,300 people have been shot in Chicago, about 400 more than during the same period last year, according to a Tribune analysis. Through Sunday, homicides have risen to 359, up 21 percent from 296 a year earlier, according to preliminary data from Chicago Police.

.

Chicago has been plagued with violence,
Chicago has been plagued with violence,

What is  also very clear is the fact that as most Chicago locals know- law enforcement has done little to noting to disrupt a street code that allows, if not encourages, the settling of squabbles with deadly force, and at least temporarily muffling any hostilities would even be a worthy goal. Currently the most effective response from the Leadership at the CPD is few occasions when they have tried to influence behavior by introducing a  failed curricula like antidrug and safe- campaigns.

_

Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn wrote an editorial in which he argued that, based on murders by population, Chicago isn’t actually all that violent a city. And he’s sort of right. Chicago can be thought of as a bunch of different cities, and some of them are quite safe. Unfortunately, some of them aren’t And a lot of effort goes into making sure that the folks who have to live in the less safe parts of Chicago don’t trouble the sleep of the folks in the safe areas.

041315_McCarthy

Gary McCarthy was hired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to take over the Chicago Police Department shortly after Emanuel’s election in early 2011. The number of crimes and murders in Chicago has plummeted under his tenure (with murders declining from 525 in 2011 to 505 in 2012 to 415 in 2013).

***WHY***

#1-McCarthy and Leadership tried to deceive the public by presenting “Fake,” Statistics to appear Effective.

Chicago-city-flag-patch

In an investigative article by Chicago Magazine reporters David Bernstein and Noah Isackson, it was asserted that the decline was in part due to the unjustified re-categorization of murders as undetermined and then if it is later determined to be a murder, tallying the total to the prior years’ statistics. McCarthy on defensive denied these fact, as “patently false.”  his decision to stop publishing annual reports in 2012. The 2011 report was completed and he decided not to release it.

***But a***

Fall 2012 audit by the Chicago Inspector General determined that the Chicago Police Department had under counted aggravated assault and aggravated battery victims by 25% percent by not following state guidelines by counting each incident rather than each victim.

CPR_DirectiveStar

#2-As the Chicago Tribune noted on June 8, the city already has surpassed 1,000 shootings this year, sooner than last year or the year before. In other words, violence is getting worse. When a  flurry of gun violence comes as Chicago has experienced a 21% surge in homicides and a 20% increase in non-fatal shooting incidents so far in 2015, according to Chicago Police Department data. The latest violence all occurred on the city’s South and West sides, which historically have endured the vast majority violence in the city.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel expressed outrage on Tuesday, blaming the rise in violence on too many guns on the streets of Chicago and weak gun laws

***But a***

Homicides and shooting are indicative of a larger crime trend – we don’t know anyone who, when reasonably informed, thinks that crime is actually down. They are aware of downgrading crime, long response times, impossible waits for Officers or excessive hold times for 3-1-1.

I agree with the calls to relieve Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy
I agree with the calls to relieve Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

#3. McCarthy has a log history of abuse of Authority which leaves to question his choice as a Commander.

Gary McCarthy was found “guilty” in March 2006 over an traffic altercation he had in 2005 with two New Jersey police officers. A traffic court judge ruled that Gary McCarthy had blocked vehicular traffic with his police-issued car while he and his wife confronted two plainclothes members of the Palisades Interstate Police at a gas station along the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The officers in question had just issued a summons to McCarthy’s 19-year-old daughter, who was driving another car and became verbally confrontational toward the two police officers whom in essence were enforcing the law. When Gary McCarthy had arrived on scene he was clearly irate and violently confrontational and had to be grabbed by the two police officers whom also confiscated McCarthy’s firearm and handcuffed him as well as restrained his wife when she attempted to grab the gun from the two police officers.

***But a***

The judge fined McCarthy $200 for blocking traffic.

It’s whether you have values as a community, Chicago Leadership and especially officials have to demand more of themselves, and be a “damn Leader.”

In Chicago, for too long you’ve proudly taken checks and we’ve paid for your services. But, when it comes to service my question is;  have you truly worked toward resolution of the community violence that has taken s stronghold on our community?

My next question is; how much better are you then the criminals or provocateurs who are a direct part of Chicago’s mayhem. You’ve voted to help the community but you want more sworn officers when you haven’t demanded more responsibility from your current police officers, that leads to results that we need. I so long for the day when we can truly take own- nership of this violence. Yes we’ve made mistakes, but correct them already! People are dying! Donald Trump we need to channel you now and tell McCarthy “YOU”RE SO FIRED.”

Will history be kind to Barack Obama’s Legacy as a Black President, many say no!

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

History was changed-on election night November 4th, 2008, when a more youthful Barack Obama walked out to as the newly elected American President with his wife and young daughters by his side, every step thereafter seemed by many to represent a great leap of racial progress by citizens of the United States. I  agree with British historian Arnold Toynbee-who warned historians against trying to understand the present—let alone imagining what historians would say about current events in the future.

BK208

There are those who say, President Obama did not do enough to elevate or even fight for the rights of African-American people, they would suggest the antagonism of Obama’s own blackness was not provoked; still others, may suggest- the way in which his racial self-consciousness constrained him, not as to openly advocate in an effort to avoid showing any resemblance of outright favoritism toward his own race. In an article for NYmagzone.com when 53 Historians weighted in on the Presidency of Barack Obama (link Below) it was suggested that we will care a great deal less about his race generations from now — just as John F. Kennedy’s Catholicism hardly matters to current students of history.

If the “Legacy,” of Barack as President is to be challenged, then should we consider questions about Barack Obama’s sojourn in Kenya, the land of his father. In Kenya, where President Obama is saluted as an absolute “Hero,”-coming after un-numbered African generations suffer the agonies of enforced servitude and historical exile, a favored native son, blood of the land, who returns in triumph to claim the mantle of “world leader and heroic figure.” Without a doubt, White House spin doctors would love to have this story told. Yet notwithstanding the tired cynicism of the political age and the familiarity of Obama’s much-told personal journey, this remarkable reversal of fortunes, briefly glimpsed and savored, remains genuinely uplifting.(photoshoped Kenyan version of President Obama source unknown, below)

Barack with Braids (photoshoped) source unknown

In post 2012 America, So great has been the increase in political power that the black voter turnout rate surpassed that of whites with the 2012 presidential race, and the number of black elected officials has risen sevenfold. But while school segregation and workplace discrimination have declined, too many African-Americans go home to segregated, often impoverished neighborhoods. How much can we attribute the overwhelming number of political seats as to being inspired  by this President.

According to recent polls-The black poverty rate has dropped from more than 40% in the 1960s to about 27% today; child poverty similarly has dipped from 67% to about 40%. Those numbers still are glaring, however. And the gap in overall wealth is more than 5-to-1 between whites and blacks: The average white household had nearly $800,000 in assets in 2011, compared with $154,000 for blacks.

barack-obama-fiscal-cliff
Many feel that President Obama, could have been significantly instrumental in making progress on civil rights an area which has surprisingly has been much slower. Yes, it is true that today-America has many post civil rights issues to openly deal, examples being the flurry of Police Brutality issues: Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Andrew Joseph, Freddie Gray, Mike Brown and the list goes on. We may never understand the dynamics that have been at the heart of America’s seemingly non-existent policies with Civil Rights, and why Present Obama did not do more?

In closing if history is to be kind  President Obama, we must consider the fact that a person of color who became the President of the United States of America has inspired many, many children and others around the world who never really believed that  they could achieve this feat, and they are now saying, “one day I’ll be President of the United States of America.” that alone has challenged the hearts of the detractors who say, “President Obama did not do enough for African-Americans.” In addition we must agree with another great President-John F. Kennedy who knew the challenge wasn’t just passing laws, but changing hearts and minds. “Law alone cannot make men see right,” he said. “We are confronted primarily with a moral issue.” We have to inspire people so change is in their hearts (a hard pressed task), I believe President Obama has accomplished this task-so in this respect-History will show President Barack Obama favor.

Tamir Rice’s Family asks for aggravated murder charge against Cleveland Officer Timothy Loehmann-Statement

09/14/2015

I along with a growing number of people in communities around the country truly believe Tamir’s life was taken due to the careless-cold hearted actions of two individuals. We also believe it was truly bad police work,- many times citizen shootings have shown the officers seem likely to follow a “shoot first, ask questions later” strategy and these officers are rarely investigated and brought to justice. Tamir was only 12 years old when the Police Officer shot him- We are now calling for any/every good hearted human being to assist us in our effort to hold  these officers to account for their wrong doing.

We believe the officers seem to have ignored the state’s most fundamental duties which police officers, as agents of the state, must comply with- that is carrying out their law enforcement duty, to protect life!

In addition, we agree with the recent U.S. Department of Justice report that found the Cleveland Police Department to have a “pattern or practice of unreasonable and unnecessary use of force,” and has repeatedly violated the civil rights of local residents, and routinely fails to adequately investigate law enforcement for wrongdoing has added daily to the growing level of discontent.”

With that being said, “I along with my advocacy team stand with the effort for aggravated murder charges against Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehmann and I will support any effort that will brings an end to police abuse of citizens.” Join us-In the days ahead as we intentionally raise our efforts in our fight for Tamir.

The September 11 coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001 was “A date which will live in infamy.” The attacks widely shown , on television and newspapers published shocking and sad images from the most tragic day in history, many were deemed too awful, too harsh for the public to face. Nevertheless the public was entitled to see the tragic information, that absorbed the airwaves.

Definitely, testimonies of pictures of the estimated 200 people who plunged to their death from the Twin Towers. Trapped, with nowhere to go, was a heartbreaking way to die as thousands watched, from the streets of New York, to the homes of those watching on television.
Falling

Falling Man is a photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Richard Drew of a man falling from the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:41:15 a.m. during the September 11 attacks in New York City.
This one photo, possibly the most controversial of all: the Falling Man was worth mention, due to the fact that attempts made to formally identify the man, did prove successful.  Falling Man, was Jonathan Briley (pictured below)  a 43-year-old employee of Windows on the World, the restaurant on the 106th floor of the North Tower
Witnesses know Briley as a light-skinned black man, with a moustache, goatee and short hair. His co-workers believe the Falling Man is him. Michael Lomonaco, the Head Chef at Windows on the World, also suggested that the man was Briley.
jonathanHis brother, Timothy, who was tasked to identify his brother, knew him by his shoes; black high-tops, similar to those pictured. According to Jonathan’s sister, Gwendolyn, he had asthma and the billowing smoke would have made it hard for him to breathe, which may have prompted the jump to his premature death.Sadly, Biley was one of the many lives lost as Statistics show 2,977 people died in the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil.
Jonathan, imbued with the spirit of humility, never failed to look for an opportunity to be of service. He used his skills as an Audio Engineer in churches up and down the east coast. The quiet, peaceful spirit that resided in his 6’5 ½” frame was a beacon of light and warmth that was felt by everyone who came in contact with him. His sense of humor attested to the joy of his spirit. His patience was a source of strength to everyone he met. Jonathan’s life blessed God because of the fruits of The Holy Spirit.
People, buildings and planes and debris fell from the sky. Terrified strangers became known friends as Americans came together on one day that changed the nation and the world as we knew it- forever. Truly Heartbreaking and still unbelievable 14 years later. May they all rest in peace.

This Labor Day lets honor the American Slaves who died and suffered to build America

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner
 LaborDay

Today we honor, the lost lives and the commitment of the American Slaves  who had to endured- The Middle Passage and other sea routes that took the enslaved Africans away from their homeland. Many had never seen the sea before, let alone been on a ship. They had no knowledge of where they were going or what awaited them there.slaveship

The slaves were packed below the decks of the ship for a usual six to eight weeks. The men, women, and children were usually shackled together in pairs using leg irons, or shackles. Some leg irons, along the way. People were packed so close that they could not get to the toilet buckets, and so lay in their own filth. Seasickness, heat and lack of air all contributed to the terrible smell. These conditions also encouraged disease, particularly fever and the ‘bloody flux’ or gastroenteritis. Many did not survive, and were tossed out to the cold sea, without regard to proper ceremony of life-much less treated like unwanted trash.

Though the Union victory freed the nation’s 4 million slaves, the legacy of slavery continues to influence American history, from the tumultuous years of Reconstruction (1865-77) to the civil rights movement that emerged in the 1960s, up until the movement for Black Lives that exist today. Many understand almost 200 years-after emancipation proclamation, America still has not come to grips with its’ endorsement of the Slave trade.

When Slavery in America began-the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of such lucrative crops as tobacco. Afterward Slavery was practiced throughout the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries, and African-American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. The invention of the cotton gin in 1793 solidified the central importance of slavery to the South’s economy. By the mid-19th century, America’s westward expansion, along with a growing abolition movement in the North, would provoke a great debate over slavery that would tear the nation apart in the bloody American Civil War (1861-65).
slave2

While slaves in the antebellum South constituted about one-third of the southern population. Most slaves lived on large farms or small plantations; many masters owned less than 50 slaves. The majority of the workload was constituted by Slave labor. The average losses were between 10 and 20%, through sickness, suicide and even murder at the hands of the slave Masters. 10% means over 1,000,000 Africans died on board the ships, 20% represents over 2,000,000 deaths including children. The American slave trade caused 5 million deaths “or more.” … historical researchers say it’s impossible to know the overall death toll caused by slavery in America.

So as a nation the (USA) has to apologize for slavery, and honor the commitment that African Slaves and their African American descendants have made to build the America’s, and the Caribbean.

Southern Lives Matter_Alabama Rally turns out to be a “DUD” with no attendees!

The a group of 30 Angry Pro Confederate Flag Supporters/Protestors sparked a controversial debate when the crowd showed up for a rally this past Friday August 28, 2015 at the Alabama Capitol State House in favor of the flag and carrying ‘Southern Lives Matter’ posters to mock the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. . Many were singing “Dixie,” some were taking selfies.  The rally was organized primarily to bring attention to legislators and all regarding the widespread support and approval for keeping the current confederate state flags in light of recent demonstrations calling for removal.
pro-confederate-flag
Another aim was for attendees to have an opportunity to address the Southern Folks message of Southern Nationalism and secession, as well as several other topics. Initially the rally was well received by the majority of over 300 demonstrators via Facebook and many of them expressed interest in exploring the merits of “Southern Nationalism,” but only 30 attended on the day of the rally. A few young black bystanders decided on an attempt to explain to the delusional men in Confederate uniforms that the war had ended, only to have the protesters tell them “Go back to where you came from.” Then stating to the onlookers  “If you don’t accept history behind flag, find a new country.”
Burn your Own
Standing at the bottom of the Capitol’s steps, where 50 years ago Martin Luther King Jr. led a march for civil rights, Tim Steadman said it wasn’t right to remove the flags.  “Right now, this past week with everything that is going on, I feel very much like the Jews must have felt in the beginning of the Nazi Germany takeover,” he said. “I mean I do feel that way, like there is a concerted effort to wipe people like me out, to wipe out my heritage and to erase the truths of history.”  A statement from the groups facebook page says;
We are spreading the news across America about this tragic and illegal action of hate toward our Southern family. Like our page to get up to date news and announcements about this fight for freedom. Have a news story we should tell? Message us! Tell America and be heard!

The two groups briefly discussed heritage and racism while Confederate flag supporters proudly waved their flags, before ending the conversation. No arrest were made by Capitol Police, the rally ended two hours short of it’s original goal-due to low turnout.

Cleveland City Council pass a questionable possibly “unconstitutional” protesting ordinance.

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

CLEVELAND, OH— Freedom First International, The ACLU (Ohio), and a growing list of civil rights organizations are questioning  a recent Cleveland City Council’s action repealing and replacing the ordinance regulating demonstrations without any public hearings. The hastily passed legislation updating the City of Cleveland’s permitting process violates protesters’ rights of free speech and assembly. In other communities courts have required conditional use ordinances to set forth “definite specifications in standards” in order to constitute a valid conditional regulation.

protesting

The new ordinance applies to parades and protests on city streets, parks, malls and other public spaces. According to the local ACLU “There are several “First Amendment” red flags in the revised ordinance.”

  • The failure to provide the number of people that would constitute a parade could result in absurd and potentially unconstitutional outcomes. For example, two people who choose to march through a park could be considered a parade and be required to obtain a permit.

  • A city official might subjectively deny a parade permit application if it was determined that the parade or demonstration is “dangerous,” requires a high number of police officers, or otherwise places a burden on city resources.

  • The ordinance could prohibit the spontaneous gathering of individuals to meet and peaceably demonstrate in parks or other public places.

It also is troubling that the city council failed to allow the community to comment  and engage on the proposed legislation, which would have afforded the opportunity for any issues to be discussed and ironed out.”

The real tests of its constitutionality are awaiting challenge, both in the legislation and in the process city hall establishes. In the event the ordinance condition is found to be arbitrary, the normal procedure would be for the  local court to remand the ordinance back to the governing body for further consideration as to whether any modifications to the ordinance are necessary in order to permit the legislative body to take its action.

Obviously, this has an enormous potential to create significant delay. It also provides an issue for an objecting party to raise to both delay and potentially challenge a conditional use ordinance through subsequent legislative review with hope a arbitration will end this unnecessary policy.

Killing of John Crawford III is one of the historic miscarriages of justice that exist in America todate!

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner
August 5, 2015 will be the one year anniversary of -The Shooting of John Crawford III. which is one of the historic miscarriages of justice that exist in America to date and according to witnesses, and there is no conceivable reason that the officers should have not been indicted.

John_Crawford_III

On August 5 2014, police shot and killed John Crawford III (July 29, 1992 – August 5, 2014) at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, near Dayton, Ohio, after receiving a 911 call that falsely indicated he was waving a real firearm at people. It turned out Crawford was carrying a toy gun (from inside the store’s sporting goods section) ,which looked like an assault rifle.  Crawford at 22-years-old was shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams.
Offier Sean Williams shot John Crawford due to false 911 call

_
The shooting was captured by the store’s security video camera. Video showed Crawford talking on his cell-phone while holding the BB/pellet air rifle, when he was killed. According to Crawford’s mother, and others who witnessed to the footage the video shows the officers fired immediately without giving any verbal commands and without giving Crawford any time to drop the toy even if he had heard them. The Lying 911 caller Ritchie was questioned, but in a very uncritical, non-aggressive manner. Ronald Tyler Ritchie’s (pictured, below) false information, given during that emergency call – by most estimations – led to the death of not only John Crawford, but also another shopper who died of a heart attack.  After Officer Sean Williams opened fire in the store. 37-year-old  Angela Williams was a homicide. Angela Williams, no relation to Officer Williams, death is officially listed as homicide due to the  circumstances inside of the Beavercreek Walmart on August 5th.According William Harden, the Greene County Coroner’s Office chief investigator: “If she had been walking around normally and just collapsed, that would be a natural death.”

Ritchie acknowledged to the detective that nothing he said on the phone was true.

_

One World Media (TM) We should note both officers statements were inconsistent.

Walmart surveillance footage was later released to the public, but not before a grand jury decided not to indict Williams on criminal charges. The video showed that Crawford – who was still on his phone – was shot from the side while apparently moving to run away from the advancing armed officers.  Footage synced by the FBI with a recording of the 911 call indicated that Williams shot Crawford about one second after he and Darkow rounded a corner into the pet products aisle, where Crawford had been standing for five minutes.

Williams shot Crawford about one second after he and Darkow rounded a corner into the pet products aisle, where Crawford had been standing for five minutes.
Williams shot Crawford about one second after he and Darkow rounded a corner into the pet products aisle, where Crawford had been standing for five minutes.
Police then interrogated Crawford’s girlfriend for more than 90 minutes before telling her Crawford was dead, the Guardian’s Jon Swaine reported: (pictured, below)

Tasha Thomas was reduced to swearing on the lives of her relatives that John Crawford III had not been carrying a firearm when they entered the Walmart in Beavercreek, near Dayton, to buy crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars on the evening of 5 August.

Tasha-Thomas-interrogation
Tasha Thomas was reduced to swearing on the lives of her relatives that John Crawford III had not been carrying a firearm

“You lie to me and you might be on your way to jail,” detective Rodney Curd told Thomas, as she wept and repeatedly offered to take a lie-detector test. After more than an hour and a half of questioning and statement-taking, Curd finally told Thomas that Crawford, 22, had died.

One World Media (TM) Officers Cleared of criminal charges!

On Sept. 25, 2014 Officer Williams was cleared of criminal charges by a Greene County special grand jury of five men and four women. Neither Darkow nor the 911 caller were considered for charges. Answering one paragraph, Beavercreek attorneys wrote, defendants “have no knowledge of whether all police officers are trained to understand that many 911 callers provide inaccurate or otherwise unsubstantiated information, and are notoriously unreliable eye-witnesses.”

The special grand jury heard from 18 witnesses and then voted against potential charges of murder, reckless homicide and negligent homicide against Williams. At least seven “yes” votes were needed for a charge to be approved. Grand jury votes are not made public.

Following the shooting a grand jury decided not to indict any of the officers involved. The Justice Department is conducting its own investigation. Meanwhile, the officer who shot Crawford remains on desk duty.

Crawford’s mother believes that the surveillance tape shows the police lied in their account of events, and has spoken out against the killing at a “Justice for All” march. The family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Walmart and the Beavercreek police department.

One World Media (TM) Other Factors worth noting

  • Even among die-hard police supporters and apologists, few believed that John Crawford was to blame for being shot. Most pointed the finger at 911-caller Ronald Ritchie, but it was clear that in an open carry state, and in a store that sells both guns and BB-guns, there is nothing illegal, nor even particularly out of the ordinary about handling a replica firearm, taken from the very shelves of the store.
  • Ohio State Representative Alicia Reece has proposed a “John Crawford’s Law”, which would change the way toy guns look to prevent similar tragedies.
  • The family is seeking more than $75,000 in damages, citing the children Crawford left behind. Wal-Mart, the city of Beavercreek and Beavercreek Police Chief Dennis Evers are named in the lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The lawsuit also names the officer who shot Crawford, Sean Williams, and his partner on the scene, David Darkow.

tashathomasfakeaccident1

  • Tasha Thomas, who in a harsh interrogation was falsely accused of helping Crawford smuggle the gun into the store that  August, was killed in a bizarre high-speed car crash in Dayton on New Year’s Day, local media reported. (pictured left)
  • To date lead activist organizations and at least one big-name civil rights heavyweight has said many nice words to support John Crawford Jr, and his family on the ground fighting against Walmart and the Beavercreek Police Department to “Release the Tape,” but none  hardly ever once mobilized on the ground or the ground effort was lacking with the exception of a group of dedicated loyalist.  In the meantime Walmart alines with many of the big name activist pockets financially!

The Sandra Bland Incident-A total breakdown of law and order”

SB!
GOWBanner

The arrest of Sandra Bland may leave many questions and has left the masses confused once again. During the past two years many folks have marched in various cities, following grand jury decisions in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City that failed to indict police officers who killed citizens, a frequent sign that can be seen, carried by protesters, is: “Black lives matter. “Yes, in truth the case of Sandra Bland defiantly in spirit -highlights the true nature of the problem on the public streets of urban America. It is very likely that, as often alleged, while laws need to change for everyone-but blacks in urban cities are disproportionately stopped and harassed by police more often than whites or others. This, however, is not the full picture of the harassment and threats that occur on urban sidewalks-it goes much deeper.

But, singular as it may seem, there is no turning back from the fact that laws of our country are on a collision course with change. Our government has to determine all of the problems and flaws within the race oriented system and the criminal justice system problem they are confronted. To put it  more directly, no doubt-the criminal justice system issue is a serious problem in the United States!

Ms. Bland was an African-American from the Chicago area who had come to Texas for a job at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University, was arrested after she was stopped July 10, 2015 for failure to signal a lane change. This list doesn’t necessarily mean that the courts will find the officer coerced, forced or lied in the statement or anything else with his report about the incident. But if the courts rule that he did act out of policy, not only is the statement inadmissible, but so too is any evidence that the police obtain as the result of it. I’m hard pressed to find in most of the video, where the officer had the level of control that his training should have dictated.

MaximInLaw3

When the officer demanded loudly that Sandra Bland step out of her vehicle, Bland knew her rights and asked “Why am I being apprehended?” to which the officer simply replied, “I am giving you a lawful order” without articulating any reasonable suspicion of a crime. (Neither the stun gun nor the confrontation over the cigarette was mentioned in Trooper Encinia’s incident report according to police statement.) Why!!

It doesn’t matter whether an interrogation occurs in a jail, at the scene of a crime, on a busy downtown street, or the middle of an open field: If a person is in custody (deprived of his or her freedom of action in any significant way), the police must read the Miranda rights if they want to ask questions and use the answers as evidence at trial.

If someone is not in police custody, however, no Miranda warning is required and anything the person says can be used at trial. Police officers often avoid arresting people—and make it clear to them that they’re free to go—precisely so they don’t have to give the Miranda warning. Then they can arrest the suspect after getting the incriminating statement they wanted all along.

For more detail on these issues, see Miranda: The Meaning of ‘Custodial Interrogation.

Pre-Arrest Questioning

Do you have to respond to police questions if you haven’t been arrested? Generally, no. (You typically don’t have to answer even if you’re under arrest.) A police officer generally cannot arrest a person simply for failure to respond to questions. (There are, however, situations where you might have to provide information like identification.

Video: I also decided to add a laundry list of possible violations on the video.

The video showed the officer pulling Ms. Bland over and their encounter escalating into a physical altercation in which he threatened her with a stun gun.

  • “I will light you up,” the trooper said, pointing the stun gun at her.

  • The video also confirmed an account from the family’s lawyer that the confrontation between Ms. Bland and the trooper, Brian T. Encinia, escalated after she refused his order to put out a cigarette.

But this conflicts with Officer Encinia’s seeming  lies of omission in both his report and in his verbal recap to the Texas DPS dispatch.

  •  In fact, in frame 23:24 Officer Encinia claimed that he tried to de-escalate the situation when he encountered an unarmed woman with half of his body mass with a taser in hand.

Video: Minutes 23 through 24 the Officer produces a serious of incorrect statements that I subjectively one could conclude as lies.

Video: 25 though 34.05 video shows credible evidence of technical difficulties suggesting the possibility of editing or some undisclosed technical error combination

The audio sounds like a continuous stream of discussion between dispatch or phone and Officer Encinia, the video below shows the tow truck driver leaving his car multiple times without going back to the cab of his wrecker. The same vehicles can clearly be seen to pass multiple times. It is unknown at this time if the irregularities signal intentional editing, technical difficulties or a combination of both.  A lot can happen in 2 minutes.

Other Problematic areas with this story.

Jim Harrington, director of the Texas Civil Rights Project, speaks with Texas Standard about the footage of the arrest, point-by-point. Here’s a transcript of the conversation, edited for brevity and clarity:

The trooper asks, “You mind putting out your cigarette please?” And Ms. Bland says, “Well, I’m in my car – why do I have to put out my cigarette?” Does she have to put out her cigarette?

  • No, she doesn’t have to put out her cigarette. And you wonder why the officer is even bothering with that. This is part of his escalation of the whole event that unfolded, unfortunately.

SC

The next part: “Step out of the car.” Ms. Bland says, “You do not have the right.” He interrupts – “I do have the right, step out of the car or I will remove you.” Does he have the right, first, to order her to step out of the car? And second, to actually physically remove her from the car?

  • He does not have the right to say, get out of the car. He has to express some reason. ‘I need to search your car,’ or, whatever; he needs to give a reason. He can’t just say ‘get out of the car’ for a traffic offense.

Ms. Bland says, “I refuse to talk to you other than to identify myself.” Is she right or wrong.

  • She’s right. Unfortunately, officers don’t like it when you know the law. In this case, even if you are right, you are still in danger. And that’s what we see unfolding here.

The trooper says, “I am giving you a lawful order.” Now, is the lawful order to extinguish the cigarette, or to get out of the car, or neither.

  • Certainly, telling her to put out the cigarette was not a lawful order.

  • Just saying ‘Get out of the car,’ in and of itself, without an explanation, is not lawful. And you see him say that throughout the video without ever saying why [or] what’s .

  • It’s clear to me that he’s trying to assert authority that he probably does not have under the law, and he’s escalating the situation because he is upset. [He] doesn’t exercise the training that he needs to be exercising to de-escalate this situation.

“I’m gonna yank you out of here,” is what the trooper says. Can he physically “yank” her out of her vehicle?

  •  He can’t do that either, unless she’s posing a threat to his welfare and safety. What he should have done was just wait for backup, if he couldn’t de-escalate it himself. But you don’t just pull somebody out of the car, and point that taser in her face. What if it had gone off? She’d have permanent brain damage.

She says, “Dont touch me, I’m not under arrest.” Trooper says, “You are under arrest. She says, “Under arrest for what?” He then turns to his shoulder-mounted radio, and asks for another unit. Does he have an obligation as a law enforcement officer to tell her why she is under arrest?

  • Yes. He needs to – it’s not clear to her what’s going on. He needs to tell her, ‘You’re under arrest because …,’ but you can’t really tell her that.

  •  Because you can’t tell from the video that there’s any reason to have her under arrest.

She asserts her right to record this with her cell phone. That’s a right that has been clearly established. Is that true?

  •   She has a right to do that. But that’s another example where the officer perceives this as a challenge to his authority – and it further escalates the whole scenario.

When he says “get out of the car, or I will light you up,” he is apparently referring to the use of a taser. Is that a legitimate threat? Is that something that’s okay for officers to do in that situation?

No – here’s the situation where he is clearly violating her constitutional rights.

  • This is excessive force on the part of the officer – to take that taser and point it in her face and say, “I’m going to harm you.”

  • Taser is the last recourse to a gun. And if he can’t get her out, he can’t de-escalate it, he’s got to wait for another officer to come and talk through this.

Right now, the trooper has been placed on administrative duty. He’s not on leave, he’s still working for DPS. It’s our understanding that there is a violation of policy here – he should not have allowed it to escalate.

We are talking about a certain level of discretion that the state apparently entrusts with its troopers. Should officers have that much discretion.

He clearly exceeded that….

  • The discretion here is, how do you de-escalate the situation? He could have just given her the ticket and walked away.

  •  Just like that. But he had to go through this confrontation. Of course, there are questions of race that come up here. And the fact that this is an out-of-state car moving through the town – and we know in Texas that’s a pretty typical profiling event.

  • What bothers me a lot is that troopers are supposed to be the best-trained police officers we have in the state. This guy is clearly out of control – clearly shouldn’t be out on the streets dealing with people – [given] this level of escalation that he provokes.

7 year old Amari Brown who was gunned down in Chicago on July 4, 2015
7-year-old Amari Brown who was gunned down in Chicago on July 4, 2015

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

Two days ago I stood and prayed with the family of 7-year-old Amari Brown (pictured, above) who was killed by a cowardly act of aggression, that just hours before snuffed out this innocent child’s life.

When any city has eight killings in two days, including the death of a 7-year-old Amari Brown, something is seriously wrong with the system. As a long-term community advocate, and Civil Rights leader who oversees many of America’s most difficult civil rights cases, Including Tamir Rice, and others-I must say regretfully I’ve seen this many times before and I will not stand by and allow children to die!

Pastor Ira Acree, and I Rev. Gregg L Greer giving consoling grief for 7-year-old Amari Browns Family. On July 5, 2015-Outside of the family’s Chicago home.

The System Failed!

I agree with the calls to relieve Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy
Chicago Police Superintendent McCarthy

The system failed Amari, the Chicago Police Chief McCarthy said. but like Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Tamir Rice all were not victims of their seemingly racist killers alone. They were  victims of the lopsided school systems that failed them. They where victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are a victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill if they feel threatened in any way. The victimization extends to calls to relieve Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy of his duties, His tactics haven’t been the miracle cure for the city’s violence at all.

They are victims of a certain Moral blindnessWhich means every single black person in the eyes of a racist  is the sign of a terrible crime from their ugly past, a reminder that their life is a fraud, that they need to simply own up to their past and make it right. Instead of denying, shifting blame, or to lie, twisting the facts and make black people into these creatures that they look down on, laugh at and yet, oddly, fear. It is a failed attempt to be at “peace,” with themselves.

We Also Failed!

They are victims of us because we need more love in our communities! We need to love and accept our children unconditionally. Regardless of our child’s age, we have to instill feelings of acceptance and self-worth. Teach our children, by how you treat them, that they  are valuable and worthy of love. It doesn’t matter if you don’t agree with every choice or interest of your child.

Why are Christians Persecuted in the Church

Recently When Dylann Roof (pictured, below) allegedly opened fire at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina it was an act of terror of the kind that happens all too often in black houses of worship. Roof has been charged with shooting and killing nine people, including senior pastor of the church and South Carolina state Sen. Clementa Pinckney.

The article that follows explores the history of persecution of the early church, some of the reasons behind it, and two important questions that we must raise with Christian responses to persecution: the glorification of persecution in the church, and why would anyone what to hurt Christians?

In the first few centuries of Christianity

In the first few centuries of Christianity, the church endured regular (though not constant) persecution at the hands of Roman authorities. This experience, is so deeply rooted in legacy of the church that it resulted in the multiple stories of martyrs and apologists, that today we know these stories as The Gospel, which is the foundation that Christians base their core beliefs on-in addition to having other significant historical and theological consequences for the developing our faith.

Level, amount and  Persecutions

According to historical record-The total number of Christians martyred in the early church is unknown. Although some early writers speak of “great “modern scholars tend to believe the actual number is not so great as is sometimes imagined. Out of the 54 emperors who ruled between 30 and 311 AD, only about a dozen went out of their way to persecute Christians.

Early_persecution_of_christian by Nero
Early_persecution_of_christian by Nero

It has been calculated that between the first persecution under Nero in 64 to the Edict of Milan in 313, Christians experienced 129 years of persecution and 120 years of toleration and peace.

The Roman persecutions were generally sporadic, localized, and dependent on the political climate and disposition of each emperor. Moreover, imperial decrees against Christians were often directed against church property, the Scriptures, or clergy only. It has been estimated that more Christians have been martyred in the last 50 years than in the church’s first 300 years.

Why is the Christian Church Persecuted

If we look at history we would see- In order to understand the distrust of Christianity, one can review and understand the Early Roman view of religion. For the Romans, religion was first and foremost a social activity that promoted unity and loyalty to the state – a religious attitude the Romans called pietas, or piety.

Marcus Tullius Cicero (January 106 BC – 7 December 43 BC)
Marcus Tullius Cicero (January 106 BC – 7 December 43 BC)

Cicero (pictured, right) wrote that “if piety in the Roman sense were to disappear, social unity and justice would perish along with it.”

The truth is at its core, the church is one giant social network. It exists as an intricate, but totally connected community. Even more important, many Christians believe that God is working within this network himself. Devotion to Jesus has been a large part of the African-American experience. The black church has been and continues to be a powerful force in the African-American community.

In the United States, Christians reacted to slavery in a substantially different way. While there was vocal Christian protest against the slave trade and much of the abolitionist movement was spear-headed by Christian people, there were also many Christians who defended slavery. The issue of slavery grew more divisive, and eventually most of the major Protestant denominations divided over the issue. This actually set the stage for the Civil War.

Another major example of Christian Persecution was The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing (below) was an act of white supremacist terrorism that occurred at the African-American 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, September 15, 1963, when four members of the Ku Klux Klan planted a minimum of 15 sticks of dynamite attached to a timing device beneath the front steps of the church.

Described by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as “one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetrated against humanity,” the explosion at the church killed four girls and injured 22 others.

What can we do in an effort of prevention

With structural racism the global issues are deep rooted worldwide. While the issues seem to become more pronounced everyday making this tragedy about religion instead of race allows many others  to avoid discussions about how their positions vis a vis race and government tend to reenforce rather than dismantle the structural racism still present in our society today. On a more social, practical level, Christians are distrusted by extreme mist organizations in part because of the nature of their worship.

In any case, it is sad that such experiences ever occur, because the church is an indispensable part of the believer’s life. Not only does it provide a place to worship, serve and learn about God, but it is also a community where believers can practice love toward their brethren as the Bible requires; “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

These tools extend fellowship beyond the church walls and stretch it around the world are needed as They help us fulfill Jesus’ command to Peter, which still echoes for us today: “Put out into deep water” (Luke 5:4). GLG

Why the State of Ohio cannot say it has not played a part in the Murder of Tamir Rice, John Crawford and others. Part 1

This week would have been the 13th Birthday of Tamir Rice. As a public awareness, we as the editorial (oneworld01.com) felt it necessary to discuss (in a series), Why the state of Ohio cannot say it has not played a part in the Murder of Tamir Rice, John  Crawford and others. In this series we want help communities understand the complexities of these two high-profile cases and then we hope to bring Change-Stand with Us! As we release an article every week.
__
Ohio Governor John Kasich
Ohio Governor John Kasich
Last Fall when the 69th Governor of Ohio, Republican John Kasich who had been in office since 2011, announced a new police standards board to address the use of deadly force by officers, most believe that it was sparked in part by the death of Tamir Rice. At the time Governor Kasich, said “more action needs to be taken to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.”  According to reports, Kasich then spoke of bridging the “gap” between law enforcement and the black community with this new board. The board aimed to lay out clear and unambiguous guidelines for when it’s acceptable for officers to use deadly force against suspects.
__
But within the 2 seconds after Tamir Rice was killed he (Tamir) then became another “Public Police Killing in Ohio. Afterward many locals believed that Governor John Kasich, then used the BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) as a proxy cover-up to give the appearance of outward action. Instead, The BCI acted negatively by blocking outside investigations and stonewalling the press. Judging from the research conducted by surveys of many locals-it was concluded that BCI was largely ineffective, and nothing notable has ever came out of the BCI Board except more public distrust.
Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.
Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.

Many Ohio locals believe blame should be directed at the BCI because in their words BCI is also largely responsible for the Whitewashing of the murder of John Crawford in a Walmart store in Beavercreek Ohio. In this situation Police were determined to kill a guy with a gun. Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.  Police did not respond to an active shooter situation in either case and in both cases they killed young black men. On the positive side-As the public becomes more aware of both cases we are seeing support from notable people, one example “My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people,” said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins (picture below).

"My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people," said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins
My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people,” said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins

In short, Governor Kasich’s action or lack thereof has made balancing the scales to bring justice to booth cases act even more difficult. He apparently has his own very strongly held, views on just how this thing ought to be handled. The Governor’s position as the lead executive of Ohio can be a resource and real instrument for change, if he truly wanted.

If there was a way of communicating with Governor Kasich- one position that he could take that would be sensible is to make Public statements that support reform- this alone would make a difference. There’s no reason why—that I can see—why, circumstances, terms and conditions that any of these simple suggestions couldn’t be worked out.

Governor Kasich needs to be held accountable for his weak Civil Rights Policy

Governor Kasich has also is launching what many feel will most likely be an unsuccessful bid for the US presidency on platforms that opposed the expansion of federal power and appeal to white populist sentiments. During each election cycle, he modified his racial views to suit the times. Despite his support for road construction, education, and industrial development,  Kasich is known for his soft resistance to civil rights, limited economic vision, failure to reform the tax code, and total focus on campaigning, at the expense of running the state. Contact Governor Kasich to tell him-Stand Up for Justice!

One other suggestion is that all investigations of local police homicides should be surrendered to an outside independent agency with Federal Government Influence, once done we could see far fewer “justified” tragedies. In any case – We need the Ohio Governor’s Office to propose true legislation itself will protect its citizens and not enable anyone to discriminate against anyone else, with no fear of government intervention or punishment. We need to send a clear message that “no one is above the law.” Simple communication from inside the community may greatly help attention to booth cases.

Mark Clements

Human Rights Advocate Mark Clements was 16-years-old when he was tortured into confessing to crimes he did not commit by police officers under the command of Jon Burge. He spent 27 years in prison for arson and murder–and was released after the true circumstances surrounding his “confession” came to light.

Clements was instrumental, in the prosecution of John Burge who reportedly tortured more than 200 criminal suspects between 1972 and 1991 in order to force confessions  after a jury found former Chicago police lieutenant Burge guilty of federal perjury and obstruction of justice charges for lying about torture. Today Mark is an instrumental leader with the Campaign to End the Death and has advocated on cases across America.

NY Police Union is wrong! but turning their backs on New York Mayor is a definite case of “Chickens coming home to Roost.”

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World
In New York, The funeral for Police Officer Rafael Ramos was attended by hundreds of police officers outside the Queens, N.Y. church. Saturday during the funeral multiple officers turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio as he eulogized the fallen officer who was ambushed last week along with his partner. Police union officials blame de Blasio for comments he made about the police amid protests over the deaths of Brown and Garner.  The police union’s president, Patrick Lynch, and others turned their backs on the mayor in a sign of disrespect.

When De Blasio’s remarks were being shown on large TV monitors outside the Christ Tabernacle Church. Police union officials accused the mayor of fostering a climate of mistrust that contributed to the killings of Officer Ramos and his partner. Vice President Joe Biden spoke and expressed condolences directly to Ramos’ two sons.

New York Police Commissioner Bratton said Ramos and his partner were assassinated because of who they were. “They were killed for their color,” the commissioner said. “They were blue.”

The question that many may ask is; based on the overall, climate of confusion, are police really the victims? While it is true that these officers died tragically in a sequence of events that was totally uncalled for, and as many know their killer was a mentally disturbed individual, with a reported history of psychological episodes. If we are to ask ourselves the question is, Are Police really the victims? Lets look closer at some facts:

  • The NYPD’s stop-and-frisk practices had long raised serious concerns over racial profiling, illegal stops and privacy rights. The Department’s own report on its stop-and-frisk activity confirm what many people in communities of color across the city have long known: The police are/have been stopping hundreds of thousands of law-abiding New Yorkers every year, and the vast majority are black and Latino.
Officers in New York displaying their Racially charged Stop and Frisk Policy
Officers in New York displaying their Racially charged Stop and Frisk Policy
  • An analysis by the NYCLU revealed that innocent New Yorkers have been subjected to police stops and street interrogations more than 4 million times since 2002, and that black and Latino communities continue to be the overwhelming target of these tactics.
  • It was wrong for police unions and their support groups to say that Eric Garner was overweight at 350-400 pounds and battling asthma, many posters on the sites TheeRant and PoliceOne.com said the Staten Island father and husband brought his death last Thursday upon himself. They said his health contributed to his cardiac arrest, and that their interpretation of an eyewitness video of Garner’s altercation with police last Thursday was that he resisted arrest.
  • It is wrong for Police to protest at a funeral, period! Take your protest elsewhere!
  • As far as the Chickens coming to Roost for New York, Mayor de Blasio, who campaigned on a promise to “end the era of stop-and-frisk policing,” moved slowly to do that. He (de Blasio) announced a deal to drop the city’s appeal of a court ruling that found the NYPD’s use of stop-and-frisk violated the constitutional rights of minorities. Mostly it seems that, the questionable “Stop and Frisk,” police policy is still on the forefront of their agenda, and has not stopped.

In addition-adding to the confusion by fighting against the Mayor, who is the head of their community is a total misuse of their time. More importantly the fact of the matter it shows that our Police who are trained sworn public servants may not care about the hurt families, divided communities and the large number of citizens who have  withdrawn their support and they have expressed disappointment with the perceived mishandling the Police Brutality situation. This erosion of the public trust between Police and the community, will need to be resolved.

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)

  • We all must speak for those who are not strong enough to negotiate peace and urge them to work a little bit harder.
  • We must not stop or listen to the reports of loss and destruction without feeling that we all have a responsibility to do something. Then we must respond to the call for much needed Change!

The Need for Urban Christian Leadership: “Life” Lessons we must teach our children.

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World
The not guilty verdict and acquittal of all charges against George Zimmerman in the case of Trayvon Martin, and the more recent Darren Wilson in the case of Mike Brown has angered many people because some feel that “justice,” was not served and both cases. In both cases the killings of these young African American Men (teenagers). Is a tragedy without question! Many believe that race played a role in the jury’s judgments? The what does this demonstrate about our country’s ability to provide justice for all? let’s discuss these questions.
Strangely enough there is a similarity between both cases, but there are some lingering questions we must ask ourselves. We could ask-Why would police take the word of a man holding a pistol over the body of a boy? Why would any witness’ story be changed?

As a Nation did we fail?

Ultimately some of these questions will be answered by investigators. Other questions—the deeper, more disturbing ones that ask about equality and intolerance—must be answered within our classrooms and our courtrooms. These dark  (deeper) questions have grown from our living rooms and our televisions. Their very existence attests that we, as a nation, have failed our Trayvon Martins, and are failing our Mike Browns.

Before his death at the hands of a white police officer, Michael Brown had graduated from Normandy High School – a school whose academic standards and finances were so poor that it had been declared “unaccredited” by Missouri state education authorities.

During the 2011-2012 school year, 829 young black men and women were meted out one out-of-school suspension by Ferguson-Florissant. That’s 8.1 percent of the 10,197 black children attending the district’s schools, according to data submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.

  • A recent study by the Office for Civil Rights shows that the percentage of young black men suspended from school (as Martin was) is far greater than that of their peers. However, Chief Charles Hurley of the Miami-Dade School Police Department (MDSPD) in 2010 had implemented a policy that reduced the number of criminal reports, manipulating statistics to create the appearance of a reduction in crime within the school system. Less than two weeks before Martin’s death, the school system commended Chief Hurley for “decreasing school-related juvenile delinquency by an impressive 60 percent for the last six months of 2011.”
  • Another study, by The Sentencing Project, examines vastly disproportionate rates of incarceration for African-American Men. We should be asking ourselves why these disparities exist?

Deep rooted Victim Complex

Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown both were not victims of their seemingly racist killers alone. They both were  victims of the lopsided school systems that failed them. They where victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are a victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill if they feel threatened in any way.

(AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)

Tomorrow, look around your community (your home). Do you have any Trayvon Martins? As an educator, you have the power to stave off the emptiness of young Brown’s death. Talk to your children about racism. Question legislation that endorses vigilantism. Speak up against police inaction. Tell your child that he is protected, first by “God,” and then you. We all must champion our children’s rights.

Nothing will fully fill the void created in the lives of Trayvon’s and Mike’s family, TMEfriends and teachers. But Trayvon’s empty desk must become a symbol of awareness and change—a sign to our society that the current state of affairs is not acceptable, and we won’t let you or anyone else destroy us and our future without a fight!

Star Witness for Brown Case Prosecutor-A liar and Fraud

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

Sandy McElroy and Bob McCollouch
Sandy McElroy and Bob McCollouch

So apparently the only witness, witness #40, who testified that Mike Brown charged Darren Wilson and beat Wilson, and the only witness Bob McCulloch determined to be credible fabricated her entire story. In a report by the Smoking Gun they identify witness #40 as 45-year-old St. Louis resident Sandra McElroy who was nowhere near Canfield Drive on the Saturday afternoon Brown was shot to death.

The #FBI had already determined she was not credible and could not have been in the area, but prosecutors still used her testimony to help out Darren Wilson. In addition to her fabrication in the Mike Brown case she has also inserted herself in other high-profile St. Louis cases and was found to be lying. She also has a long history of making vicious racist remarks online and offline including many racist remarks made on social media following Mike Brown’s death.

She waited four weeks to come forward as a witness, after Wilson’s outline of his account were made public, and made many comments on Facebook that proved she had no idea what transpired on Canfield Drive that day. She has a criminal history, is bi-polar, and suffered an injury from a car accident that affects her memory. So a confirmed liar that is known to insert herself into cases and fabricate testimony, is a vile racist, has a criminal history, was determined to not be credible by the FBI, wasn’t even at the scene of the Brown killing, and is the only witness to corroborate Wilson’s story was the prosecutions star witness. All by itself the inclusion of Sandy McElroy as a witness before the grand jury is grounds for a new grand jury. Her testimony possibly has done irreparable damage to the case.

Breaking News*George Stinney Jr. Exonerated in South Carolina Judge rules!

Posted on Updated on

thXSW8II64

Today ends, long fight to resolve the Stinney Jr. case in South Carolina, I appreciate all the advocates on the case who stayed the course though it all! We would hope that the struggle for “Justice,” does not end here. We need everyone in our battle. God Bless You all, and God Bless George Stinney Jr,

Rev. Gregg L Greer (Stinney Advocate)

(REPOST FROM THE GRIO)

In June 16, 1944, 14-year-old George Stinney, Jr. became the youngest person executed in the United States in the past century.

Wednesday, a South Carolina judge vacated Stinney’s conviction, which essentially clears his name. Stinney was convicted of murdering two white girls in Alcolu, South Carolina.

His trial lasted a few hours and no witnesses were called on his behalf. When he was sentenced to die by electrocution, no appeal was filed.

No physical evidence or trial transcript exists.

Below is the order from Circuit Judge Carmen T. Mullen:

This Court finds fundamental, Constitutional violations of due process exist in the 1944 prosecution of George Stinney, Jr. and hereby vacates the judgment.

According to WBTV’s Jeremy Turnage’s report, Judge Mullen wrote:

Given the particularized circumstances of Stinney’s case, I find by a preponderance of the evidence standard, that a violation of the Defendant’s procedural due process rights tainted his prosecution.

Defense lawyer Matthew Burgess told theGrio.com that Wednesday “is a great day in South Carolina,” because of the ruling.

“We’re very pleased that George Stinney has been exonerated and that the conviction against him has been vacated.”

Burgess said he’s talked with Stinney’s sister Amie and the family is “very happy.”

Cleveland Police Union Chief Jeff Follmer said, 12 year old’s shooting was justified

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 12-year-old boy wielding what turned out to be a BB gun when he was shot by police outside a Cleveland recreation center, whose name has not been officially released, was shot in the stomach, He was taken to a nearby medical center in serious condition, EMS officials said. Throughout the night his condition deteriorated and he died.

th
Tamir rice Slain 12 year old

The shooting came after a man at the park adjacent to the rec center called police when he saw “a guy with a gun pointing it at people.

The caller twice said the gun was “probably fake” and told dispatchers the person pulling the gun from his waistband was “probably a juvenile,” according to audio released by police officials late that Saturday.

The caller’s doubt was never relayed to the responding officers – one in his first year on the force, and the other with at least a decade of experience, Follmer said.

JF
Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Jeff Follmer

How could Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Jeff Follmer say “The shooting was in anyway justified.”?

In a television interview Jeff Follmer, not only refers to Tamir Rice, the 12 year old boy tragically shot down by cowboy police as a “man,” but put in no uncertain terms that the shooting was 100% justified. He said this as the All In show’s video crew played a side-by-side of Follmer talking and the heartbreaking security cam video of Tamir Rice’s death.

He (Jeff Follmer) go’s on to say, “”If you listen to us you wouldn’t be dead right now.” Remember folks — its easy! Just do everything we tell you exactly when we tell you and you wont be dead. By the way, you have 3 seconds before your life is over. No pressure!

The rookie officer saw the boy at a park bench pick up what looked like a gun and placed it in his waistband, Follmer said.

Tamir_Rice_airsoft_BB_gun_1416852471112_9829902_ver1_0_640_480

The officer ordered the boy to put his hands in the air. Instead, police said, the boy reached for his gun. Deputy Chief Edward Tomba said the boy made no verbal threats to the officer and there was no physical confrontation.

The officer fired twice at the boy, hitting him in the stomach at least once. The department’s Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.

This Sadistic Pathetic Cowboy (Follmer) has the audacity to call a dead youth’s murder justified.  This is why, we see harm with the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they are sworn to protect, sowing suspicion where trust is urgently needed. False sentiment and absolute ignorance will continue to have an impact in targeted communities. The results can be catastrophic for all ,This must stop!

In the mean time my organization Freedom First International and the Guilty In Innocence Project have both asked for the immediate removal of Jeff follmer Please join us:

Notes from my Struggle: S.C.L.C-Standing in the Shadows of Love

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the SCLC First President
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the SCLC First President

Friends, I hope this message finds you in Peace and in Love,

I want to indicate the exact reasoning  why I wrote this post-case in point that is over the past ten years I have been heavenly  influenced by the plight of those less fortunate or the poor. My goal was not to seek empathy, but my “Clarion Call,” came through the need to assist others. After the experience of the death of a “loved one,” up until that point I quickly discovered how God humbles men to submit to his will. As the scripture in the book of Prophet James says, “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”  Moving forward-I can honestly say my first direct action campaign was to advocate with The American Civil Liberties Union vs. The Death Penalty. The ACLU is nonpartisan organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution.  I must argue that the current state of our country has readily shown me that perhaps many people’s view of constitutional rights is purely subjective to say the least.

imagesSEHH8FFC

Over the last five years, I’ve had honor of serving as a general member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and within the past year organizing as a Chapter President in the SCLC State of Florida under the great leadership of Pastor RL Gundy. While, there frequently we would be called to engage in nonviolent direct action programs if deemed necessary. As a man of faith, I felt an urgency to live up to that promise. In early 2012  while on the way to a meeting in Atlanta, Georgina with then S.C.L.C Executive Director Damien Connors, I was contacted by members of a committee to assist members of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Family in an initiative that would counter the removal of then SCLC President Issac Farris. I decided to give strategic and operational support to this effort because I specialize in both areas through training and attrition. Though the campaign was short-lived, very valid points became readily apparent.

Up until that point until the present time I participated as a growing national leader in advocating and organizing many campaigns for human rights, examples include as lead advocate George Stinney Jr. vs. South Carolina, The Florida (National) Battle vs. Stand Your Ground to name a few. All these events have heightened my concern because many of us are doing the work of our First National President Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as an obligation to the legacy. Moreover because we are called by God to do his will. Other great standouts are SCLC Chapter of Jacksonville, Florida (great organization),  SCLC Peoples Coalition (unofficial, but growing), SCLC Roanoke, VA (great organization), SCLC State Chapter of Texas and many more.

Moreover, I am aware of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. Over the past few years I along with many have concern if and why the National Leadership would sit back idly and not “show in prove,” concern about what happens in Ferguson, Mo., New York, NY., Chicago, IL., In truth Dr. King once told us “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” While this was a bidding concern for many of us, in truth every day It has become readily apparent that we have been absent from the national frontlines.  It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place around the country, but it is even more unfortunate that the power structure left the African-American community and others with no alternative. Where are we as an organization in all of this?

In truth at this most important time in our nation, we need you as our voice to stand up! To take a side, to enter into the national concern, to become a voice, to break through dissidence and continue the work as our founders have given their lives to our cause. For the record I must say; I give my life to this cause, and I’ll die for the cause.

Freedom First
our motto “Fiat justitia, et pereat mundus” is a Latin phrase, meaning: “Let there be justice, though the world perish.”

Note: I have started an alternative organization Freedom First International because I didn’t want to worry about the overall impression of taking liberties from our organization here because I have organizational ties there and Freedom First was born out of the rich tradition of the SCLC. Freedom started as a Chapter Affiliate. Our  motto “Fiat justitia, et pereat mundus” is a Latin phrase, meaning: “Let there be justice, though the world perish.” I would never compare the two, but I honor and  preserve the mandate of those who died on the front lines of love for us! So, we work toward the future!

I still believe in our organization, as Dr.King said, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

I hope this message finds you in “Peace and Love,” but ultimately my three questions to you;  1) are we standing on the wrong side of history? or 2) with our founders legacy at stake are we standing in the shadows of love? 3) Can we redeem? – I (many) need to know.
