Starting Today Human Rights Leaders around the country are preparing a multinational protest rally against, Stand Your Ground, and Police brutality starting in Florida with calls to hundreds of students from FAMU, Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College and other members of the community are answer the call to protest at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee on April 8, 2014 this effort will be joined by similar efforts from around this country.”
In a recent interview Reverend Reginald Gundy -Florida State President from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference went on to call Florida the last “Birmingham” of the South.” “The government does not respect us. The legislative body neglects us,” he continued, saying that it may be time to put “boots on the ground,” which might mean going after the economic system in the state, though he did not specify how that might happen.
This is the most comprehensive effort of its kind, The Freedom First International a division of the S.C.L.C and Associate organizations have announced on April 8, 2014 thought their collaboration will hold the largest national Protest against “Stand your Ground,” But we didn’t want to stop with just a rally, we have a Four Point Initiative in mind to combat, Stand Your Ground!
Four Point Initiative to Combat ” Stand Your Ground”
Moral Censorship is the effort for removal any law that abuses those with a more passive voice. Be their Voice! (Church, Elderly)
Strategic Censorship is the process which we will keep intelligence and tactics about the opposition.” (Make it known to the Public)
Political Censorship release all community sensitive data held back from the citizens. (In our forum Judges, municipal officials, Police, and anyone acting outside of the public interest and their issue will be made known.”)
Corporate Censorship is the process by which any corporation who are known to disrupt the public and have the publishing portrays acted outside the public interest their business or business partners behave in negative light, will be subject to far-reaching public exposure.
In a recent article The Tampa Times identified cases through media reports, court records and dozens of interviews with prosecutors and defense attorneys across the state.
Defendants claiming “stand your ground” are more likely to prevail if the victim is black.
Seventy-three percent of those who killed a black person faced no penalty compared to 59 percent of those who killed a white.
The number of cases is increasing, mostly because defense attorneys are using “stand your ground” in ways state legislators never envisioned.’ . It has been invoked in dozens of cases with minor or no injuries. It has also been used by a self-described “vampire” in Pinellas County, a Miami man arrested with a single marijuana cigarette, a Fort Myers homeowner who shot a bear and a West Palm Beach jogger who beat a Jack Russell terrier.
People often go free under “stand your ground” in cases that seem to make a mockery of what lawmakers intended. One man killed two unarmed people and walked out of jail. Another shot a man as he lay on the ground. Others went free after shooting their victims in the back. In nearly a third of the cases, the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their victim — and still went free.
Depending on who ruled their cases, amazing dope dealers challenging self-defense have gone to jail while others have been set free.” The similarly holds true for killers who left a fight, only to arm themselves and return. Shoot someone from your doorway? Fire on a fleeing burglar? Your case can swing on different interpretations of the law by prosecutors, judge or jury.
- Claiming “stand your ground, ” people have used force to meet force outside an ice cream parlor, on a racquetball court and at a school bus stop. Two-thirds of the defendants used guns, though weapons have included an ice pick, shovel and chair leg.
According to Gregg L Greer, ” Stand Your Ground is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation ever known in America since “lynching.” If you maintain “stand your ground” as the reason you shot at someone, whatever happens to you can depend less on the merits of the case than on who you are, and in whatever state your case is decided.’ caption=”‘If you maintain “stand your ground” as the reason you killed someone, whatever happens to you can depend less on the merits of the case than on who you are, whom you kill and in whatever state your case is decided.’ “Stand Your Ground excuses us from being human to each other, and gives an excuse for inhumane treatment of your neighbors” It is time for us all to make a clear distinction from our pulpits and office desk and make an action, happen!”
