Divided America: Please don’t compare the murder of Alton Sterling and others to the Police shootings in Dallas

As the headlines rage giving details to the recent Dallas Police shootings:

At least five police officers have been shot dead in the United States at protests over recent police killings of black men.’

Gunfire broke out late on this Thursday during an otherwise peaceful protest over two recent police killings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana . The sound of gunfire sent marchers running and police scrambling for cover.

The Dallas Police Department said on Twitter : “It has been a devastating night. We are sad to report a fifth officer has died.”

I for one pray that not one more person looses life, because the wicked act is no way an accepted course of action to remedy what many believe is huge governing failure on all parts of our society. This country (USA) has the highest incarceration rate in the world for blacks, and that’s failure.”

Not much time has been given to solving one of this country’s most diabolical challenges—the persistence of homicide in poor African-American communities “that’s a failure”.. The numbers are staggering. From 1980 to 2013, 262,000 black males were killed in America-“that’s a failure.” By contrast, roughly 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam “that’s a failure. For many years the killers of these men were, in the vast majority of cases, other African-American men.

I must say I disagree with the President this time-because I don’t believe that we should balance our remarks in this time by saying “Blue Lives Matter, or All Lives Matter”-this to me is an insult that supports a strategic cover up on some folks part-to dilute the issue. The issue is that it’s time to speak to the heart of the matter and address the change that is necessary to prevent more lives from being lost.

I was immediately disturbed when watching CNN coverage of the Dallas shootings, Anchor Brian Williams kept comparing the shootout in Dallas to the murders of young Black and Latino male attacks around the country and the world. This has to change, period

Justice can no longer be unbalanced and accepted because we will all lose, and no one wins this time. We all loose through blood sweat, and more tears.

Peace and Love,

Dear Governor-My Letter to the Governor Bruce Rauner

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

Dear Governor, As an organizer leader in the group that lead the successful effort to stop the “Dusable-Juneteenth Day Celebration that you intended to host. I feel happily unapologetic-because many people are suffering under this current “bold,” leadership that you provide, it hurts those who are not as proficient in the art of gain (directly meaning) that they can’t survive without valuable and much-needed public funds-this is a fact that you know very well.
Truly Governor, we are in a battle to defend those human rights here in Illinois that many are being denied. That is why-I have started to assist in organizing the thousands of union members, human service advocates, academics and other concerned civic citizens to join this conflict. They are the real hero’s of the moment.
As the top executive in our state-I believe you have the ultimate potential to do more to help the minority poor in our communities-As it stands you gravely mis-allocate human energy, life, and potential, for expenditures, in doing so you and your team remove yourselves of what it means to be compassionate.
On a lower level Governor Rauner you have not responded well to hear our concerns, instead choosing to attack schools in minority communities by calling them “crumbling prisons,”

Please consider Ms. Caprice Williams from Harmony Village,. She was one of the homeless youth who met with you. As they told you their story and what would happen if homeless youth programs like theirs would close down because of the budget crisis. Afterward The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless told the youth that money was already collected and sitting in Springfield. They were informed  that you could ensure these programs didn’t have to close.

“But the next Tuesday, his staff called to say there was nothing they could do. We asked why not, and his staff just said no. I felt betrayed by Gov. Rauner because he told us what we wanted to hear to keep us calm and so he would not look like the bad guy.”

Caprice Williams, Cain’s Chicago Business Editorial March 2016

Now, we are hearing reports that you have Senator Meeks organizing and directing a team of Pro Rauner Activist  who favor your agenda to counter the efforts of our community organizers-If this is true-it will be a serious waste of time and resources. I would hope that you would spend that time making it known that you care about the poorer communities though direct action-like releasing valuable public funds.

While I’m not ready to met after receiving multiple invitations -I can be available for private or public correspondence in hopes that you would find a way to make the lives of the many who need you as the top executive of our state easier.

For we the people are the writers of history, and I am certain that the coming days will prove, as always in history, that man will  free itself from the grips of oppression, and the most universal theme known to any man throughout history is Freedom First! with that in mind-I pray history will be kinder to you.
Sincerely
Pastor GL. Greer (President, Freedom First International SCLC)

****Updated Media Advisory *****

On This coming Monday June  20, 2016 at 11:00 am-Multiple community activist (groups) and union organizers will conduct a Peace Rally and Press Conference outside of the Dusable Museum at 740 E 56th Pl Chicago, IL  for the local (south side) Chicago community to continue to join together after they (group) along with applied community support-as well as the Governors team decision contributed to a cancellation of Governor Rauner’s scheduled exclusive private event at the Dusable  on Juneteeth. (See Invitation below) on a holiday which marked the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865.

Hundreds of people from over including 20 organizations would have assembled to send a clear message to the Governor that a political narrative was not welcome on Juneteenth   at the Dusable nor anywhere else in our community.

(We have to hold our institutions accountable, their best standards and practices have to be centered around the well being of the people and the development and empowerment of the community. said, other of the organizers)

Kofi Ademola a Chicago Leader from Black Lives Matter

(The consensus from participating organizations is they still want to do this action. They want to send a “strong message” to Governor Rauner regarding his disrespect to our community and the fact that he continues to hold our state hostage for his political agenda. )

S.E.I.U of Illinois and participating union partners

The activist agree- The last straw was this past week-was when Rauner used extremely demeaning language such as calling Chicago Public Schools a ” crumbling prison” to argue the school district doesn’t deserve an additional $100 million in funding-which shows he has no to little regard for the struggles of working and lower-income inner city Illinoisans.

For their effort, they (group) believe that the integrity of the black and poor minority community is being threatened by the violence, bad leadership, and lack of education and that ongoing and progressive solutions must be sought, not political grandstanding.

REVOKE RAUNER

On Today  June 16, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Community Activist leadership will hold a press conference to at City Hall (121 N LaSalle St, Chicago, IL 60602) to discuss their opposition and plans to prevent (Revoke) Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and event sponsors (Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council)  from coordinating an event at the Historic Dusable Museum on Juneteenth (See Invitation below).

We (activist) feel it is of bad taste and a serious offense that on Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, which is a holiday that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery, more generally the emancipation of African-America slaves throughout the Confederate South-That the Conservative Right-Wing Governor and his team would coordinate such an effort. They believe-the effort is pure propaganda with no sincere interest from the Governor!

Freedom First International, Violence Interrupters, Black Lives Matter along with other community activist (groups) will conduct a Protest Rally and Press Conference outside of the Dusable, IL on June 20, 2016 calling for the local (south side) Chicago community to join together and protest in opposition of Governor Rauner. The Governors leads an oppressive organization-that is showing it doesn’t care.

Gov. Bruce Rauner and his team suspended billions of dollars in social services and public health grants as part of his push to whittle away at a $1.6 billion shortfall in the current state budget, making life a living hell- for seniors, the poor and inner city citizens.

The activist agree- The last straw was last week-was when Rauner used extremely demeaning language such as calling Chicago Public Schools a ” crumbling prison” to argue the school district doesn’t deserve an additional $100 million in funding-which shows he has no to little regard for the struggles of working and lower-income inner city Illinoisans.

For their effort, they (group) believe that the integrity of the black and poor minority community is being threatened by the violence, bad leadership, and lack of education and that ongoing and progressive solutions must be sought.

The group wants the community to call the DuSable 773.947.0600 and voice concerns about Rauner speaking. Also call the host organization-Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council 105 West Adams Street, Suite 2300, Chicago, IL 60603

Many believe James Meeks is a traitor to his community-A complete Sellout! Hmmm

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016
James T. Meeks is African American and a former Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, who represented the 15th district from 2003 to 2013. He is also an active Baptist minister in Chicago and former chair of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus.
Many feel James Meeks is a traitor to his community- again, many agree James Meeks is a traitor to his community. First strike against Meeks came when he took a lot of heat for backing Governor Bruce Rauner who was elected in 2015. Meeks went against the interest of the poor, black and minority community to accept a position of influence in this “Elitists” Republican administration. Rauner’s net worth is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars

Gov.-elect Bruce Rauner then named former State Sen. James Meeks chairman of the Illinois State Board of Education, as the Republican’s new cabinet and staff began in January of 2015.

Understandably Meeks, had been made aware that as a Chicago Democrat, his endorsement of a “Rightwing,” Neocon,” Republican in Rauner caused a stir. Due to the fact that since taking office the Governors agenda has been damaging, selfish, and wholely outside of the interest of the mainstream public.  Gov. Bruce Rauner and his team including Meeks suspended $26 million in social services and public health grants as part of his push to whittle away at a $1.6 billion shortfall in the current state budget, making life hell!- for seniors, the poor and inner city citizens.

The last straw was this past week-when Rauner used extremely demeaning language such as calling Chicago Public Schools a ” crumbling prison” to argue the school district doesn’t deserve an additional $100 million in funding shows he has no to little regard for the struggles of working and lower-income inner city Illinoisans.

Rauner and meeks.jpg

When you look objectively at the status of Chicago Public Schools many of them are inadequate. Many of them are woeful and some are just tragic. Many of them are basically just crumbling prisons.” Bruce Rauner

In the meantime Rev. James T. Meeks, has been disturbingly non vocal about this issue. In fact far beyond the  disrespectful verbiage of his boss-Our good fellow- Meeks has not said a word in defense of helpless young poor black children as Chicago Public Schools have struggled thoughout community. Not a word!

According a 2013 article from the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance,

Rev. Meeks has made his contempt and disgust of many communities very clear.  He has said publicly that LGBT people are “not natural” that we’re “an evil sickness”, and supports a deadly anti-choice stance. Meeks also believes in the exclusion of Latinos, and Asians as minorities, and that women of all races should not be considered a minority community because they “are not people who have been discriminated against.”

I along with many believe James Meeks is standing on the wrong side of the fence and on the wrong side of history! We must begin to call out our communities provocateurs. Maybe it’s time someone had a “COME TO JESUS TALK.”  or a “COME BACK HOME TALK, or even A COME TO YOUR SENSES TALK!

PEACE AND LOVE! “G”
