A One World Commentary: Trumps Executive Order Is It A Gift or Curse?

By Anita Hall  (Editorial Contributor, The Debrief)

Recently President Donald Trump signed an executive order ending his administration’s policy of separating migrant families…this action has left many confused and wondering if the recent Presidential order is a gift and a curse.

Unfortunately, an executive order that was executed prior to this one had allowed children to be separated from their families, making those children the true victims of this “cold war.” These children were separated from their loved ones, and then placed in harsh foster care environments to say the least.

For many of the oppressed immigrant families-the thought of these children struggling with the worry of how long will it take before being able to be reunited with their parents, (which can very well be a long time, depending on the circumstances), is heartbreaking. Although they are not technically considered orphans, most will understand their feelings.

One issue that the separated children may have to deal with is the fact that long-term separation may have caused is separation anxiety. This illness is extremely devastating for both parents and children. Separation anxiety refers to excessive fear or anxiety about separation from home or an attachment figure. In previous versions of the DSM, separation anxiety was only applied to people under the age of 18. The diagnosis is now categorized as an anxiety disorder that can be present at all stages of life.

For the record many, who do not agree with the first order, were equally disturbed and dumbfounded upon hearing about the signing of a second executive order as many wondered what was the purpose of this first. The overall question that has remained on the minds of watchers is-was the order meant to separate children from their parents?  Did President Trump sign order to keep the children safe or to punish the parent? Now that the bill was overturned what will be the fate of the children when the parents have also been detained for trying to cross the border?

Atlas Mr. President “Oh, what a tangled web we weave…when first we practice to deceive.”

Most would agree second executive order, is not going to fix the damage which the prior order had placed upon the victims of bad immigration policy. Those who oppose both the bills overall will say “signing the order did not settle any minds,” and it will not change the negative attitude gear toward immigrants. If anything has happened by the President signing those bills it has separated this country even more, and people are now wondering what’s next.

I think we are all curious about how this will eventually play out, as the young people say, “we stay ready,” and as we all wait-we could indeed heed these words found in the Bible from Isaiah1:17 for any resemblance of hope and inspiration for a more positive outcome.

For immediate Release: Press Conference Social Justice Activist call for Accountability and answers in the death of Shawn Brider-Today at 5:30pm

Posted on Updated on

Today  April 12, 2017 -at 5:30 pm at Chicago Police Station 3rd District 7040 S. Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

A group of civil rights activist and Family members said, Shawn Brider should have never been arrested Sunday night after falling asleep in a parked car with a child inside. At about 4:30 a.m., they were told Brider had died in custody at the 3rd District.

The man was found dead in the lockup area of a Chicago police station Monday morning in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Police reports said the man was found unresponsive at about 12:15 a.m. in the 3rd District Police Station lockup in the 7400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. As the day went on, the department’s spokesman said it appears the man may have had a cardiac arrest. Reports show about 4:30 a.m.,they were told Brider had died in custody at the 3rd District

Activist, strongly feel that Brider never should have been arrested on Sunday night for just merely falling asleep in a parked car even with a small child inside.  Activist and Briders family are questioning why Brider was taken into custody in the first place.
“He was just waiting for his girlfriend to come downstairs and he nodded off because he had been driving. They arrested him for that,” Kewonda Brider said.

“The Black Community in Poor Chicago are systematically being worn down and worn out by the constant microaggressions, When a suspect is arrested for merely sleeping in a car, we would have to ask the question where is the accountability? Did Brider have to be arrested and taken to the district or could he have been ticked?-The evidence is super compelling: The Chicago Police Department is in urgent need of reform. While the problems are clear, the path to solutions is filled with controversy. Even after Chicago Police Department was sanctioned by federal investigators who found that officers routinely used excessive force against minorities and tolerated “racially discriminatory conduct” by officers we still are seeing widespead abuse and issues-that could be rountinely avoidible.”What needs to happen is the time has now come for a frank and insightful discussion of what it will take to achieve true police reform in Chicago.  We will now push harder for the city to reform it’s policing policy.

Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has done an autopsy, but the results are pending more test results. Police are conducting a death investigation, and no further information was immediately available.

A group of civil rights and immigrant activists will gather on this Friday morning to express fears over the direction President Donald Trump is taking the country with immigrant rights.

They fear families will be torn apart by deportation and blocked from reuniting with relatives seeking to flee war and oppression in other countries after the president signed a pair of executive orders tightening immigration measures.

“We are working to wake up those who refuse to believe that “making America great again”  means spreading a message of racial separatism and hate.  closing off our nation with walls, illegally detaining men, women, and children, stripping cities of federal funding and tearing families apart with deportations,” For the record Freedom First International is part of the group also participated in the massive Trump protest in Chicago that put 16,000. people in Downtown.” Gregg L.Greer President of Freedom First International.

 For the record:

At the start of this effort the Family members and Community activist-Leadership will hold a joint Press Conference (briefing) -This Friday/morning April 7, 2017 in Broadview, IL at 7:15 AM, people of faith, civil rights activist and others will join together in a prayer vigil-protest demonstration at Broadview Immigration Processing Center (1930 Beach St., Broadview, IL) to support those who are in the immigration deportation process, the families of those being deported, and to be a public witness to the injustices of our harsh (enhanced) immigration system. The event will be coordinated by members of several organizations who will join leadership on the ground. Stand with us!

GUNCD

When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. And, when criminals can buy weapons without having their backgrounds checked, we suffer from a modern plague.

This Vigil will be part of our early effort to “Prevent the critical Issue of Gun Violence” for 2017 in areas in Chicago where this plague is taking young lives in abundance. (This corner is where a three year old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in an apparent accident.) The goal is to stop unnecessary loss of life!

WHY: The issue of gun violence — more specifically, Chicago’s gun violence — is by no means a new issue. However, President Trump has singled out the city, even threatening to send in the federal troops, as a part of his “law and order” campaign. The current discourse coming from the White House focuses on more police, more prison and increased criminalization of Black and Latino communities as a solution. Unfortunately, this narrative of retribution fully incorporates the Fraternal Order of Police viewpoint without considering the concerns of the community.

Rouge Chicago Cop-John Poulos”

***** Media Advisory *****

CHICAGO, IL-Social Justice activist will speak out and stand together for a Protest Rally on December 6, 2016 at 5:00pm. They are calling attention to- Sgt. John Poulos is being investigated for multiple incidents of “unjustified and excessive use of force.” According to police, the sergeant said he opened fire after 19-year-old Kajuan Raye twice pointed a gun at him during a foot chase two weeks ago-an incident weeks agao in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Soon afterward Poulos shot Raye in the back in cold blood. Police never found a weapon, despite a thorough search of the area. In 2013 Poulos shot and killed Rickey Rozelle in a darkened gangway at 1935 North Lincoln in Chicago. Poulos later relayed that he pulled the trigger because Rozelle threatened to kill him and “turned toward [him] with a shiny, metallic object in or near his hand,” according to records from the Chicago Police Department and IPRA. CPD awared this cop for his actions even promoted him.
It’s time to get bad cops of the streets for Public safety-We want to send a clear message to the public-that we won’t stop until this “Killer” cop is jailed. Stand with us at the Poulos owned family bar-STEPS from where Rickey Rozelle was murdered.

QUOTE: We believe only sadistic serial predators, “kill like that”-it would seem to us that the time is over due for change with the way the City of Chicago investigates “bad cops” because overall the results have shown absolute failure. Yes, we are asking Kim Fox to get involved as well as Federal Authorities, we must also question the role of our city leadership-post “Laquan McDonald,” due to the fact that to date we are seeing the unnecessary loss of life-at the hands of police. This time, I and Freedom First International plan to use any and all resources available, Chicago Policing must change now, or may more people will, die.

media-debrief

For Immediate Release: Chicago Activist and Civil Rights Leadership will stand and rally after police fatally shot 19 year old African American in the back

(District 7-Police Station)

 ***** Media Advisory *****

Hundreds of Activist will stand and rally today Nov. 26, 2016-Police fatally shot 19 year old African American Male-Kajuan Raye. In an unfortunate, tragic, and unclear set of circumstances the black teenager was shot in the back and killed by a Chicago police officer in the city’s South Side on the night before Thanksgiving. Kajuan Raye was waiting to take the bus home when he was approached by the officer, who claims he matched the description of a suspect in a ‘battery in progress’ on Wednesday night. Raye began to run away and the officer chased after him, according to authorities.

The sergeant claimed Raye turned and pointed a weapon at him ‘on two separate occasions during the pursuit’, so he fired multiple shots at the suspect.

Also please note: the circumstances of the shooting are being investigated. Raye was struck and killed. Police have yet to find any weapon despite searching the area overnight, according to CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

‘We were not able to locate a weapon as of yet, Johnson said on Thursday.

Raye’s family is “heartbroken that their son is dead at the hands of a police officer who does not value the sanctity of life of black males,” the statement reads. “As a city we continue to struggle with police who are afraid of and have deep seeded prejudices against black youth.

Statement From Freedom First International

“The murder of Kajuan Raye is further indication of a Police Department who appear, is in the wrong, facts show that they-shot a young black male in the back, who posed no treat to the public. After approaching him on a bus stop, while on his way home.”

A growing number of citizens in Chicago’s Black and minority communities feel-This department has many officers will go through any means to cover their tracks, when they have taken human life.” Going forward the only stopping block for this seemingly routine killing to end is a well-informed public, who will rise up-and who will say, we are tired of our children’s lives being taken, no more lies, and justice for the lost lives, has to come swift, fast, and certain.” We call for the immediate arrest of the officers involved!

The question, to our Chicago Mayor and his The Police Chief now is: when will you reframe and get pass the public discourse about the communities deep distrust of the CPD- since the release of the Laquan McDonald shooting video, several serious, questionable shootings have occurred? The Black community of Chicagoland-feels vulnerable, we feel unprotected, and is the message now being sent to the CPD-that our protection has to come from us, because you won’t do it.” As it stands our protection seems to end on the borders of the downtown business district. If that’s the case that is tragic!

Gregg L Greer President of Freedom First International -(Southern Christian Leadership Conference-Chicago)

We call on Chicago Civic Leaders, Faith Leadership, Social Justice Activist, and concerned citizens-to follow and accept the “clarion call for November 26, 2016 2:00 pm (copy-face event invite below). We all must constantly respond to this type of call for aid. We should never again accept narrow, provincial “outside agitator” idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.
