The boy was later identified as Laquan Allen Ward, lived about 2 miles away in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

GUNCD

When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. And, when criminals can buy weapons without having their backgrounds checked, we suffer from a modern plague.

This Vigil will be part of our early effort to “Prevent the critical Issue of Gun Violence” for 2017 in areas in Chicago where this plague is taking young lives in abundance. (This corner is where a three year old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in an apparent accident.) The goal is to stop unnecessary loss of life!

WHY: The issue of gun violence — more specifically, Chicago’s gun violence — is by no means a new issue. However, President Trump has singled out the city, even threatening to send in the federal troops, as a part of his “law and order” campaign. The current discourse coming from the White House focuses on more police, more prison and increased criminalization of Black and Latino communities as a solution. Unfortunately, this narrative of retribution fully incorporates the Fraternal Order of Police viewpoint without considering the concerns of the community.

For Immediate Release: Chicago Activist and Civil Rights Leadership will stand and rally after police fatally shot 19 year old African American in the back

(District 7-Police Station)

 ***** Media Advisory *****

Hundreds of Activist will stand and rally today Nov. 26, 2016-Police fatally shot 19 year old African American Male-Kajuan Raye. In an unfortunate, tragic, and unclear set of circumstances the black teenager was shot in the back and killed by a Chicago police officer in the city’s South Side on the night before Thanksgiving. Kajuan Raye was waiting to take the bus home when he was approached by the officer, who claims he matched the description of a suspect in a ‘battery in progress’ on Wednesday night. Raye began to run away and the officer chased after him, according to authorities.

The sergeant claimed Raye turned and pointed a weapon at him ‘on two separate occasions during the pursuit’, so he fired multiple shots at the suspect.

Also please note: the circumstances of the shooting are being investigated. Raye was struck and killed. Police have yet to find any weapon despite searching the area overnight, according to CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

‘We were not able to locate a weapon as of yet, Johnson said on Thursday.

Raye’s family is “heartbroken that their son is dead at the hands of a police officer who does not value the sanctity of life of black males,” the statement reads. “As a city we continue to struggle with police who are afraid of and have deep seeded prejudices against black youth.

Statement From Freedom First International

“The murder of Kajuan Raye is further indication of a Police Department who appear, is in the wrong, facts show that they-shot a young black male in the back, who posed no treat to the public. After approaching him on a bus stop, while on his way home.”

A growing number of citizens in Chicago’s Black and minority communities feel-This department has many officers will go through any means to cover their tracks, when they have taken human life.” Going forward the only stopping block for this seemingly routine killing to end is a well-informed public, who will rise up-and who will say, we are tired of our children’s lives being taken, no more lies, and justice for the lost lives, has to come swift, fast, and certain.” We call for the immediate arrest of the officers involved!

The question, to our Chicago Mayor and his The Police Chief now is: when will you reframe and get pass the public discourse about the communities deep distrust of the CPD- since the release of the Laquan McDonald shooting video, several serious, questionable shootings have occurred? The Black community of Chicagoland-feels vulnerable, we feel unprotected, and is the message now being sent to the CPD-that our protection has to come from us, because you won’t do it.” As it stands our protection seems to end on the borders of the downtown business district. If that’s the case that is tragic!

Gregg L Greer President of Freedom First International -(Southern Christian Leadership Conference-Chicago)

We call on Chicago Civic Leaders, Faith Leadership, Social Justice Activist, and concerned citizens-to follow and accept the “clarion call for November 26, 2016 2:00 pm (copy-face event invite below). We all must constantly respond to this type of call for aid. We should never again accept narrow, provincial “outside agitator” idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.

***** Media Advisory *****

Hundreds of Activist Leading Social Justice organizations will stand and rally because on Nov. 5, 2016-Police fatally shot 25 year old African American Male-Joshua Beal, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana. In an unfortunate, tragic, and unclear set of circumstances Beal was in town following a funeral procession of a cousin as pallbearer. Near 111th Street and Troy Avenue -Joshua Beal while still in the procession of cars-stopped in front of a firehouse on 111th Street, and blocked the entrance; a confrontation soon started, according to prosecutors records, that ended in a physical altercation between multiple individuals which included Beal. When Beal, who police said “allegedly,” then displayed a gun-and was shot multiple times by an off duty police who intervened once he saw the fight.

Also please note: the circumstances of the shooting are currently being investigated. What happens next would seen to many to also be unfortunate. Beal’s grieving family had “Ni**gers Go Home” and “Keep out of Our Town” screamed at them as they waited at a local Burger King for their cars to be released by the police. In the days after, protesters/activist who went to the scene were met by white mobs of hundreds who DNAinfo described as “demonstrators supporting police.”When the activist on the ground wanted to “peacefully” protest Beal’s- Shooting and also to give voice to address what they feel were questionable circumstances-they were met with bats, Racial hatred and large crowds many, “self identifying” as Blue Lives Matters Crowds. The statement below was taken from a Stop Mass Incarceration Network (rev.com)-spokeswoman:

N….gers Go Home!”, “Go Back to Englewood! “ and other vile racist threats were shouted at us from the mob of hundreds of white people surrounding the revcoms and other activists in Mt Greenwood Sunday .Some shouted out that they were friends and family of police. I expect many were off-duty cops. Mt Greenwood is home to many white police and firefighters. The police murder of Jason Beal was a lynching. This crowd was like a lynch mob of old.It made me think of footage I had seen of the racists attacking the Freedom Riders in the 1960’s or Marquette Park here in Chicago. But this was yesterday.. They also shouted “Trump, Trump. Trump” and “CPD, CPD, CPD.” Dee Williams, Revolution Club, Chicago

What must be done

We believe-That this is one occasion where it must-clear that words, prayers, and protest are not enough to stop the “long-term,” tension, and violence between police officers, community members, African Americans and other minorities who interact in this community. All across Chicago today, there must be condemnations, not just as a community but as a city for ending hate. We should never accept acts of hate, intimidation, and violence anywhere anytime against anyone for any reason. Across Chicago, the call for action “Now,” is clear. There are those in the community who stand against racial hate, then they should join as well. We will also question the fire department’s and police departments top brass who live in the community to answer to call against turmoil and violence and leave room for correction where diversity and values are upheld.

What should be the correct response from The Mayor

My concern is for the Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emmanuel to seriously question his leadership- In Mt.Greenwood- what’s really being done Mayor to prevent a looming “race war.” Many believe if the City of Chicago would have dealt with this Harassment, Racial Discrimination, excessive force issue a long time ago, we wouldn’t have an issue today.

(Over 200 Activist expected be on Hand)

We call on Chicago Civic Leaders, Faith Leadership, Social Justice Activist, and concerned citizens-to follow and accept the “clarion call for November 20, 2016 2:00 pm (copy-face event invite below) but more basically, Mt. Greenwood is a problem because of the long-term racial injustice is there. We all must constantly respond to this type of call for aid. We should never again accept narrow, provincial “outside agitator” idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.

For Immediate Release: Community Activist Leadership to hold Press Conference/ Are preparing Legal Battle against Mayor Rahm Emanuel for misuse of public funds and his position.

(Press Conference-at City Hall-2rd Floor  )

 ***** Media Advisory *****

A press conference to Chicago lay out the case against Mayor Rahm Emanuel usage city funds to pay off nonprofits, faith leaders, community activist, and social justice workers “as if those funds were his special personal slush fund.” In the wake of the Laquan McDonald shooting fallout- Rahm Emanuel’s effort was coordinated to quiet any opposition that directly resulted with Emanuel trying to turn around all negativity and harm done to his looming political image in the wake of the McDonald shooting and also growing public disapproval ratings—In addition to growing citizen mistrust in the Chicago police stands out amongst other major problems that Rahm tried to quell-which ignited his misuse of public funds.

The activist investigating the issue, seriously question if the local community is aware of the selfish and disturbing use of diverted City of Chicago funds by the Chicago Mayor. The funds in question under normal circumstances should have been used for awarding independent non-profits and civic organizations primarily to better the city through scholarships and city programs.

Many who understand that the established culture at Chicago City Hall- under Emanuel has long been able to avoid real accountability — and also we should mention Emanuel’s avoidance of sworn depositions — because City Hall bureaucrats, like those in the Chicago Police Department, continue to operate under the unwritten policies protection of policies, practices and legal standards aimed to shield the Mayor from potential harm.

For our effort-more specifically-they we want to send a clear message, that simple says, “we still haven’t forgotten, and we are prepared for a legal show down.” Leading Social Justice organizations involved are Chicago Violence Interrupters, Freedom First International, The Chicago SCLC, Tree of Life Justice League of IL along with a growing list others. Join us!

For Immediate Release:

Break Every Chain-National Day of Action/ Ongoing-effort to combat Chicago Police Brutality
(Press Conference at CPD Headquarters 3510 S. Michigan Chicago)

***** Media Advisory *****
8/4/16
Chicago, IL

A Press Conference is scheduled in Chicago on Friday 8-5-16 at CPD Headquarters Station on 3510 South Michigan in Chicago at 8:00 am. Expect announcements. Members of The Midwest Coalition for Social Justice and Peace Freedom First International, including The Violence Interrupters, and Southern Christian Leadership Conference-Chicago and others.

Locally: The group also plans to address opinions concerning the most recent the Police Brutality Case=where community outrage is currently growing after Chicago police shot an 18-year-old man, Paul O’Neal, as he was in a car that drove away from a traffic stop. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that O’Neal was shot in the back. Also for local Mention will be the growing community violence statistics. As well as ongoing issues with CPD reform. We also plan to touch base on the local effort to fight against the recently proposed Chicago Blue Lives Matters Ordinance.

Nationally: In Chicago, Atlanta and Texas and a growing list other cities_on Saturday August 6, 2016 staring 12:00 Noon-people in various communities will find a Department of Justice or a police station or other option. To issue a National Day of Action where (organizations) are saying the Justice Department has to admit that it’s experiment in refusal to prosecute the “Bad Cops’” who have killed innocent civilians is leading to a National crisis. The Department of Justice better known as the D.O.J has failed. In the Aftermath-The results equal the death of accountability, of justice, and of deterrence. The result is a wave of crime against civilians in which these murderers continue to harm the public and further inaction from the D.O.J will only increase these crimes.

DOJ

Many believe, The U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch and the courts cannot continue to ignore the fact that we (community) need policy emphasizing efforts to prosecute bad cops and the refusal is causing a national epidemic. So on August 6, 2016 from 11:00 am until (most locations will do a moment of silence) – coalition members and the public will take matters into our own hands. We move! We Break Every Chain! Police Brutality, Department of Justice, Political and any source of oppression to our people.

Members included are: Freedom First International, The Violence Interrupters, and members of Southern Christian Leadership Conference as well as multiple organizations and groups abroad will be present to stand up and insist on changing the landscape of our civil rights around our country-How it works is simple- On August 6-7, Find a D.O.J Office, meeting place, and a Police Station in your area and stand in solidarity!

The ongoing protests in communities around the country have ignited a national conversation about the persistent and widespread pattern of racially discriminatory treatment by police across the United States, including unjustified stops and searches, ill treatment and excessive, and sometimes lethal, use of force.

According to an ongoing petition from Amnesty International:

The U.S. government must do more to ensure policing practices nationwide are brought into line with international human rights standards, including the use of lethal force, and to address systemic racial discrimination. The Department of Justice has failed to collect accurate, comprehensive national data on police use of force, including the numbers of people killed or injured through police shootings or other types of force.
