GUNCD

When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. And, when criminals can buy weapons without having their backgrounds checked, we suffer from a modern plague.

This Vigil will be part of our early effort to “Prevent the critical Issue of Gun Violence” for 2017 in areas in Chicago where this plague is taking young lives in abundance. (This corner is where a three year old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in an apparent accident.) The goal is to stop unnecessary loss of life!

WHY: The issue of gun violence — more specifically, Chicago’s gun violence — is by no means a new issue. However, President Trump has singled out the city, even threatening to send in the federal troops, as a part of his “law and order” campaign. The current discourse coming from the White House focuses on more police, more prison and increased criminalization of Black and Latino communities as a solution. Unfortunately, this narrative of retribution fully incorporates the Fraternal Order of Police viewpoint without considering the concerns of the community.

For Immediate Release: Chicago Activist and Civil Rights Leadership will stand and rally police fatally shot 25 year old African American Male-Joshua Beal and also in opposition to Racism in Chicago’s Mt.Greenwood community (111th Kedzie )

(111th Kedzie )

***** Media Advisory *****

Hundreds of Activist Leading Social Justice organizations will stand and rally because on Nov. 5, 2016-Police fatally shot 25 year old African American Male-Joshua Beal, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana. In an unfortunate, tragic, and unclear set of circumstances Beal was in town following a funeral procession of a cousin as pallbearer. Near 111th Street and Troy Avenue -Joshua Beal while still in the procession of cars-stopped in front of a firehouse on 111th Street, and blocked the entrance; a confrontation soon started, according to prosecutors records, that ended in a physical altercation between multiple individuals which included Beal. When Beal, who police said “allegedly,” then displayed a gun-and was shot multiple times by an off duty police who intervened once he saw the fight.

Also please note: the circumstances of the shooting are currently being investigated. What happens next would seen to many to also be unfortunate. Beal’s grieving family had “Ni**gers Go Home” and “Keep out of Our Town” screamed at them as they waited at a local Burger King for their cars to be released by the police. In the days after, protesters/activist who went to the scene were met by white mobs of hundreds who DNAinfo described as “demonstrators supporting police.”When the activist on the ground wanted to “peacefully” protest Beal’s- Shooting and also to give voice to address what they feel were questionable circumstances-they were met with bats, Racial hatred and large crowds many, “self identifying” as Blue Lives Matters Crowds. The statement below was taken from a Stop Mass Incarceration Network (rev.com)-spokeswoman:

N….gers Go Home!”, “Go Back to Englewood! “ and other vile racist threats were shouted at us from the mob of hundreds of white people surrounding the revcoms and other activists in Mt Greenwood Sunday .Some shouted out that they were friends and family of police. I expect many were off-duty cops. Mt Greenwood is home to many white police and firefighters. The police murder of Jason Beal was a lynching. This crowd was like a lynch mob of old.It made me think of footage I had seen of the racists attacking the Freedom Riders in the 1960’s or Marquette Park here in Chicago. But this was yesterday.. They also shouted “Trump, Trump. Trump” and “CPD, CPD, CPD.” Dee Williams, Revolution Club, Chicago

What must be done

We believe-That this is one occasion where it must-clear that words, prayers, and protest are not enough to stop the “long-term,” tension, and violence between police officers, community members, African Americans and other minorities who interact in this community. All across Chicago today, there must be condemnations, not just as a community but as a city for ending hate. We should never accept acts of hate, intimidation, and violence anywhere anytime against anyone for any reason. Across Chicago, the call for action “Now,” is clear. There are those in the community who stand against racial hate, then they should join as well. We will also question the fire department’s and police departments top brass who live in the community to answer to call against turmoil and violence and leave room for correction where diversity and values are upheld.

What should be the correct response from The Mayor

My concern is for the Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emmanuel to seriously question his leadership- In Mt.Greenwood- what’s really being done Mayor to prevent a looming “race war.” Many believe if the City of Chicago would have dealt with this Harassment, Racial Discrimination, excessive force issue a long time ago, we wouldn’t have an issue today.

(Over 200 Activist expected be on Hand)

We call on Chicago Civic Leaders, Faith Leadership, Social Justice Activist, and concerned citizens-to follow and accept the “clarion call for November 20, 2016 2:00 pm (copy-face event invite below) but more basically, Mt. Greenwood is a problem because of the long-term racial injustice is there. We all must constantly respond to this type of call for aid. We should never again accept narrow, provincial “outside agitator” idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.

Who is God’s Candidate

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016
gods-elected-final
Many years ago I ran for a city council seat in Charlotte, NC -The sad fact of the matter was, as a person of faith-I felt conflicted by some of the items that were on the agenda to be voted on. As the election progressed-I was challenged on most days to come away knowing how to make votes count where it counts most: This is in God’s eyes! My guess the vital question of the hour is how should Christians approach elections when there is no nominee to feel good about?—when all the options seem bad, and the best many us can do is choose the least bad of the bunch?

While this is a lesson- I won’t tell you how to vote, I will show you attributes to look for in leaders, making connections between public officeholders and the Bible that may surprise you. It’s biblical truth about the character qualities God blesses in government officials—truth that citizens and their leaders mostly ignore at their own peril.

God Candidate Quality 1-Have Faith!

Simply put, the “elect of God” are those whom God has predestined to salvation. They are called the “elect” because that word denotes the concept of choosing. Every four years in the U.S., we “elect” a President—i.e., we choose who will serve in that office. The same goes for God and those who will be saved; God chooses those who will be saved. These are the elect of God.

The second main view is the Augustinian view, which essentially teaches that God not only divinely elects those who have faith in Christ, but God also divinely elects to grant to these individuals who have the faith to believe. In other words, God’s election unto salvation is not based on an individual’s foreknowledge, but it is based on how strong is an individual’s desire for salvation is. The ultimate winner of this election is the free, sovereign grace of Almighty God and in time people will come to understand faith in Christ because most will understand God has elected them.

God Candidate Quality 2-Our Motivation is focused

The ultimate question that we are presented with- What is our motivation focused on; God or man? In the first view (the prescient view), man has total control; man’s free will is sovereign and becomes the determining factor in earthly matters such as a political election. If we provide a God centered factor, then we understand in the end God can provide the way of making salvation real. Ultimately, this view enhances the biblical understanding of God’s true sovereignty. This view puts the Creator’s provision of salvation at the mercy of the creature; the reality of this view if God wants people in heaven, He has to hope that man will freely choose His way of salvation. In reality, the prescient view of election is no view of election at all, because God is not really choosing—He is only confirming. But, it is man who is the ultimate chooser.

God Candidate Quality 3-Solidarity with Principle

malcolm-x

“The Ballot or the Bullet -1964 (below), Minister Malcolm X advocates fighting for racial, economic, and social justice on all fronts, and he does not want religion to stand in the way of justice.  He noted that many preachers, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are most known for their work for justice—not their religious vocations.  X contends that Islam is his personal business.  He finds that religious differences can hinder solidarity.  X calls for keeping religion private: it should be between the person and his or her God.

It is obvious that-The speech champions Black nationalism as the key to Black economic and social progression.

Malcolm X encourages Black people to join churches and organizations that promote Black uplift, and he warns them about Black churches and organizations that promote White nationalism. Churches and organizations employing separatism can be recognized by their espousal of things counterproductive to Black uplift and solidarity. The main point of X’s speech is most people understand that our desire for satisfaction always dictates the direction of our lives–whether it be the hunger of our stomachs, the desire for material wealth or prestige, or the longings of our spirits for God. But for Christian Communities around the world, the hunger for anything outside of the will and direction of God can be an enemy-this includes the direction of those we elect.

While our hunger for God–and Him alone–is the only thing that will always bring life’s victory overall. If we are to understand how the issue that affects our leadership, we must understand how to 1) first Recognize the core of the problem, and 2) secondly we need to understand why, the problem with leadership exist, one rational to consider is people’s “questionable,” Hunger for change.

Who is God’s candidate-Bringing it home

If were are to answer the question who are “Urban Christian leaders,” or “God’s elected,” then many agree with the statement, when we say-they must be determined to demonstrate their engagement in the community and how to lead their people in essential ‘hope messages,’ in order to secure the word of truth in the presence of hardship.
At first, that may mean slower faith extension, but at some point the very declaration of the church is promoting a true community in the midst of tribalism, which may be the spiritual indication of God in which renders hope for the dying urban city.

What you and I should want (need) the people at home to think about during this  election season is that when times are tough ,and people are frustrated and angry and hurting and uncertain, the politics of constant conflict may feel like a remedy. This does not necessarily work in the real world. Definitely, what works in the real world is cooperation. Tomorrows Urban Christian Leaders must understand with clarity that what works in the real world is cooperation, business and government, foundations and universities all the same. Our communities lack collaboration, and teamwork-to the level that only ‘true leadership” can bring.

Pastor Gregg L Greer, President of Freedom First International

We have to inspire a New American Citizen in urban communities who believes with no doubt that we can build the “American Dream,” with real opportunities accompanied by fundamental fairness for all and even for poor folks to work their way into it. The first order must be of principle and zeal for anyone God elected, but it has to begin and end by seeking the will of God not man. With that in mind good luck with this election season. In any case we are calling people of faith to stand up and be accountable to yourself, the secular world, and ultimately God! When the faithful stand up-then we all will instantly see the change because we now have amidst us God’s elected working on our behalf.  (glg)

Peace, and Honor!

For Immediate Release: Community Leadership to hold Press Conference outside of the University of Chicago to Call Chicago Violence a Public Health Epidemic (Crisis)

Posted on Updated on

(Press Conference-at U of C call for action )

breaking_news

***** Media Advisory *****

For those who live in Chicagoland and surrounding communities-official efforts to change the underlying conditions that contribute to violence—in homes, schools, and neighborhoods have largely failed as we now reach and surpass historical levels of homicides.  There is a strong and growing base, grounded in research and experiential evidence (practitioner and community wisdom) that supports this fact. A group of community leaders and activist will hold a press conference tomorrow at the University of Chicago because they believe  that violence is preventable, not inevitable- if the correct tools and resources are in place. More specifically, The community knows what it takes to prevent violence.

Coming off of a violent Memorial Day weekend, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson did strike a similar theme in a speech to the City Club of Chicago, bemoaning the senselessness of all the shootings, the department’s fractured relationship with the community and the broken judicial system that is too much a revolving door for the most dangerous criminals. Johnson also lamented a gang culture that sinks its hooks into youngsters in Chicago’s most dangerous neighborhoods “almost at birth,” he said.”So by the time they’re 12, their destiny is set,” he told a few hundred civic leaders. “It’s either prison or death.”

Recognizing violence as a crucial prevention issue for health and equity,  an organization comprised of activist, community organizers, and leaders-all who already have made a major commitment to helping city devise comprehensive plans and strategies for reducing and preventing violence are calling for their effort to categorize Violence as a Public health epidemic will catalyze national momentum. They intend to launch their efforts by asking for support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The University of Chicago, and other major public institutions. Leading Social Justice organizations involved are Chicago Violence Interrupters, Freedom First International, The Chicago SCLC, along with a growing list others. In addition the group will announce further efforts to organize around this effort, as well as a online public petition.
