Why are Christians Persecuted in the Church

Recently When Dylann Roof (pictured, below) allegedly opened fire at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina it was an act of terror of the kind that happens all too often in black houses of worship. Roof has been charged with shooting and killing nine people, including senior pastor of the church and South Carolina state Sen. Clementa Pinckney.

The article that follows explores the history of persecution of the early church, some of the reasons behind it, and two important questions that we must raise with Christian responses to persecution: the glorification of persecution in the church, and why would anyone what to hurt Christians?

In the first few centuries of Christianity

In the first few centuries of Christianity, the church endured regular (though not constant) persecution at the hands of Roman authorities. This experience, is so deeply rooted in legacy of the church that it resulted in the multiple stories of martyrs and apologists, that today we know these stories as The Gospel, which is the foundation that Christians base their core beliefs on-in addition to having other significant historical and theological consequences for the developing our faith.

Level, amount and  Persecutions

According to historical record-The total number of Christians martyred in the early church is unknown. Although some early writers speak of “great “modern scholars tend to believe the actual number is not so great as is sometimes imagined. Out of the 54 emperors who ruled between 30 and 311 AD, only about a dozen went out of their way to persecute Christians.

Early_persecution_of_christian by Nero
Early_persecution_of_christian by Nero

It has been calculated that between the first persecution under Nero in 64 to the Edict of Milan in 313, Christians experienced 129 years of persecution and 120 years of toleration and peace.

The Roman persecutions were generally sporadic, localized, and dependent on the political climate and disposition of each emperor. Moreover, imperial decrees against Christians were often directed against church property, the Scriptures, or clergy only. It has been estimated that more Christians have been martyred in the last 50 years than in the church’s first 300 years.

Why is the Christian Church Persecuted

If we look at history we would see- In order to understand the distrust of Christianity, one can review and understand the Early Roman view of religion. For the Romans, religion was first and foremost a social activity that promoted unity and loyalty to the state – a religious attitude the Romans called pietas, or piety.

Marcus Tullius Cicero (January 106 BC – 7 December 43 BC)
Marcus Tullius Cicero (January 106 BC – 7 December 43 BC)

Cicero (pictured, right) wrote that “if piety in the Roman sense were to disappear, social unity and justice would perish along with it.”

The truth is at its core, the church is one giant social network. It exists as an intricate, but totally connected community. Even more important, many Christians believe that God is working within this network himself. Devotion to Jesus has been a large part of the African-American experience. The black church has been and continues to be a powerful force in the African-American community.

In the United States, Christians reacted to slavery in a substantially different way. While there was vocal Christian protest against the slave trade and much of the abolitionist movement was spear-headed by Christian people, there were also many Christians who defended slavery. The issue of slavery grew more divisive, and eventually most of the major Protestant denominations divided over the issue. This actually set the stage for the Civil War.

Another major example of Christian Persecution was The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing (below) was an act of white supremacist terrorism that occurred at the African-American 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, September 15, 1963, when four members of the Ku Klux Klan planted a minimum of 15 sticks of dynamite attached to a timing device beneath the front steps of the church.

Described by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as “one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetrated against humanity,” the explosion at the church killed four girls and injured 22 others.

What can we do in an effort of prevention

With structural racism the global issues are deep rooted worldwide. While the issues seem to become more pronounced everyday making this tragedy about religion instead of race allows many others  to avoid discussions about how their positions vis a vis race and government tend to reenforce rather than dismantle the structural racism still present in our society today. On a more social, practical level, Christians are distrusted by extreme mist organizations in part because of the nature of their worship.

In any case, it is sad that such experiences ever occur, because the church is an indispensable part of the believer’s life. Not only does it provide a place to worship, serve and learn about God, but it is also a community where believers can practice love toward their brethren as the Bible requires; “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

These tools extend fellowship beyond the church walls and stretch it around the world are needed as They help us fulfill Jesus’ command to Peter, which still echoes for us today: “Put out into deep water” (Luke 5:4). GLG

Why the State of Ohio cannot say it has not played a part in the Murder of Tamir Rice, John Crawford and others. Part 1

This week would have been the 13th Birthday of Tamir Rice. As a public awareness, we as the editorial (oneworld01.com) felt it necessary to discuss (in a series), Why the state of Ohio cannot say it has not played a part in the Murder of Tamir Rice, John  Crawford and others. In this series we want help communities understand the complexities of these two high-profile cases and then we hope to bring Change-Stand with Us! As we release an article every week.
__
Ohio Governor John Kasich
Ohio Governor John Kasich
Last Fall when the 69th Governor of Ohio, Republican John Kasich who had been in office since 2011, announced a new police standards board to address the use of deadly force by officers, most believe that it was sparked in part by the death of Tamir Rice. At the time Governor Kasich, said “more action needs to be taken to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.”  According to reports, Kasich then spoke of bridging the “gap” between law enforcement and the black community with this new board. The board aimed to lay out clear and unambiguous guidelines for when it’s acceptable for officers to use deadly force against suspects.
__
But within the 2 seconds after Tamir Rice was killed he (Tamir) then became another “Public Police Killing in Ohio. Afterward many locals believed that Governor John Kasich, then used the BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) as a proxy cover-up to give the appearance of outward action. Instead, The BCI acted negatively by blocking outside investigations and stonewalling the press. Judging from the research conducted by surveys of many locals-it was concluded that BCI was largely ineffective, and nothing notable has ever came out of the BCI Board except more public distrust.
Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.
Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.

Many Ohio locals believe blame should be directed at the BCI because in their words BCI is also largely responsible for the Whitewashing of the murder of John Crawford in a Walmart store in Beavercreek Ohio. In this situation Police were determined to kill a guy with a gun. Crawford was a 22-year-old African-American man shot to death by Beavercreek police officer Sean Williams, while holding a toy BB gun.  Police did not respond to an active shooter situation in either case and in both cases they killed young black men. On the positive side-As the public becomes more aware of both cases we are seeing support from notable people, one example “My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people,” said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins (picture below).

"My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people," said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins
My wearing of the T-shirt was a stance against wrong individuals doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason to innocent people,” said Browns receiver Andrew Hawkins

In short, Governor Kasich’s action or lack thereof has made balancing the scales to bring justice to booth cases act even more difficult. He apparently has his own very strongly held, views on just how this thing ought to be handled. The Governor’s position as the lead executive of Ohio can be a resource and real instrument for change, if he truly wanted.

If there was a way of communicating with Governor Kasich- one position that he could take that would be sensible is to make Public statements that support reform- this alone would make a difference. There’s no reason why—that I can see—why, circumstances, terms and conditions that any of these simple suggestions couldn’t be worked out.

Governor Kasich needs to be held accountable for his weak Civil Rights Policy

Governor Kasich has also is launching what many feel will most likely be an unsuccessful bid for the US presidency on platforms that opposed the expansion of federal power and appeal to white populist sentiments. During each election cycle, he modified his racial views to suit the times. Despite his support for road construction, education, and industrial development,  Kasich is known for his soft resistance to civil rights, limited economic vision, failure to reform the tax code, and total focus on campaigning, at the expense of running the state. Contact Governor Kasich to tell him-Stand Up for Justice!

One other suggestion is that all investigations of local police homicides should be surrendered to an outside independent agency with Federal Government Influence, once done we could see far fewer “justified” tragedies. In any case – We need the Ohio Governor’s Office to propose true legislation itself will protect its citizens and not enable anyone to discriminate against anyone else, with no fear of government intervention or punishment. We need to send a clear message that “no one is above the law.” Simple communication from inside the community may greatly help attention to booth cases.

September 11, 2001-A Day of Remembrance

Posted on Updated on

(One World) Thought of the Day

images

On this day 13 years ago many thousands of innocent people lost their lives due to someone’s evil expression of hate. We as a people must remember all those we lost and we must now allow their legacy to motivate our desire for a better world. Organized Love will always win over concentrated hate. Just as true brotherhood will always win over separatism. Peace, Love and tolerance toward another human being is no longer a choice, we must make this our lifestyle.

Abraham Lincoln said, “We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection

In communities, around the world this must be a core message.

A Letter to the Grand Wizard of the KKK-Concerning Statements of Mike Brown’s Killing

Thomas Robb, also known as Thom Robb, is the national director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
Thomas Robb, also known as Thom Robb, is the national director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

On August 24, 2014 Thomas Robb KKK or Klu Klux Klan National Director posted a disgusting story called, Goodbye Mike Brown – Hello White Genocide  concerning The Mike Brown Shooting on the KKK website. The page began by stating, ” Mike Brown’s parents blame institutional racism for the death of their son, perhaps they should point the finger back at themselves.” This move has caused a major stink, amongst civil rights advocates and amounts to big problems for Robb.  (First, a history and  some additional background on Thomas Robb)

Thomas Robb is an Arkansas-based “alleged”  (as he fashions himself as a Christian Identity Pastor) in addition to being the head of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which he took over in the 1980s after the departure of David Duke-who was his mentor-Robb took over leadership of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

In His Own Words:

“When the Negro was under the natural discipline of white authority, white people were safe from the abuse and violence of the Negro, but the Negro was also safe from himself.”
 – Editorial in The Torch, April 1990
Rather than the traditional title of “Imperial Wizard,” Robb opted for the less-charged “National Director.” Robb took up Duke’s strategy of using the Internet to reach a wider audience, giving the false appearance of an explosion in Klan growth. Robb also attempted to start a family oriented Klan camp, aimed at creating a “kinder, gentler” image for the  Klan.

According to data from Southern Poverty Law Center In the aftermath of President Obama’s election in 2008, Robb characterized what he saw as a “race war … between our people, who I see as the rightful owners and leaders of this great country, and their people, the blacks.”

According to the Thomas Robb Ministries website, “We believe that the Anglo-Saxon, Germanic, Scandinavian, and kindred people are The people of the Bible – God’s separated and anointed Israel.” The statement goes on to declare, “Our people must … resist the call of Satan, which the Bible says will come disguised as light and love … brotherly – interracial love.”

More About the Article

According to recent article written in the Huffington Post by  Eternity E. Martis Huffington Post Lifestyle writer, blogger, mixed-race feminist,  “What happened to Michael Brown at the hands of a white police officer is a deep-seated fear of a never-ending nightmare for the entire Black community, especially for Black men. Due to an unfortunate stain on our history, Black men are so often rendered inferior in all totality, demonized by the myth of the brute, Black rapist, or the uneducated thug deserving of death. And while these Black men whether they are North American or from across the globe hold the tremendous burden of being feared and spurned by society, so do the women who love them.”

Rachel Pendergraft KKK Leader, and Daughter of Robb Thomas-who actually wrote the article-stated, “I’m sick and tired of hearing about the crime in majority black areas.  Maybe if they would stop harassing hard-working cops who try to keep their neighborhoods safe instead of playing the race card all the time, they wouldn’t  find themselves victims of black on black crime.  Even black cops know what problem is, if they are honest enough to admit it.  All anyone wants is for them to act – well, civilized.  Is that too much to ask?  But then again, its racist to ask them to live up to a certain standard – so we’re told.” (Rachel Pendergraft / Knights Party)

In a recent interview Mark Pitcavage, the director of investigative research for the Anti-Defamation League, calls this extremism.  He characterizes the  Klan as “group of hard-core whites.”  According to Mark in a recent interview from CNN-The current Klan is not one cohesive group, and is considered one of the traditional white supremacist groups, which emerged in the civil rights era.

According to Pitcavage “The situation that existed in the 1950s and ’60s simply does not exist. The white supremacists are no longer in charge. They are now fighting for the very survival of the white race, and they have to fight to protect,” said Pitcavage. “This is a fundamental difference of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1950s and today in the 21st century.”

Black Life Matters!

After reading the KKK article, I realized that I heard of Thomas Robb, from my past when dealing with a Klan issue in South Carolina. In any event-I felt it was my duty to write Robb Thomas, as a Man, as a Christian Man and A Strong African-American Man.

In America-Any of our 18-year old children should not have to fear fighting back because they fear getting shot or killed. These are not Black children, these are our children and know, the issue is the same even if it’s happening amongst white, Asian, or Black Kids-innocent human life was lost-period!  The sad part is that many African-Americans now believe their children stand a greater chance of death, because of the unfortunate situation with Brown and others. I must say, I’m inclined to agree. I must add-Black Life Matters!  and All Life Matters!

My Editorial Letter to Grand Wizard Robb Thomas

National Director of The Knights, Pastor Thomas Robb

PO Box 2222, Harrison, AR 72601

Mr. Thomas Robb

After reading about your allowing a character assassination of Mike Brown based on a recent article Stop White Genocide-I’m Outraged! Where is the outrage? Because of the high level of ignorance you have displayed concerning the death of an innocent young black man.

For many years you (KKK) have worked in darkness, ruthlessly, and shamefully. You have killed and attacked my people unsuspected (when their backs were turned) and wrongly, and with a sustained satanic evil at every level. In convert (not openly)- you have built jails, prisons, courtrooms and police departments. Have you no Shame! The world will never believe in you simply because for years you have operated with such a mundane, unsophisticated, unintelligent level.

Maybe in the 1920’s, 1930’s. Your Klan like violence was successfully used to control our social behavior, but still with little success. Black churches and schools were burned, teachers and children were attacked, and my people who refused to show proper deference were beaten and killed. But know this, “Black America has fought their attackers, rebuilt their churches and schools, and shot back during attacks on their communities.” While these attacks surely terrorized some, you have failed to destroy the Spiritual, cultural, and Social independence that Blacks, Latino’s, and minorities are gaining every day in our modern times.

As a Christian Pastor my people do not believe any of this hype, (never will). This Racist Propaganda written so as to try to incite young Black males, I warn you; you will only evoke us into more positive action. Every time we hear of your rallies, or see your racist literature-it does nothing but let us know that you still haven’t gotten there, also you have yet to learn the lessons afforded to you by history. Your vision of an Aryan White Nation is a mere “fantasy,” that never existed, never will! Many of your Aryan Brotherhood don’t believe in your cause that is exactly why they hide behind those sheets. They are not going to tell you this, because “openness,” is not their style.

Really what matters in the end is not what we do in good times but instead what we do when we fall short.  In this case, putting a group of people into a box based on cultural upbringing or race box is disgraceful and then putting a “Ku Klux Klan” label on is more disgraceful.  Do the right thing, Mr. Robb, apologize and take back your statement.  Most of us are good, decent, hard-working God-loving people who love our families and, regardless of how we live, we want a good life not just for us, but for everybody and we want to live in a country where our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms remain intact, without having to turn a street corner and then have our children slaughtered like livestock solely because of the color of his/her skin.

The venomous hatred that has been fueling the riots in Ferguson and the character assassination of Wilson is just a moment in time, “If you think you have problems with minorities now, just wait until we are the majority.”  Well, that day is fast approaching and when it happens yes, it will happen fast-“there will be no hills for you to run and hide.”  Already, your racist children are the minority in America and your even in sister white nations.  You can disagree, but the next couple decades will see an unprecedented demographic shift that will make the Ferguson riots seem like a “Sunday,” walk in the park. This warning, will only come once-My compassion is only because I know the serious misjudgment (error) you make that will only bring you pain. For my part-I will debate and educate with you and your people anywhere of choice in America anytime! Black Life Matters! Abandon, this issue, I pray you hear me. Black Life Matters!

Sincerely,

Reverend Gregg L Greer

The KKK article raises an important question: In a time when we already have compounded confusion  =everyday on mainline Cable news we have bad news 24/7 if we so choose, but what’s the psychological impact of all this exposure to tragedy ? Well, as for the KKK, many feel strongly that they’re still horrible racists with a history entrenched in bigotry and hate, so I say, “To hell with ’em.”  Obviously. Activist Prepares for Hunger Strike to Combat Police Brutality, Misconduct and Shootings in California

By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

On May 13, 2014 A California Professor James Cosner will go on a hunger strike “to his death,” according to Cosner and Organizers (CAMPAIGN 4 JUSTICE) as a method of civil disobedience against the State of California in a battle for cause. Cosner’s desire is to bring national attention to the growing stream of violent deaths of many mostly young men (citizens)-the reason given-is the incredibly tragic way many have died (resulting at hands of Police) or better know as “Police Brutality.

Jame.3 (PS)

Although he (Cosner) has not fallen victim to directly to Police Brutality, Cosner though his long-term Social Activism has dedicated his life to the rescinding of unethical social and economic aspects of the Criminal Justice policies in California and abroad. Additionally, Cosner has had dealings with law enforcement, which is not unusual and usually “Power for the Course,” as most advocates consider civil disobedience to be a very successful method of fighting Injustice.

March-against-police-brutality-in-Anaheim

In California,  use of deadly force by police shootings continue to disturb communities. The “Hardest,” demographic base hit are low-income communities and communities of color. Many citizens recognize that no force is exceedingly more explosive and leads to tragedy, more than Police Brutality caused deadly force. Activist believe the multiple cases that most go under  Federal Justice Department scrutiny and investigation concerns are records of police wrongdoing addressed over the last several years, also any inquiries to the United States Attorneys and in addition to The Federal Bureau of Investigation. Activist believe the investigations, must include any/all Police Brutality cases handled solely by local police departments.

David Silva-murdered-by-police in Bakersfield, CA

Cosner’s objection, while timely, is not without merit- to date there are a growing list of examples – one in particular, in Bakersfield California, a 911 caller claimed a, “guy” had been viciously battered to death on one road by eight police officers. The man, who died that evening, was father of four, David Sal Silva, 33. Two eyewitnesses claimed to have recorded videos of the beating on their cell phones, but local police seized the phones.

Kenneth Harding Jr. was gunned down in the Bay Area streets by San Francisco Police for allegedly failing to pay a $2.00 transit fare

It has been two years since Kenneth Harding Jr. was gunned down in the Bay Area streets by San Francisco Police for allegedly failing to pay a $2.00 transit fare. Police later claimed that Kenneth Harding Jr., 19, allegedly shot himself to death during an exchange of gunfire with police as he ran away from two officers who attempted to arrest him for alleged fare avoidance.

With the particular example of Oscar Grant, Officer Johannes Mehserle claimed he mixed his service revolver for his taser. However, for what reason? Would the officer taser Grant in the first place? Grant continued to be restrained, also as he was circled by police officers and lying face-down in cuffs on the Oakland rapid transit platform. Many who know of the incident still question, under which? assumption did Mehserle think of the necessity to use any force at all? Officer Mehserle was eventually convicted in criminal court of involuntary manslaughter but completed less than two years in prison.

Rarely do methods of civil defiance draw the same level of public awareness as a hunger strike. This method has been used around world over to galvanize public support, unite a movement, and draw awareness to issues that under other conditions might go overlooked. What is completely reliant is how long the striker can continue to go without his or her most essential instincts, hunger strikes do not require posters or conference halls or television cameras. It is a method of dissent available to practically anyone, anywhere in the world.

Here is a brief history of more well known-Hunger Strikes. While Cosner has not made himself a comparison to anyone else- Cosner’s Actions are inline in comparison and also in the thoughts and views of many great leaders, examples include;

1. Mohandas Gandhi
An influence for many non-violent peace demonstrations, Gandhi conducted a twenty-one day fast against British control in February 1943. A Separate fast in 1948 concluded after five days, with Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus declaring they would work toward Gandhi’s concept of comprehensive national solidarity.

2. Cesar Chavez
The Latino-American labor movement leader used hunger strikes on various occasions while agitating for farm workers. In 1968, Chavez began a 25-day fast to obtain recognition for the union he helped co-found, the United Farm Workers.

An Irish nationalist died 66 days into a hunger strike in 1981, and likewise Nine hunger strikers died after Sands after necessitating that many Irish Republican Army members were made political prisoners by the British during the unrest. The 27-year-old Sands dropped 60 pounds before he died.

no-justice

As landscape gets denser, more complex, the public outcry from inside California is growing louder, there will be more groups willing to come forward and engage the public, and the ability to undertake collective action. In the political arena, as the protests and demonstrations are increased Cosner and his group of “Freedom Fighters,” can only hope that their coordinated public effort with bring much-needed change.

I am committed to a particular course of action because I believe it to be true, my truth, and if I am wrong then I will take responsibility for being wrong. But, I do not believe that I am wrong.
We do wish for all the Creator’s children to mature, to grow up, to take responsibility, to find integrity, to secure intelligence, and achieve lasting wisdom.

Many would agree, the latest group of civil rights cases at this moment in time seem connected historically to some of the most shameful crimes of the civil rights movement—the murder of four young girls in a Birmingham church bombing, the KKK mob slaying of three civil rights workers in Mississippi during Freedom Summer, the gunning down of Civil Rights Leader Medgar Evers in the presence of his small children, and the torture and killing of 14-year-old Emmett Till—all helped galvanize public opinion in support of the civil rights movement by making it unlikely to ignore the ruthlessness and virulence of the southern racist.

A graphic portrayal of the background of the Ku Klux Klan, its historical association within law enforcement, and the current comparison by many to New York law enforcement lends reason why hate crimes committed by Police cannot be ignored.

Amongst these very atrocities that have graphically exposed the moral destitution of the criminal justice system. The systematic assassination of Ramarley Graham was/has remained broadly unpunished. Many believe the failing is an effect of racism, fear, apathy, and lack of political will. Yes, the normal routine is Tepid investigations and superficial trials take place, and some light prison punishments are given out, but a number of the perpetrators to date have continue to enjoy impunity. Numerous of these killers finished out their days as unrepentant racists. The example of  trends mentioned is classic, and consistent of the Ramarley Graham case.

But in two especially brutal and high-profile murder cases in New York Ramarley Graham and that in California Kenneth Harding Jr.—justice has yet to be fully served.

On Feb. 2, 2012- police from a special narcotics unit chased Graham, 18, from White Plains Road and East 228th Street to his home at 749 E. 229th St. in Wakefield because cops investigating a drug deal believed Graham had a gun in his waistband.Graham was leaving a bodega near his home in the Boro’s Wakefield section when Officers pursued Graham into his home and rather than moving with caution and calling for backup Officer Richard Haste fatally shot the teen in the bathroom but only a small bag of marijuana that investigators hypothesized Ramarley had been attempting to flush down the toilet.

The raid on the family’s home was traumatic; Ramarley’s little brother Chinnor, now 7, was in the house, along with his grandmother, Patricia Hartley, who was taken directly to the NYPD’s 47th Precinct Station House and interrogated for seven hours. Officer Haste later indicated he thought Graham was adjusting a gun in his waistband — but no weapons were found on Graham’s body.

A grand jury  later voted to indict NYPD Officer Richard Haste on manslaughter charges in the February 2012 shooting death of unarmed Bronx teen Ramarley Graham, at which point Haste did turn himself in.

Security footage evidence from the February incident shows 18-year-old Ramarley Graham entering his grandmother’s home and police were following him shortly thereafter. Cops said they had witnessed Graham participate in a drug deal and thought he had a gun. They illegally entered the home without a search warrant.

Still In the presence of overwhelming evidence against Hatse which included CCTV (video)- Judge Steven L. Barrett threw out the indictment against Haste, calling the language used by the District Attorney to present the case to the grand jury “misleading.”

RH

With no great pleasure, I am obliged in this case to dismiss the charges,” Judge Barrett told the court, adding that his ruling did not establish that Haste had acted with justification and that the DA had the right to reconvene a grand jury. Said Judge Steven L. BarrettOn August 7,2013, a reconvened grand jury decided not to re-indict Officer

We are surprised and shocked by the Grand Jury’s finding of no criminal liability in the death of Ramarley Graham. We are saddened for the family of the deceased young man and still believe that the court’s dismissal of the original indictment was overly cautious,” One Observer Johnson said,

Meanwhile Officer Hatse was greeted with loud cheers from awaiting fellow cops upon his case dismissal of the charges. For her unarmed son’s killer Constance Malcolm, as the bitter tears run out of in her eyes “That’s how they work,” the heartbroken mom said in a statement shortly after the Wednesday when Officer Richard Haste was sprung in the Feb. 2, 2012 shooting of Ramarley Graham. “You see it every day.” said Malcolm.

Ramarley Graham’s Mother Constance Malcolm also used two later rallies to express her grief and anger, often speaking in raw emotional and racial tones. “Modern day lynching has to stop,” said Malcolm, who along with her husband wore a T-shirt with a picture of her son and the phrase: “Where is my justice?”

The decision set off angry protests as about 100 people marched from Johnson’s offices on E. 161 St. in the Bronx to the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building on 125th Street

Unfortunately, Ramarley’s killing is only one of thousands of similar murders on the current forefront, and the case was is an important turning point in the New American Civil Rights struggle.

According to Reverend Gregg L Greer of The Freedom First International, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, “Despite the passing of years—in which evidence grew cold, witnesses have lied, or no longer were capable of reliable testimony—a number of these festering crimes have been resurrected with renewed vigor and prosecuted with impressive results. Regardless, It took 30 years, but the murderer of Medgar Evers was finally brought to justice.” “A full four decades passed before the courts were able to convict all living perpetrators of the Birmingham bombing. We must not stop until Justice is served on Ramarley Graham, and Kenneth Harding and any young life lost due to this senseless violence.” “They need to know our fight, continues and is ongoing, and you will not have “Peace,” until justice is  fully served,  also Haste is a living lie that must be prosecuted.” says Greer.

What You Can do!

Whatever we do, we must keep God in the forefront. Let us be Christian in all of our actions. But I want to tell you this evening that it is not enough for us to talk about love, love is one of the pivotal points of the Christian face, faith. There is another side called justice. And justice is really love in calculation. Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love.

Multiple Civil Rights, Faith based organizations and Social Justice coalitions are coming together in a “Multi National” cooperative on April 8, 2014 to begin the work in Restoring the Balance of Justice,” to communities across the country.

On Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 9:30 am hundreds are expected at both the State Capitol’s of Florida and The California State Capitol as “sister rallies” to “take a stand,” and to question, also combat the senseless and growing community violence and as they are also in opposition of national level laws-that are negatively affecting communities. Their concern is centered but against issues ranging on everything from Immigration Violence to Police Brutality and everything in between.

In both state’s Florida and California coalitions agree and see that the growing need for “Urban Leadership,” has emerged out of the reality of the poor, and the downtrodden and the negative effects are widespread in communities across the country for citizens who have to live in their existence seven days each week and 24 hours a day. The coalitions also believe that they could more or less address the core issues more efficiently and perhaps if they had “more” solid leadership to represent and advocate, them, also they urge that the “state of wellness,” may change, both nationally and worldwide.

Break The Grip of Shame Rally-Tuesday April 8, 2014

In Florida on April 8, 2014 at 9:30 a.m On the Anniversary of the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen, by a Hispanic neighborhood watch captain has prompted a global effort to combat Florida’s controversial law.
Stand Your Ground.

The theme is “BREAK THE GRIP of Shame,” because in Florida The number of questionable cases is increasing, mostly defense attorneys are using “Stand Your Ground” or sometimes referred as (S.Y.G) in ways state legislators never envisioned. It (S.Y.G) has been invoked in dozens of cases with minor or no injuries. For example, It has also been used by a self-described “vampire” in Pinellas County, a Miami man arrested with a single marijuana cigarette, a Fort Myers homeowner who shot a bear and a West Palm Beach jogger who beat a “Jack Russell” Terrier to death.

People often go free under “Stand Your Ground” in cases that seem to make a mockery of what lawmakers intended. One man killed two unarmed people and walked out of jail. Another shot a man as he lay on the ground. Others went free after shooting their victims in the back. In nearly a third of the cases, the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their victim — and still went free.

Human Rights Leaders from around the State of Florida have been invited to participate in a multinational protest rally against, Stand Your Ground, and Police brutality starting in Florida with calls to hundreds of students from FAMU, Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College and joined members of the Latino, Arabic, and labor protection communities to answer the call to protest at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee on April 8, 2014 this effort will be joined by similar efforts from around this country.

In a recent interview Reverend Reginald Gundy Florida State President from the Southern

Florida "S.C.L.C" is one of the major organizations participating on the Break the Grip of Shame Rally
The Florida “S.C.L.C” is one of the major organizations participating on the Break the Grip of Shame Rally

Christian Leadership Conference went on to call Florida possibly the last “Birmingham” of the South,” he continued, saying that it may be time to put “boots on the ground,” which might mean going after the economic system in the state, though he did not specify how that might happen.

The march is also had a strong emphasis on Community Violence against women, and immigrants. Example due to the rising amount of hate crimes against undocumented immigrants in Florida directed against Hispanics, Arab, and Muslims for the fourth consecutive year is particularly noteworthy and worrisome because the number of hate crimes committed against other racial, ethnic, and religious groups has over the same period shown either no increase or a decrease.

According to Gregg L. Greer the Florida Rally lead organizer, “The toxic environment in Florida and abroad, in which hateful rhetoric targets immigrants and women-while the number of hate crimes against Hispanics and others perceived to be immigrants steadily increases, This has caused an of heightened sense of fear in communities around the country.”

Immigrant rights are high on the agenda
Immigrant rights are high on the agenda

“We want to build a layer of protection, around immigrants, because we know that many are a target, and also they do not readily call for “police services because of their immigrant status.” Women are usually targeted due to domestic violence issues,: All must be combated, because they prevent us from being effective in communities across the country.

Over 21 families, are asking to California Attorney General Kamlia D. Harris, 32nd Attorney General of the State of California to review the “Policemen’s Bill of Rights” and police policy due to the rising use of excessive force by citizen murders.

The  State Capitol in Sacramento, California  for the United Families of California at the fifth annual Victims’ Rights March is a call to action for victims and their supporters to come together as they do every year on the steps of the California State Capitol to have their voices heard by their elected officials. This event is not considered a memorial, but rather a rally in which we encourage victims to visit their legislator’s offices and let them know how you feel about public safety issues. The California Coalitions and one of the leading organizers is the Oscar Grant Foundation,  and their Executive Director: Cephus ‘Uncle Bobby’ Johnson and will be joined by over 21 families of victims murdered by Police and most of the “Police Brutality” murders are in question and have current investigations.  for more information you may visit the following links https://www.facebook.com/events/155737031274252/

California fights the Police Bill of Rights

Over 21 families, are asking to California Attorney General Kamlia D. Harris, 32nd Attorney General of the State of California to repeal the “Policemen’s Bill of Rights” police policy due to the rising excessive “force”  citizen murders. They believe that officials are ignoring the fact that in California “Police brutality” there is a persistent problem.. The coalitions are calling this effect “State sponsored violence.”

One of the focal points of their agenda is in opposition-to those who know of the “Thin Blue Line,” think that this standard is “extremely,” questionable and is a code that compels a bad police or bad group of police to obey their own makeshift set of laws binding only to themselves.” “They are becoming like a “Gang,” states, according to one observer. While many Family foundations are leading the charge (too many to list)

One notable case was the case of Oscar Grant III (above, right) who was fatally shot by BART (Metro Train) police officer Johannes Mehserle in Oakland, California, in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day 2009.Officer Johannes Mehserle and another officer were restraining Grant, who was lying face down and allegedly resisting arrest. Officer Mehserle stood and, according to his attorney, said: “Get back, I am gonna tase him. Then Mehserle drew his gun and shot Grant once in the back. During his court testimony, Mehserle said that Grant then exclaimed, “You shot me! Grant was unarmed; he was pronounced dead the next morning at Highland Hospital in Oakland. Grant’s Death and the incident are the basis of the 2013 film Fruitvale Station. Fruitvale Station” followed the last 24 hours of the life of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan). The Oscar Grant Foundation has continued to work tirelessly for “just”  cause the effort includes this rally. Go to view the following links for more information on the march.

The Growing need for Urban Leadership In today’s modern age-The growing need for Urban Christian Leadership has emerged out of the reality of the poor, and the downtrodden, in our society and in communities across the world who live in their existence seven days each week and 24 hours a day. If we would just imagine for a second the correlation between poverty and lack of leadership in Urban Communities across the country-Then we could more or less address the core issues more efficiently and perhaps we could say if we had “more” of solid leadership to represent us, then our state of wellness might change.

What you can do to support this cause!

What can we as concern citizens, block club leaders and others do to stop violence? One thought is to be informed, find out what is out there, get involved. In FLORIDA and CALIFORNIA, theses organizations are partnering with other leadership/communicate about Violence Prevention in communities as a first step to educate everyone. (example, above)

Dr. King Later in the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” stated, “law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and that when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.”

"Letter from a Birmingham Jail April 16,1963
“Letter from a Birmingham Jail
April 16,1963

It is time to stop the onslaught. .. That is destroying our children and our communities. It’s time to help each other build communities at which point each of our kids, teens, and adults can seem sheltered and secure from crime,

We all must make the decision to:

•identify and raise consciousness of violence in all its forms;

•challenge the societal norm that violence is a normal part of life;

•help people own both the problem and the solutions, shifting the focus of action from the streets to the home and community;

•influence people to choose specific actions and behaviors that work and are positive, healthy and peaceful;

•encourage individuals to reduce violence; and;

•create a culture of peace, hope and trust by living this way to teach by example
