Gregg L.Greer Notes from the Struggle Editorial: What is the Value of a Black Life

Posted on Updated on

Nfts.jpg

Today, not more then one hour ago, I should on the front-lines for a very important, Protest. That protest concerned a young man who was unfortunately beaten to death on the South Side of Chicago in a small Arab Liqueur store while trying to steal a two dollar bottle of beer. Yes, the fact that he was stealing was wrong but the question of the hour was did he deserve to loose his life for that worthless item.

In truth, time again and over again-we see the lives of young black men, children and women have been stamped out due to a flurry of serious underlying causes, but when the life has been taken by police officers other means that directly puts the system at fault it would seem that the value and worth of that life is substantially diminished.

During, this protest the liqueur store owner who heard prior that we were going to be protesting, decided to place a DJ outside of the store playing loud gospel music (to drown out our protest and speaking). Even a catholic priest known in the community stood on the side lines for the liqueur store in case the local media showed up. Also, it is now believed that some of our brothers took concessions from the store owners to stand down to soften the protest approach.

Where I’m from-when advocating against an enemy of the people there can be no negotiation,no handshakes, and no side deals will be made.

The moral of this story is I have to say-I am sorry to say, many of us who live in the black community are often subject to unbalanced scales of justice-when it comes black life, the scales are double lopsided, and we stand in constant jeopardy of those who want top extinguish our lives. That leaves me to ask an interesting question:
 12-years-slave

How Much Is a Black Life Worth?
According to a recent article by The Root- Using these numbers, a black life is worth about $3,364,875 million, or—on average—each taxpayer shells out $50.06 to extinguish a black life, meaning that a black life is worth less than:

  • Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi commercial (it cost the company about $5 million).
  • Ben Simmons’—who played in zero games in the NBA this season—2016 NBA salary ($5.093 million).
  • A weekend trip for Donald Trump to Mar-a-Lago ($3.6 million).
What these stats say to the many is that our system fails to show similar concerns over the lives of those in the black community and for the conditions that we deal with daily. I know for a fact that some of you would rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with being an instant consignee to the system and does not grapple with elimination of the underlying causes, that effects your people daily. Master says, move and you move-master says, jump and you all in body and soul.

It is unfortunate that the demonstration that took place went wrong, it is more unfortunate that our city is one of the most segregated in the nation. A city where weaker minded black’s get it on with the white “neocon” racist power structure and they leave those of us who are progressive minded in the community with no alternative, but to be crippled and hurt in most cases, yet we fight on to give a lifeline to our people.

In our tragic history-Black bodies were brought to this country as a commodity, and the only thing that has changed to-date is the volume and projection of the auctioneer’s voice. In truth they still wear a robes. They still sell you off at the highest bid, and have no use for you once your life blood has been taken.

But “New Black Thought” say’s it is now time to leave the liberal plantation and secure a role in our historical struggle for emancipation and the redemption.
Yes indeed you are witnessing the making of a modern day revolutionary, who is unashamed, unbrought, and unrelenting. So I ask you gain, “What is the value of a black life.” (glg)

As I address the Christian community after giving much thought in the process of wondering about man’s end I couldn’t help but feel dismayed by the violence that is seen in the world. This violence is not only one that is physical, it’s also spiritually violent which is includes the tongue. Violence in the world is the result of the fall. This fall has brought in murder, hate, racism, torn marriages, the great divide between political parties, molestation of innocent children and war. We have seen slavery, the holocaust, and so many intricate factors where sin and evil is exposed. When will it all stop, how will it stop and what will it take for it to stop?

First all as Christians in the faith we have a duty to pray to the very God we believe in because it is the fabric how we should tackle the hidden world that lays behind the veil of realm, it is the invisible place hid from the eyes, it is that which we are unable see. What makes people hate so much? Is it because of jealousy or envy? What makes a husband abuse his wife or a wife to control her husband and do devious things to trouble his heart. This great divide in the comes straight from the powers that are unseen. It is not our government that we are fighting against, it is noted “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places, Ephesians 6:12” No Christian is a laymen or woman in this battle, this is not fight, it is more than a war, it is “Armageddon”  not the final war but a war that is bigger than life itself.

quote-for-we-wrestle-not-against-flesh-and-blood-but-against-principalities-against-powers-against-the-bible-303659

We are to arm ourselves, the scriptures say’s that we are to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the Devil, Ephesians 6:11. The Devil is slick and cunning and able to deceive those can’t discern between right or wrong. He lords himself over all mankind without a crown as king, he acts as if he is the creator when he is the created. The bodies of human beings are tools in his world to hinder the kingdoms growth. However evil cannot permanently reign, somewhere down the line it will come crumbling down.  Babylon came down, Rome came down, Egypt came down and countless others, even empires and kings.

When will it all stop? It will stop in the final analysis when Christ comes, “Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him, Even so Amen’, Revelation 1:7. How will it stop and what will it take for it to stop? It will stop when Christ overthrows the beast and all those who follow him that were deceived were cast into the lake of fire and judged, (Rev 20:10-15). God love’s the people and all those in whom sin has brought trouble to save them through his love by sending his Son into the world so that we may have life eternal. Christ wanted to bring an end to sin that haunted us for millenniums since the fall.  God’s love for humanity is the chief end to evil and sin. His heart warming compassion to the weak in spirit down to the soul he saved or rescued from being into the Lake of fire from it’s endless torment.

God will wipe away all tears from our eyes, death and sorrow and even those who suffered from the extreme pains of hate will have a place of rest with the father forever in Christ.  The only way to end this war with hate is with the love of Christ. shield-of-faith-clipart-1

For immediate Release: Social Justice Activist call for Accountability and Answers for the actions of Police who held children at gunpoint. To hold Press Conference on Saturday

Tomorrow April 29, 2017 –at 12:00 pm at Grand Rapids Police HQ

National news from Grand Rapids, Michigan shows a concerned mother is speaking out after an extremely disturbing video that was released showing officers holding a group of unarmed black teens, including her 14-year-old son, at gunpoint on the ground.

The incident happened after Grand Rapids police responded to a report of 100 teenagers fighting, but after searching the area police only found about 20 or 25 youths and no fight, and  obviously “no guns,” Grand Rapids Police Public Information Officer Terry Dixon told ABC News today

“Guys, get on the ground. Keep your hands out,” a Grand Rapids police officer tells a group of youths in the video. “Just follow our directions and we’ll be all right, OK?” This March 24 exchange, which was caught on body camera, came after a report of a group of teenagers carrying a gun; however, police later learned these youths weren’t armed.

Shawndryka Moore, whose 14-year-old son was among the teens forced to the ground, told ABC News in an interview that her son was confused and traumatized. “A whole month later it still hurts,” Moore said. “The hurtful part is how badly this could have ended. … my son and others on the ground by people that’s supposed to protect them.”

A police spokesman said the officers’ actions followed protocol and displayed “professionalism … throughout the entire ordeal,” though the spokesman added that “it is unfortunate … the teens had to endure this.”

The questions we must ask ourselves. We could ask-Why would any police take the word of a man and hold a pistol over the body of 13-year-old boys? Why would any witness’ story be changed? The statement below is from one of the organizers of the Press ConferenceIt’s because- They are victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill “us” if they feel threatened in any way by “us.”.We need more love in our communities! We don’t see the same love and acceptance for our black children unconditionally that you see in other communities even the white areas. Regardless of our child’s age- We demand respect and to instill feelings of acceptance and self-worth. I would suggest to the Police on the ground that day-”You teach children, by how you treat them, that they are valuable and worthy of love.”At any point, these children could have been a Trayvon Martin or a Tamir Rice! As Police Officials, you have the power to stave off feelings of emptiness that these young men feel day by day but it’s that unfortunate you choose not to! Instead, you penalize the children and for the rest of their lives, they develop a mistrust of Police Officials.Sure, you say that pointing the Gun at them was a protocol and procedure, but I ask did you- talk to your children about racism ― tell them that Tamir Rice was just an innocent child whose death was motivated by racism. Ultimately some of these questions will be answered by investigators. Other questions—the deeper, more disturbing ones that ask about equality and intolerance—must be answered by our communities, and we will not accept any answer as sufficient. We will be the voice that controls the Narrative of our community.

For your part, a public apology is in order and I also ask that you make a proclamation for change. Nothing else will be sufficient.

For my part I’m organizing a “Peaceful Protest Rally to be scheduled at  1 Monroe Center St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 at noon this Saturday.”

I recently saw kids huddled together last night around 7ish. I was about to get out my car when these two kids started walking toward my car. I was on business so i had to get out. By then they were right by my car passenger door. I got out and walked around my car and I watched them watch me. Then…They said, ma’am, we need $5 dollars to get on the train we short. I said let, me get back to you when I handle this business. I went in where I was going. I came out they ran back when they saw me get in my car and stood feet from the door watching me. Now to most that would be very intimidating and alarming and it was. But I kept my eyes on them as they watched me. Got out. Walked around the car gave them the $5 dollars. I told them “yall better not be out here on nothing bogus-” Do the right thing!  The girl said, “yes ma’am,”.. and I heard her say as she got the money and walked away. “cool got it, Let’s go,”.. and they started walking toward the train…

Are you going to Rob Me?                                   Conservative Headlines

Here’s the moral of the story…. As for me… When I encounter anyone asking for help.. if I can, I usually do. I don’t judge or worry about the true intention of the beggar. My own intention and heart is pure when I share whatever it is.. and, let the intention of the ill-intentioned fall where it may!.

I ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO SAFETY FIRST! Other than that for all you judgemental, nose upturned, memorized the bible but don’t, live it, ” holy rollers”, in the bible even Jesus asserted himself among the disadvantaged, the drunks, whores, thieves, etc etc to witness to them….isn’t that right? Well, why do you judge who and what you support.. in my story I thought that could’ve been, my kid out, there stranded needing $5 dollars to get home.. and thank GOD that someone came along who pushed past the intimidating factors to help him..or even your kid!! Come on, folks. Judge not or cast the first stone!!!! (LMJ)

Burning Bush Moments in Life

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016.jpg

burning bush
_
Today, as I think about the many changes that my life has taken, I felt the need to share with my faith audience my platform that has helped me time and time again when learning from the moments in life that things seem dark and hopeless. Fear not because God has given you a plan.
 _
God doesn’t always speak to any of us in the way we wanted or even expected. If we turn to our bible we know Balaam never imagined hearing from God through the mouth of a donkey (Numbers 22:28) or Mary was very disturbed when Gabriel appeared at her doorstep, as she was to learn of the savior that she was to birth (Luke 1:26-28) also Moses didn’t expect to hear a voice coming from the burning bush in the desert.
Moses
Amazed that the Bush was on fire Moses decided to investigate, and although God made the first move-As a man it was left to Moses to engage, and receive the directions that God was reserving for his life.
_
I define the moments as “Burning Bush Moments”-so what about you? can you think about any experience that you would consider a “Burning Bush Moment,” Well, here is the good news- God may be trying to speak to you though any situation in life large, small, good, bad or even something we may think is insignificant.
_
Please note that there are times when God’s voice speaks though larger events as well. If we can compare these Moments to television -we would describe these moments as “HD or high definition.” A note from my personal struggle is when I ran from the calling to become a Pastor for many years, God saw fit to humble me to submit because the lives of those around me were effected. For example when my brother passed in 1994 after struggling with a long-term sickness.
 _
In summary God could be trying to speak to you though any means, TV, radio show, friends, family and more. It is up to all of us to tune our senses into what God is trying to tell us, because “Burning Bush Moments” come in life on a regular basis-while they can show up in many forms-one critical thing that I can guarantee you, they may not always make life easier, but they will always make life more meaningful. Who’s burning Black Churches-What a Cowardly Act!

Posted on Updated on

GOWBanner

Church-fire-1

Most people are questioning why, black churches are burning? As The Atlantic pointed out in a recent article on the subject, there’s a long history of terrorism against black churches in America, one that begins in the era of slavery and continues up through Reconstruction, the civil-rights era, and into the 1990s.

There has been a recent flurry of black churches burning since October 8 (In the last 20 days) all within a few miles of each other around St. Louis. Five fires have been at predominantly black churches, while the sixth was at a mixed denomination church. Unlike the last wave of black church fires this summer in which weather played a role in some of the fires, these all appear to be the work of arsonists. Each fire has been set at the door, and while most have done minimal damage—one pastor called them “amateur hour” arsons—one nearly destroyed a building. The lack of media coverage about these fires is highly-noticeable, given the media’s hyper-intensive coverage of rioters in Baltimore setting fire to a CVS earlier this year.

The FBI is investigating the multiple fires as possible acts of hate crimes, but to date no arrests have been made, they (FBI) are waiting for more facts to come to light before drawing any conclusions about what happened and beyond that they warn communities  “to move with caution.” (See statistics below)

FT_15_07_23_churchFires

Federal investigators have said they have so far found no links among the fires at the predominantly black churches across the South, and currently none have been labeled hate crimes. Action against black churches is prevalent throughout the south, and in northern states minor reports have come to light but it exists.

Regardless of the investigation’s outcome, racism and KKK activity remain a fact of life in the United States. The last known stream of about 670 arsons, bombings or attempted bombings at mostly African-American churches was in the 1990s.
