Understanding Accountability to Grow a Emotionally Healthy Church

8/10/2018 7:30 am CST
If we are to grow an healthy and progressive Church we must understand that, accountability must go beyond positioning and entitlement but instead our effort is to promote a progressive and prosperous church that influences and motivate people to come into and body of Christ and want to develop a deeper understanding into the will of God.  These are the ways that any leadership in the church can start.

Understanding the Main Theme of Accountability

We must recognize that accountability is only possible when a person understands he is accountable to God. Jeremiah 31:33 promises that in the New Covenant people will have the law of God written on their heart. The person who is genuinely converted will want to do the will of God. They understand that God wills for them to be obedient children and is pleased with obedience.

Yet, the person who has not had a change of heart will not be truly accountable no matter what program or set of rules he is trying to follow.

Jeri

  • No doubt, all believers struggle with the temptation to sin, but we must not forget what Scripture continues to point us to; The Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Christian must be daily yielding himself and depending upon the Holy Spirit’s power in order to live a life of love and obedience.
  • If our first answer to  the question ‘How someone can live a life pleasing to the Lord?’ is accountability to other people, then we have truly missed the freeing, good news of God’s Word and are dependent upon the weak, overbearing, and useless arm of the flesh.
Developing Relationships Through Trust and Confessions

Yet, confession to other believers is good for the “Soul” and Biblical as we see in the Book of John. This practice is often neglected or on the other hand overbearingly abused. How one goes about bearing his soul to another believer is a delicate matter.

Let’s look at 1 John 1:9. It says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This pertains to the acts of sins, whatever they might be; the sinner is to believe he has sinned as part of this confession. And a note about the word “all:” All means not some. All means all. Every sin. All sin was remitted, paid for, and put away on the cross when Jesus died for us. Let’s not forget, now, that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. We all need this great forgiveness.

1Jn1 (1).jpg

  • Confession must always be based upon a trusting, Godly relationships should not be not simply a set of rules in some church group. It must flow freely and naturally. This means that before a person can be expected to confess what is going on in their life to individuals (not big groups), they must have trusted, mature friends who have their best interest in mind always pointing them to Jesus and not themselves or their personal agendas and values.
  • This kind of relationship takes time and effort. Before one can get to the nitty-gritty of their life they need to spend time with others just doing life together. As trust builds, so will the depth of the relationship from which confession can flow.

Lastly, our connection to each other means we must lay aside the island mentality. We do not stand independent of one another.

As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” . . . If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. (1 Cor. 12:20-2126)

Because such an interdependence exists within the Body of Christ, we are responsible to one another to do our part and to help them do theirs but it all starts with accountability.

Gregg L.Greer Notes from the Struggle Editorial: What is the Value of a Black Life

Posted on Updated on

Nfts.jpg

Today, not more then one hour ago, I should on the front-lines for a very important, Protest. That protest concerned a young man who was unfortunately beaten to death on the South Side of Chicago in a small Arab Liqueur store while trying to steal a two dollar bottle of beer. Yes, the fact that he was stealing was wrong but the question of the hour was did he deserve to loose his life for that worthless item.

In truth, time again and over again-we see the lives of young black men, children and women have been stamped out due to a flurry of serious underlying causes, but when the life has been taken by police officers other means that directly puts the system at fault it would seem that the value and worth of that life is substantially diminished.

During, this protest the liqueur store owner who heard prior that we were going to be protesting, decided to place a DJ outside of the store playing loud gospel music (to drown out our protest and speaking). Even a catholic priest known in the community stood on the side lines for the liqueur store in case the local media showed up. Also, it is now believed that some of our brothers took concessions from the store owners to stand down to soften the protest approach.

Where I’m from-when advocating against an enemy of the people there can be no negotiation,no handshakes, and no side deals will be made.

The moral of this story is I have to say-I am sorry to say, many of us who live in the black community are often subject to unbalanced scales of justice-when it comes black life, the scales are double lopsided, and we stand in constant jeopardy of those who want top extinguish our lives. That leaves me to ask an interesting question:
 12-years-slave

How Much Is a Black Life Worth?
According to a recent article by The Root- Using these numbers, a black life is worth about $3,364,875 million, or—on average—each taxpayer shells out $50.06 to extinguish a black life, meaning that a black life is worth less than:

  • Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi commercial (it cost the company about $5 million).
  • Ben Simmons’—who played in zero games in the NBA this season—2016 NBA salary ($5.093 million).
  • A weekend trip for Donald Trump to Mar-a-Lago ($3.6 million).
What these stats say to the many is that our system fails to show similar concerns over the lives of those in the black community and for the conditions that we deal with daily. I know for a fact that some of you would rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with being an instant consignee to the system and does not grapple with elimination of the underlying causes, that effects your people daily. Master says, move and you move-master says, jump and you all in body and soul.

It is unfortunate that the demonstration that took place went wrong, it is more unfortunate that our city is one of the most segregated in the nation. A city where weaker minded black’s get it on with the white “neocon” racist power structure and they leave those of us who are progressive minded in the community with no alternative, but to be crippled and hurt in most cases, yet we fight on to give a lifeline to our people.

In our tragic history-Black bodies were brought to this country as a commodity, and the only thing that has changed to-date is the volume and projection of the auctioneer’s voice. In truth they still wear a robes. They still sell you off at the highest bid, and have no use for you once your life blood has been taken.

But “New Black Thought” say’s it is now time to leave the liberal plantation and secure a role in our historical struggle for emancipation and the redemption.
Yes indeed you are witnessing the making of a modern day revolutionary, who is unashamed, unbrought, and unrelenting. So I ask you gain, “What is the value of a black life.” (glg)

Building God’s Kingdom Series on Organic Discipleship Part 2: Etiquette , Protocols, and Pure Righteousness in the Faith

Posted on Updated on

Faith and Leadership
gregg_greer_1379829951_87 Bishop Gregg L.Greer, Editor

Many times in the movement of faith people lack understanding of the basic rules that govern how we should conduct ourselves to make the faith experience as impactful as possible.

The major issues that govern how we should act are not necessarily written but some are implied and others we would expect to come naturally or with added logic-simply due to the fact that they follow the rules governed by society.

For clarification lets look at a few examples of what we mean:

Etiquette

Etiquette is a code of polite conduct. If you practice proper etiquette, you are less likely to offend or annoy people — and you may even charm them.

According to Bishop Don Adams Founder and General Overseer of the Building Gods Kingdom International Ministries and co-author of this series;

Without the proper etiquette-it is assured that issues remain in place that will take away from the faith experience….

Under this classification we could include items like:

Pulpit Etiquette -Before giving a sermon it is always necessary to announce, acknowledge and “Thank” the leadership of the church. 1) for their dedication to the faith, and 2) even if you are a guest preacher-it’s good practice to offer “Thanks,” to the leadership of the church (house)-for allowing you to come and share your faith in their service.

crowd.preaching

Protocals

If we were to look up Websters Dictionary we would find this definition:
A system of rules that explain the correct conduct and procedures to be followed in formal situations.
Spiritual Protocol is a reference to the respect, honor and deference due at all times to those in authority in the House of God. Many believers attend churches that are out of divine order and alignment. These churches are characterized by dysfunction, contention and continuous infighting.
Here’s a quote from Dr.Keira Banks as she explains from her introduction for the book Spiritual Protocols:

Dr. Keira Banks presents Spiritual Protocol as a tool and guide to assist pastors and believers in embracing the Biblical mandate for divine order in the local church. Pastors can use this book as a teaching tool in an effort to transition their entire congregations out of chaos and into the Kingdom of God realm of love, light, prayer and divine order. Individual believers will reference this book to ensure that their motives are pure and their conduct brings honor and glory to God.

This means the areas that protocols are set to address- items that are more standard policy either; written or expressed. For another example, a standard protocol in the church may be to open the service with a scripture reading and prayer-A process that most churches have adopted and follow routinely.

Lastly with that said, let us spend a little time on pure righteousness:

 Pure Righteousness

What about Prayer-What is the significance of using different postures in prayer?
This is another area where sometimes the most natural spiritual experience is hampered by the “money see-monkey do-ism” of the church; for example-praying in submission to God. (see example in illustration below)
Submission
This picture is an example of praying in submission to God

According to many people in the modern church- some love to pray in the “submission,” position. For our purposes-we only want people to let your posture express the attitudes of your heart. Not to follow someone else who you see using this prayer position without truly understanding what it means.

In the Biblical accounts of prayer, many postures are described. Abraham fell upon his face before God. (See Genesis 17:3, 17.) Moses prayed with his hands outstretched. (See Exodus 9:27–29.) King Solomon knelt in prayer. (See I Kings 8:54.) Jesus prayed looking up into heaven. (See Mark 6:41, John 11:41, and 17:1.)

Communication with God does not require a certain physical position, but postures do give expression to the attitudes of our hearts.

While we only provided a few examples-there a hundreds for more reasons why a little practice in learning to identify good “Etiquette , Protocols, and Pure Righteousness,” and how they interchange in the church can go along way into building a lasting faith experience. A more positive faith experience-where everyone is willing to come and share and grow in the Body.

Please know-these items are critical for faith leadership in the modern church to navigate and understand and apply daily.shield-of-faith-clipart-1

A Faith and Leadership Journal Commentary: Spiritual Warfare Part 2-Can Whole Communities Suffer From Demonic Oppression?

Faith and Leadership

Satanic-Ritual

Hello in part 1-We have stated in an effort to understand with the battle over demonic spirits we have to understand internal signs to avoid and so on.

Now the task at hand is how we need to acknowledge that we are in a real war with real armies and real weapons of mass destruction. Remember spiritual warfare is a battle that by definition, can involve combat between two persons, between factions, between armies and they consist of any type of “extended contest, struggle, or controversy.”

Now what that being said, the question came up-“can whole communities suffer from demonic possessions?” For reference,my answer to that question would be a very quick, yes! While this is not an effort to scare anyone the fact still exist that we must help people understand that the forces of evil are very real in this world.

For whatever reason, cases of alleged demonic possession have been on the rise in recent years and show no signs of stopping. Religious institutions around the world have been reporting an exponential increase in the amount of exorcisms performed by clergy, and many churches.

To prove this point for starters- we must understand that community possession can occur in many ways for example there is a phenomenon called “mob mentality” occurs when demons insert the same evil thought into a mob of people at the same time.
tulsa22
A lynching in the early 20th century. The white perpetrators smile and pose with their victims and fellow Klansmen

The Mob Mentality shield-of-faith-clipart-1

The moment the mob is caught up in passion, demons know the power of suggestion can become actionable and when this occurs, the result is a true phenomenon.  It is as though the mob suddenly behaves as if it has “one wicked mind.”  The fruit of demonic behavior is anger, hatred, violence, and destruction and when adrenalin induced anger goes beyond reason, you can be sure demons are present.

Lynching in the early 20th century (picture, above) is a perfect example of Mob Mentality-The white perpetrators smile and pose with their victims and fellow Klansmen who have murdered thousands of African American men, women and children then took pictures of the gruesome and evil event.

According to biblical scripture-The “mob mentality”  possibly could apply to the kingdoms of Sodom and Gomorrah (illustration, below) which we understand were allied with the cities of Admah, Zeboim and Bela. These five cities, also known as the “cities of the plain” (from Genesis in the Authorized Version), [Gen.13:10]  Divine judgment by God was passed upon Sodom and Gomorrah and two neighboring cities, which were completely consumed by fire and brimstone.

sodom-and-amora-natalia-kadish
Hebrew World News

Neighboring Zoar (Bela) was the only city to be spared. Sodom and Gomorrah have been used historically and today as metaphors for vice, sexual perversion, and homosexuality, although a close reading of the text and other Ancient Near Eastern sources suggest that this association may be incorrect.

On last point that I think it is very important to mention. According to historical research- it was during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the era of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, there was an ‘epidemic’ of such possessions. Some of the hundreds of cases that were reported were group possessions in which many people in small, close-knit communities, such as convents and orphanages, displayed the same symptoms. Why?

The question as to why and how demon possession can effect mass groups of people is a good question, but If we use our imagination and possibly some common sense then we can say yes!-that consistent bad habits and filthily living may be a chronic incubator for evil to exist, and demons to feel motivated to work. Examples can be areas where drugs become influences, prostitution, wild parties and sex clubs are largely frequented and so on.

As a person of faith our response must be a clean healthy lifestyle. Period! shield-of-faith-clipart-1

Faith And Leadership Journal Commentary-Walking the Walk

Faith and Leadership

Stop Frontin

In the life of a person of faith-very few things are as annoying as a “person” who talks faith, looks good but doesn’t add any value to the movement. This person misrepresents their actions and deeds by lying on the regular.

This type of exaggeration is not only a hold up to the church and faith community.  But, if I were to use a similarly situated secular example-I would use the example of a person who once said- that they have the skills of  Basketball Legend Micheal Jordon-but when on the court they could not even pull off a grade school level jumper shot-what a major disappointment. (picture, below).

In the life of those who don’t exercise faith-they will always look for a reason to put the church down. Let’s not give them that reason, by being insincere.

According to Apostle James in Scripture_ Faith without works (deeds) is dead (James 2:26 NIV). I agree with Apostle James-When your works and deeds don’t coincide-we must consider the following takeaways:

3-Takeaways

  1. Examine your heart, Ask God to help you grow in “TRUTH AND IN SPIRIT.”
  2. Find out what internal struggles are inside of you and if those issues prevent you from doing sincere work. Then remove those struggles!
  3. Remind yourself the next time you misrepresent your commitment you destroy yourself because everything we do in life echo’s in eternity.

Lastly, as people of faith we must be prepared to navigate the difficult lifelong process that is “our walk with faith.” Please know that you can’t do that if you won’t “walk the right walk.” SO STOP FRONTIN! (glg)

CHICAGO, IL,  Friday February 16th, 2018: Bishop Gregg L.Greer will announce the opening of Soul America International Records, which is promised to become one of Chicago renowned record labels.  Many know Greer as a seasoned civil rights activist, and Huffington Post Contributing journalist working for several years with civil rights cases such as Semaj Crosby, Tamir Rice, and also aggressively working to stop Chicago Violence at Freedom First International an organization he started in 2009.

Label History

Prior to his more recent civil rights work Greer was an independent music executive, studio owner, and sound engineer-who was once mentored under the staple of “Legendary” Chicago Producer the late Carl Davis. For the record-Davis-In the mid-1960s, he began working for Brunswick Records, where he produced Jackie Wilson’s comeback hit, “Whispers” and the million-seller, “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher“, as well as several early hits by The Chi-Lites. In 1960s Mr. Davis recorded then-Cassius Clay singing the Ben E. King hit “Stand By Me” in a New York studio with Sam Cooke coaching Clay on the vocals. He also founded the labels Dakar, home to Tyrone Davis (no relation), and Chi-Sound, whose acts included the Chi-Lites and Manchild, where the R&B singer and producer Kenneth Edmonds (aka Babyface) got his start.

In making the announcement, Greer says “Soul America International Records already has a unique spirit, cultivated by the elite group of creative record producer mavericks that he’s signing up for the label. Greer believes seasoned talent-will help  the rise of the label, they already are bringing eclectic artists they’ve worked with, and let’s not forget Produce Hits. For example one of our first acts is JuJuan Williams-who is associated with R.Kelly’s group Public Announcement, Williams will be among the first acts to be released off the label. Jujuan has written for artist on AristaBMG was well.

“I’m excited and honored about-What God is about to do in Chicago-said, Don Adam who has stepped into the Director of A&R pilot’s seat of this incredible “new record label” Adams said “I couldn’t be more excited to uphold-The legacy of Chicago Soul Music and long-term development of vital artists—a principle that has been the touchstone of my entire career as a Gospel Music Director. I look forward to suiting up as the newest member of the “top Notch” Artist Development squad at The Soul America International Records Group,-Adams also states, “we have the opportunity of a lifetime to shine the Soul America International spotlight forward to another generation of “Soul” music fans worldwide.”

Soul America’s Hit making production team is called “Soul by Design.” The basic recording will be done at Soul America Studios on Delano Court in South Loop (Chicago), 35th Street Studios, Chicago Recording Company CRC-a location that has hosted Micheal Jackson, R.Kelly and many more recording top acts-As well as a New York Location-TBA.

Film and Documentary Work

Greer wrote and produced an award wining documentary project  Called “The Chicago Way,” which premiered at the Gene Siskel Black Harvest Film Festival in 2017- the first of many documentary and eventually feature films that Greer expects to produce.

http://www.siskelfilmcenter.org/chicago-way-blueprint-bronzeville

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7243364/

Social Responsibility Platform

Greer also wants everyone to know-the Label will have a strong social responsibility platform at the core of its mission. When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When Chicago schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. I think the “Music and Movement” combination will help build a stronger anti violence message.

They (police) busted through the front door, guns drawn and demanded answers from the people inside. According to reports-the 10th district Police were executing a warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation that led them to the 4th district residence. Officers said during the operation, they inadvertently breached the door of the incorrect residence. Shanae Cross, the homeowner, said she was in the bathroom when the officers broke down her down with guns drawn.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the officers moved through the bungalow, trying to handcuff a 17-year-old boy.

Press Conference at City Hall tomorrow

The family members lead by Cross are conducting a press conference at City Hall tomorrow to ask for specific demands from the city including addressing a pending civil litigation. Attending the conference will be prominent community activist and also family members of other Chicago Police Brutality Incidents.
To some observers such mistaken raids are not just that mistakes caused by mounting police frustration with the growing drug problem. Instead-The Cross Family and Community activist want immediate change and all agree that the time is pat due for Chicago to address it’s police brutality issues against folks in poor communities head on.The group also wants to bring light to the fact that almost a year to date-The scathing Justice Department investigation was released which showed-the Chicago Police Department is beset by widespread racial bias, excessive use of force, poor training and feckless oversight of officers accused of misconduct.
The finding issued January 2017 as the Justice Department and the city of Chicago issued “a statement of agreement” to find remedies to improve policing in the nation’s third-largest city and repair a shattered public trust.

“Sadly, our thorough investigation into the Chicago Police Department found that far too many residents of this proud city have not received that kind of policing especially when it comes to poor community’s, and communities of color.                                                                                            Freedom First International
