One World Letter to Attorney Generals-and the Legal Complex-in New York, California, Texas, Florida, Illinois. The Fight is now!

This letter has been sent out as a “Call to Action,” for all anyone wants to read but it is directed at the Attorney Generals, and Legal Aid VP’s, because many agree that social injustices exist but have argued that the battle against social injustice should be fought solely in the courts, not in the streets. In this point I along with my supporters have maintained the belief that all communities and states were interrelated, and the fight is now! In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Letter:

Friends, my letter to your desk, has a twofold purpose, A time such as this challenges us all to find our humanity and demonstrate in concrete terms that the power of community can overcome the power of hostility.

I want to convey this letter not just as an expression of solidarity but a plea for unity following multiple unjustifiable and unfortunate events around the county. While this list is long,  I still want to list a few of the growing examples, that I have monitored both close and afar-they include The Death of Ramarley Graham, an unarmed teenager killed by police in the Bronx-Currently the family is calling for the federal government to push the case forward. Jr., Kenneth Harding Jr. who was murdered by San Francisco police at the age of 19 for allegedly failing to pay a $2.00 transit fare while the family (mother) still awaits information for an investigation of the police. What about-Eric Garner, Staten Island, New York, a 43-year-old asthmatic father of six, was confronted by New York City police officers for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes. When he resisted being cuffed, an officer appeared to put him in a chokehold—a tactic banned by the department since 1993. A video of the arrest, first obtained by the New York Daily News, shows Garner gasping, “I can’t breathe!” while officers relentlessly smother him: From New York City and LA to Ohio and Ferguson, MO, we are experiencing a flurry of young men who all died under disputed circumstances with Police Arrest.

All the incidents and hundreds more have opened our eyes to the ever-growing fragility of inter-relations across the country and reminds us, yet again, of the urgent need for citizens of all walks of  life to commit ourselves more proactively to live in mutual trust and respect.

What has been subject to attack is not only of importance to our communities but also the moral foundation of respect for difference and diversity, which encourages and ensures the equality for people of all walks of life.

Please recognize the damage that such acts are inflicting on our communities on the sentiments of many across the country who want to let you know that they feel, “alone,” with a sense of fear and loss. Contention is widespread, we must acknowledge the very act of targeting as being hugely detrimental to peaceful relations between communities, and we condemn the motives behind it. We hope and pray for justice and peace to prevail at this time.

Today calls us to be both a sensitive and perceptive in recognition of the global failure connected with nature of violence, and a form a newly reaffirmation of our commitment to grow in our understanding neighboring, collaboration, and cooperation to offer to protection the flourishing of all life.

Clearly,

  1. You must open the lines of communication with civic leaders who will carry a unified message back to communities.
  2. Seek cases where evidence is disputed and review higher standard. Citizen  Review Boards will work with you
  3. Training Leadership both Internally and externally on prevention, protection.
  4. Seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior, when municipalities are failing, and public outcry is high!
  5. To ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

In a spirit of such understanding we wish and hope that each incident, despite the traumatic and tragic dimensions, may be transformed into an opportunity to offer the world a glimpse of the best of your morality as you discern the way forward. To this end we offer you our support and solidarity. I hope to have a conversation with you in the near future this letter defends the strategy of  organized resistance to racism, I must argue that people do have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws.

I leave you with a word of caution, “If the community can’t find justice, Then I can assure you they will find Justice.” My hope is that I can dialog with you before, that time comes.

 With best regards,

Activist Prepares for Hunger Strike to Combat Police Brutality, Misconduct and Shootings in California

On May 13, 2014 A California Professor James Cosner will go on a hunger strike “to his death,” according to Cosner and Organizers (CAMPAIGN 4 JUSTICE) as a method of civil disobedience against the State of California in a battle for cause. Cosner’s desire is to bring national attention to the growing stream of violent deaths of many mostly young men (citizens)-the reason given-is the incredibly tragic way many have died (resulting at hands of Police) or better know as “Police Brutality.

Jame.3 (PS)

Although he (Cosner) has not fallen victim to directly to Police Brutality, Cosner though his long-term Social Activism has dedicated his life to the rescinding of unethical social and economic aspects of the Criminal Justice policies in California and abroad. Additionally, Cosner has had dealings with law enforcement, which is not unusual and usually “Power for the Course,” as most advocates consider civil disobedience to be a very successful method of fighting Injustice.

In California,  use of deadly force by police shootings continue to disturb communities. The “Hardest,” demographic base hit are low-income communities and communities of color. Many citizens recognize that no force is exceedingly more explosive and leads to tragedy, more than Police Brutality caused deadly force. Activist believe the multiple cases that most go under  Federal Justice Department scrutiny and investigation concerns are records of police wrongdoing addressed over the last several years, also any inquiries to the United States Attorneys and in addition to The Federal Bureau of Investigation. Activist believe the investigations, must include any/all Police Brutality cases handled solely by local police departments.

Cosner’s objection, while timely, is not without merit- to date there are a growing list of examples – one in particular, in Bakersfield California, a 911 caller claimed a, “guy” had been viciously battered to death on one road by eight police officers. The man, who died that evening, was father of four, David Sal Silva, 33. Two eyewitnesses claimed to have recorded videos of the beating on their cell phones, but local police seized the phones.

It has been two years since Kenneth Harding Jr. was gunned down in the Bay Area streets by San Francisco Police for allegedly failing to pay a $2.00 transit fare. With the particular example of Oscar Grant, Officer Johannes Mehserle claimed he mixed his service revolver for his taser. However, for what reason? Would the officer taser Grant in the first place? Grant continued to be restrained, also as he was circled by police officers and lying face-down in cuffs on the Oakland rapid transit platform. Many who know of the incident still question, under which? assumption did Mehserle think of the necessity to use any force at all? Officer Mehserle was eventually convicted in criminal court of involuntary manslaughter but completed less than two years in prison.

Rarely do methods of civil defiance draw the same level of public awareness as a hunger strike. This method has been used around world over to galvanize public support, unite a movement, and draw awareness to issues that under other conditions might go overlooked. What is completely reliant is how long the striker can continue to go without his or her most essential instincts, hunger strikes do not require posters or conference halls or television cameras. It is a method of dissent available to practically anyone, anywhere in the world.

Here is a brief history of more well known-Hunger Strikes. While Cosner has not made himself a comparison to anyone else- Cosner’s Actions are inline in comparison and also in the thoughts and views of many great leaders, examples include;

mahatma gandhi biography

1. Mohandas Gandhi
An influence for many non-violent peace demonstrations, Gandhi conducted a twenty-one day fast against British control in February 1943. A Separate fast in 1948 concluded after five days, with Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus declaring they would work toward Gandhi’s concept of comprehensive national solidarity.

2. Cesar Chavez
The Latino-American labor movement leader used hunger strikes on various occasions while agitating for farm workers. In 1968, Chavez began a 25-day fast to obtain recognition for the union he helped co-found, the United Farm Workers.

 bobby_sands_33. Bobby Sands
An Irish nationalist died 66 days into a hunger strike in 1981, and likewise Nine hunger strikers died after Sands after necessitating that many Irish Republican Army members were made political prisoners by the British during the unrest. The 27-year-old Sands dropped 60 pounds before he died.

Statement from James Cosner

On May 13th, whether I am one or many, I will not eat as a form of spiritual and political protest until either I return to my ancestors or until the government meets the following demands:

First: Free Leonard Peltier, Move 9/8, Mumia Abu Jamal, Ramsey Muniz, and Rocky Boice immediately!

2nd: Fire immediately and level 1st degree murder charges against the following officers:

Gregory Sur and company for killing Mark Garcia, retry Johannes Mehserly for killing Oscar Grant, John Moody for killing Ernest Duenez, Miguel Masso for killing Allen Blueford, Steve Gilley for killing Michael Nida, Manuel Ramos for killing Kelly Thomas, Richard Hastings, Mikeal Ali, and Mathew Lopez for killing Kenneth Harding, Dan Hurtado, Ray Drabek, and Mike Brannigan for killing Martin Angel Hernandez, John Nesbitt, Gregory Dunn, and Erick Azarvand for killing James Rivera, Dominique Perez and Keith Sandy for killing James Boyed, and ?? for killing Everado Toress.

no-justice

As landscape gets denser, more complex, the public outcry from inside California is growing louder, there will be more groups willing to come forward and engage the public, and the ability to undertake collective action. In the political arena, as the protests and demonstrations are increased Cosner and his group of “Freedom Fighters,” can only hope that their coordinated public effort with bring much-needed change.

I am committed to a particular course of action because I believe it to be true, my truth, and if I am wrong then I will take responsibility for being wrong. But, I do not believe that I am wrong.
We do wish for all the Creator’s children to mature, to grow up, to take responsibility, to find integrity, to secure intelligence, and achieve lasting wisdom.

James Cosner, Peace!

An Inspiring story of a single mother whose son was shot to death in the streets by Police, she battled and overcome great obstacles when trying to avenge he son. Now Denika Chatman is preparing for a Historical congressional run.

BY GREGG GREER EDITOR, ONE WORLD01 PRESS

SAN FRANSICO, CA. —It’s been two years since Kenneth Harding Jr. was gunned down in the Bay Area streets by San Francisco Police for allegedly failing to pay a $2.00 transit fare. Police later claimed that Kenneth Harding Jr., 19, allegedly shot himself to death during an exchange of gunfire with police as he ran away from two officers who attempted to arrest him for alleged fare avoidance.

The case of Denika Chatman, a California single mother of three, who has been in the center of A World Wind Landmark Police Brutality/Wrongful Death Civil Case against the San Francisco City Police.

July 16, 2011. Nineteen year old Kenneth Harding Jr. was brutally gunned down and murdered. While he was riding on the local T-train on Third Street, in an area where there is constant police observation and control.

While on Third Street and Palou, Police walked straight to Kenneth and asked for proof of ticket purchase. When Kenneth could not supply a ticket, the police removed him from the train. At that time, Kenneth broke away and began to run with his hands up and also while holding his cell phone. According to the bystander, reports Police Officers Lopez and Hastings then pursued him and gunned him down from two separate directions. For thirty, minutes Kenneth laid on the Street while a growing angry crowd mocked Police for not providing immediate medical assistance and going through Harding Pockets while he lay. According to one observer/bystander Mr. Pointer, “He was face down in a prone position, frantically slapping about in his blood like a fish out of water, and no attempt was made to give him any kind of medical help,” Pointer alleged.

Gregg Greer Chair of the Guilty in Innocence Project, and a member of the SCLC stated “The San Francisco Internal Police Investigation seems very one-sided.” The Harding Case deserves a detailed review on account of questionable Police Internal Affairs handling the case, Also Officials did not properly instruct  on how it was decided that the Officers were cleared of wrongdoing when it is clear that no medical assistance was offered for Harding. ” Video confirms, for 28 minutes, initially the police effort was geared at using drawn guns to control the crowd-while Harding lay bleeding. ‘This time may have proven critical in saving Harding’s life.

To preserve Kenneth’s legacy Denika did not waste time founding The Kenneth Harding Jr. Foundation, and afterward she began to organize various Community Organizing campaigns as well as the Occupy; one example, was when Chatman issued a call to all “decent people,” in the Bay Area, primarily the local residents and unionists who worked in transit to “Shut Down MUNI which happened on July 16, 2012! Chatman dedicated the effort in honor and remembrance of her son, Kenneth Harding Jr. and for all martyrs of police violence and murder. More than 100 demonstrators interrupted San Francisco Municipal train service for about an hour before peacefully withdrawing to march down Market; also Denika is the Co-Chair of the Guilty in Innocence Project  an Organization that fights against unjust or racially biased Death Penalty Cases Nationally. Election 2016

Election 2016no-justice

Ms Chatman has announced that she will run for State Senatorial Office  in 2016 and will not stop until she sweeps  away the last racial barrier in the San Francisco Bay Area .If Chatman is elected-it will be due to a repudiation of a historically high and growing level of unpopular civil and economic policies, committed against a minority community. Many Residents have already embraced -Chatmans call for a change in the direction and the tone of San Francisco Bay and the neighboring communities.

While 2016 promises to be historical election-so far, it’s Chatman’s race to lose. In the Solano County, California district that usually gives somewhat higher vote percentages to Republicans compared to the eight other Bay Area counties. Chatman seems likely to give her opponent a serious run for their money. Her supporters, she said, have been enormous in support for her throughout the year, as have the entire community. Currently Denika is preparing for a speaking and public support national campaign to gain “more”  momentum.

Meanwhile, Denika has advice for anyone to overcome the weight of life: ‘No matter what people tell you, you can “Choose Life.” and turn your life’s negatives into a positive.” she said
