Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke could be seen on dashcam video shooting the 17-year-old boy 16 times in the 4100 block of South Pulaski on Oct. 20, 2014.

Among the speakers at this evening’s rally will be Activist William Calloway (pictured right) William Calloway, who was instrumental in getting the Laquan McDonald tape released. Gregg L.Greer of Freedom First International, a Chicago-based organizer who has worked Nationally leading advocacy for the Tamir Rice case 12-year-old shot by Police in Cleveland, OH, has worked with the family of Alton Sterling shot and killed by Police in Baton Rouge, LA, well known activist-Tio Hardiman, President of Violence Interrupters amongst others.

This group of organizers have been on the ground in Chicago since November 2015, after an order from a Cook County judge, the city released the video, sparking weeks of protest and calls for Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, and then-Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy to resign.

This gathering is important due to attention the Laquan McDonald Bill is beginning to gain, support. The group hopes to reach state Representative, Barbara Flynn Currie who proudly represents the 25th District in the Illinois House of Representatives.  Curries Said, “I will do my best to respond to the needs of the District and of the vulnerable people across the state.

Thus far the bill is gaining the support of multiple Political pundits including State Reps Robert Rita (D- 28th District), and State Representative Barbara Wheeler (R-Crystal Lake). If passed the bill will be rare and historical.

National news from Grand Rapids, Michigan shows a concerned mother is speaking out after an extremely disturbing video that was released showing officers holding a group of unarmed black teens, including her 14-year-old son, at gunpoint on the ground.

The incident happened after Grand Rapids police responded to a report of 100 teenagers fighting, but after searching the area police only found about 20 or 25 youths and no fight, and  obviously “no guns,” Grand Rapids Police Public Information Officer Terry Dixon told ABC News today

“Guys, get on the ground. Keep your hands out,” a Grand Rapids police officer tells a group of youths in the video. “Just follow our directions and we’ll be all right, OK?” This March 24 exchange, which was caught on body camera, came after a report of a group of teenagers carrying a gun; however, police later learned these youths weren’t armed.

Shawndryka Moore, whose 14-year-old son was among the teens forced to the ground, told ABC News in an interview that her son was confused and traumatized. “A whole month later it still hurts,” Moore said. “The hurtful part is how badly this could have ended. … my son and others on the ground by people that’s supposed to protect them.”

A police spokesman said the officers’ actions followed protocol and displayed “professionalism … throughout the entire ordeal,” though the spokesman added that “it is unfortunate … the teens had to endure this.”

The questions we must ask ourselves. We could ask-Why would any police take the word of a man and hold a pistol over the body of 13-year-old boys? Why would any witness’ story be changed? The statement below is from one of the organizers of the Press ConferenceIt’s because- They are victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill “us” if they feel threatened in any way by “us.”.We need more love in our communities! We don’t see the same love and acceptance for our black children unconditionally that you see in other communities even the white areas. Regardless of our child’s age- We demand respect and to instill feelings of acceptance and self-worth. I would suggest to the Police on the ground that day-”You teach children, by how you treat them, that they are valuable and worthy of love.”At any point, these children could have been a Trayvon Martin or a Tamir Rice! As Police Officials, you have the power to stave off feelings of emptiness that these young men feel day by day but it’s that unfortunate you choose not to! Instead, you penalize the children and for the rest of their lives, they develop a mistrust of Police Officials.Sure, you say that pointing the Gun at them was a protocol and procedure, but I ask did you- talk to your children about racism ― tell them that Tamir Rice was just an innocent child whose death was motivated by racism. Ultimately some of these questions will be answered by investigators. Other questions—the deeper, more disturbing ones that ask about equality and intolerance—must be answered by our communities, and we will not accept any answer as sufficient. We will be the voice that controls the Narrative of our community.

For your part, a public apology is in order and I also ask that you make a proclamation for change. Nothing else will be sufficient.

For my part I’m organizing a “Peaceful Protest Rally to be scheduled at  1 Monroe Center St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 at noon this Saturday.”

For immediate Release: Press Conference Social Justice Activist call for Accountability and answers in the death of Shawn Brider-Today at 5:30pm

Posted on Updated on

Today  April 12, 2017 -at 5:30 pm at Chicago Police Station 3rd District 7040 S. Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

A group of civil rights activist and Family members said, Shawn Brider should have never been arrested Sunday night after falling asleep in a parked car with a child inside. At about 4:30 a.m., they were told Brider had died in custody at the 3rd District.

The man was found dead in the lockup area of a Chicago police station Monday morning in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Police reports said the man was found unresponsive at about 12:15 a.m. in the 3rd District Police Station lockup in the 7400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. As the day went on, the department’s spokesman said it appears the man may have had a cardiac arrest. Reports show about 4:30 a.m.,they were told Brider had died in custody at the 3rd District

Activist, strongly feel that Brider never should have been arrested on Sunday night for just merely falling asleep in a parked car even with a small child inside.  Activist and Briders family are questioning why Brider was taken into custody in the first place.
“He was just waiting for his girlfriend to come downstairs and he nodded off because he had been driving. They arrested him for that,” Kewonda Brider said.

“The Black Community in Poor Chicago are systematically being worn down and worn out by the constant microaggressions, When a suspect is arrested for merely sleeping in a car, we would have to ask the question where is the accountability? Did Brider have to be arrested and taken to the district or could he have been ticked?-The evidence is super compelling: The Chicago Police Department is in urgent need of reform. While the problems are clear, the path to solutions is filled with controversy. Even after Chicago Police Department was sanctioned by federal investigators who found that officers routinely used excessive force against minorities and tolerated “racially discriminatory conduct” by officers we still are seeing widespead abuse and issues-that could be rountinely avoidible.”What needs to happen is the time has now come for a frank and insightful discussion of what it will take to achieve true police reform in Chicago.  We will now push harder for the city to reform it’s policing policy.

Pastor Gregg L.Greer-Freedom First International, SCLC Chicago

Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has done an autopsy, but the results are pending more test results. Police are conducting a death investigation, and no further information was immediately available.

The Department of Justice better known as the D.O.J has failed. In the Aftermath-The results equal the death of accountability, of justice, and of deterrence. The result is a wave of crime against civilians in which these murderers continue to harm the public and further inaction from the D.O.J will only increase these crimes.

The ongoing protests in communities around the country have ignited a national conversation about the persistent and widespread pattern of racially discriminatory treatment by police across the United States, including unjustified stops and searches, ill treatment and excessive, and sometimes lethal, use of force.

According to an ongoing petition from Amnesty International:

The U.S. government must do more to ensure policing practices nationwide are brought into line with international human rights standards, including the use of lethal force, and to address systemic racial discrimination. The Department of Justice has failed to collect accurate, comprehensive national data on police use of force, including the numbers of people killed or injured through police shootings or other types of force.

Blue Lives Matter Not

7/22/16
Chicago, IL

This afternoon-Friday July 22, 2016 at 12:00 noon-The Freedom First International (SCLC), Southern Christian Leadership Conference (Chicago), Violence Interrupters, along with other Community Activist (groups) will conduct Press Conference at City Hall calling for the local (south side) Chicago community to come together in a effort to stop the blue lives matters ordinance. The group also plans to give Alderman Burkes office a demand letter to request that further plans to produce this “unfavorable”  ordinance immediately stop.

Chicago Alderman Ed Burke wants the justice system to treat attacks against police officers and firefighters like “hate crimes.” Which is routinely an instant felony

Burke proposed his “Blue Lives Matter” ordinance last month. It would give harsher penalties and fines for offenses committed against current or past police officers, firefighters, and emergency first responders.

The coalition of activists say that’s an attack on their First Amendment rights. We also say it’s a distraction from the real problem -specifically when it comes to abusive police officers.

While the City of Chicago is in the midst of reform and a Department of Justice investigation- this is bad for the City’s and CPD’s public image and further degrades public trust. It time to put these issues away because they are anti-community. Shame on Burke and anyone who supports this ordinance-the group intends to send Alderman Burke and members of the City Council a clear message. NO BLUE LIVES MATTER!

The Hate that Hate Made!

Posted on Updated on

Greer Front Banner 2016

On Today July 17, 2016, many are aware of the current national news headlines detailing two cops who were killed in Baton Rouge, and multiple cops killed in Dallas, Texas last week.

In the wake of Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Mike Brown in Ferguson, Freddy Gray in Baltimore, Eric Garner New York City, Alton Sterling in Louisiana and stolen lives-elsewhere, most of the time black people in city’s across America have known for some time that there is a deep rooted issue in our communities. Many of us are totally aware of the nature of police oppression and violence against the black community in urban cities. This has happened to such an extent that we as (blacks) expect from the police a regular “shake down, ” at least once in our life and for some-we’ve become immune to this treatment.

baton-rouge-police

So maybe we should just start by saying a black man is three times more likely to be searched at a traffic stop, and seven times more likely to go jail than his white counterpart. Blacks make up nearly 40 percent of arrests for violent crimes, but  over 60 percent of prosecutions. Everyday thousands of blacks have suffered subliminal forms of discrimination to harsh issues both inside and outside the criminal justice system. We don’t need social science research to show how striking are the racial disparities exist at nearly every level for blacks-just go into the hood and ask a black person!  We have suffered from mass incarceration by ungodly arrest rates, to unheard of bail amounts for minimal crimes. One truly doesn’t need to  shift through any vast body of research to find the clearest indicators of racial disparities at different phases of the American Justice

Another study, by The Sentencing Project, examines vastly disproportionate rates of incarceration for African-American Men. We should be asking ourselves why these disparities exist?

Black-men-in-prison-300x208

With institutional racism in Job, schools, and communities black  have no choice but to push our way forward from here,  and most will tell you they are long tired of being victims.

Gregg L.Greer-President, Freedom First International-S.C.L.C Member

I’ve said in the recent past- Tamir Rice, Eric Garner and others are not victims of the lopsided school systems that failed them. They are victims of a police force that overwhelmingly assumes first that most young black men are criminals followed by fear of them. They are a victims of bad legislation, like the Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, that gives anyone the unfettered right to kill if they feel threatened in any way.

With institutional racism in Job, schools, and communities have no choice but to push our way forward from here.

The Father of hate will forever be lies, the forested lie that hate tells is some races are better than others. Eric A Russell-Founder of Tree of Life Justice League of IL.

Yes it’s tragic that Police officers who responded to Sunday’s shootings killed Long in a gun battle after the other officers were ambushed, police sources told CNN.

It’s sad that two of those who died were Baton Rouge police officers, said Police Chief Carl Dabadie. The gunman also killed a sheriff’s deputy and critically wounded a deputy who is “fighting for his life,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux.

Another wounded deputy and police officer have non-life-threatening wounds, law officers said.

mil

It is with this thought in mind-that we embrace the pain-that other communities are feeling, because we know this pain-it’s a way too familiar pain. This pain has slowly given rise to Black Militant groups such as the one pictured above. (Armed Black Militants Prep for War-you tube)

The pain that black’s have endured for many years-which simply says-we are victims of a certain Moral blindness– Which means every single black person in the eyes of a racist  is the sign of a terrible crime from their ugly past, a reminder that their life is a fraud, that they need to simply own up to their past and make it right. Instead of denying, shifting blame, or to lie, twisting the facts and make black people into these ungodly creatures that they look down on, laugh at and yet, oddly, fear. It is a failed attempt to be at “peace,” with themselves. Can someone consider apologizing to the Black community for the long hard years of systematic oppression. Maybe the killings of cops would stop.

It is my hope and most likely a dream- that the President and others who discuss the tragic circumstances of Dallas, and Baton Rouge will spend equal time discussing the level of frustration in the black community- I will caution all that-the time came yesterday- when the black community grew tired. Please know that we don’t want to blame anyone for senseless loss of life-but please-please tell me who’s to blame for the “Hate that Hate made.”

 Peace and Love
