For immediate Release: Social Justice Activist call for Accountability and Answers in the death of Shawn Brider and Kujuan Raye Press Conference at 6:30PM at Chicago Police Board Meeting
(We will ask for the resignation of Eddie Johnson and The Mayor)
Today April 20, 2017 –at 6:30 pm at Chicago Police HQ
3510 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago. IL 60637
A group of civil rights activist said, Shawn Brider should have never been arrested Last Sunday night after falling asleep in a parked car with a child inside. The man was found dead about 4:30 a.m., the public was informed Brider had died in custody at the 3rd District lock-up.
Activist, strongly feel that Brider should never have been arrested on Sunday night for just merely falling asleep in a parked car even with a small child inside. Activist and Briders family are questioning why Brider was taken into custody in the first place.
“He was just waiting for his girlfriend to come downstairs and he nodded off because he had been driving. They arrested him for that,” his Sister Kewonda Brider said.
Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has done an autopsy, but the results are pending more test results. Police are conducting a death investigation, and no further information has been made immediately available.
John Poulos’s Investigation for Kujaun Raye’s Murder
Officer John Poulos is the Chicago Police Sgt. who is accused of killing Kujaun Raye, has a long history of various corrective actions in his file, 6 cases which include two cases of false arrest. Yet and still this officer was commended for, “Officer of the Month” in April of 2015.
2015 John D. Poulos received an award for employee of the month for April 2015. Also, John had been promoted to Sgt and also an instructor in the Education & Training Division teaching L.E.M.A.R.T. (Law Enforcement Medical Aid & Rescue Training) as well worked in the 007th District during his career. The annual salary is $101,442.
The investigation apparently went dormant because Poulos stayed off the job for another seven years, according to department sources.
Police Supt. Eddie Johnson has ordered an audit to determine why the 2004 investigation of Poulos’ possible ownership interest in a bar, a violation of department policy, has never been closed.
Owning or working at an establishment that sells alcohol is a firing offense, but Poulos went on disability shortly after the department’s Internal Affairs Division began looking at his ownership of a bar in 2004. The investigation apparently went dormant because Poulos stayed off the job for another seven years, according to department sources.
The still-open case was discovered when the department began investigation Poulos’ fatal shooting in November of 19-year-old Kajuan Raye, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
“The Black Community in Poor Chicago are systematically being worn down and worn out by the constant microaggressions, When a suspect is arrested for merely sleeping in a car, we would have to ask the question where is the accountability? Did Brider have to be arrested and taken to the district or could he have been ticked? Even in the Case of Kujuan Raye-The evidence is super compelling-it shows Sgt.John D. Poulos should have been fired, and the fact that with the lenghtly file he was promoted paints a picture of a Police Department that, is “out of touch.”
The Chicago Police Department is in urgent need of reform. While the problems are clear, the path to solutions is filled with controversy. Even after Chicago Police Department was sanctioned by federal investigators who found that officers routinely used excessive force against minorities and tolerated “racially discriminatory conduct” by officers we still are seeing widespread abuse and issues that could be routinely avoidable.”What needs to happen is the time has now come for a frank and insightful discussion of what it will take to achieve true police reform in Chicago. We will now push harder for the city to reform its policing policy. If Chicago is to move beyond its community violence issues and distrust of Public Officials then our Mayor and possibly the chief have to go!

When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. And, when criminals can buy weapons without having their backgrounds checked, we suffer from a modern plague.
This Vigil will be part of our early effort to “Prevent the critical Issue of Gun Violence” for 2017 in areas in Chicago where this plague is taking young lives in abundance. (This corner is where a three year old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in an apparent accident.) The goal is to stop unnecessary loss of life!

WHY: The issue of gun violence — more specifically, Chicago’s gun violence — is by no means a new issue. However, President Trump has singled out the city, even threatening to send in the federal troops, as a part of his “law and order” campaign. The current discourse coming from the White House focuses on more police, more prison and increased criminalization of Black and Latino communities as a solution. Unfortunately, this narrative of retribution fully incorporates the Fraternal Order of Police viewpoint without considering the concerns of the community.

In Chicago on Friday Morning the Department of Justice is expected to release it’s expectedly scathing report based on the federal investigation to access if the Chicago Police Department violated the civil rights of minority citizens with Police Brutality.
For the activist community leadership on the ground. We strongly believe through consensus that the Mayor, chief of Police and civic leadership who have been amicable to the mayor’s agenda have lost valuable time over the course of the past year by trying to adhere to artificial “benchmarks,” that have no real effect on true reform.
To date this trend continues and the Mayor and team continue to miss the mark by the way just merely responding to questions about whether the department needs to have in place a federal consent decree. We activists believe laying out new CPD department training and use of force rules are only a step in the process due to the fact that CPD officers today continue to act outside of public interest. If in fact the
The mayor recently said in an interview, “our commitment to reform will not change with the administration.” We activists believe that in the midst of a Trump regime that has promised to be Pro-“Police Enforcement and Prosecution friendly,” the move and emphasis for greater Chicago-must be on restorative justice and to bring balance to a fractured “Mistrusting” Chicago Community.
Emanuel also stands no chance of restoring public trust in the black and minority community, which were already shattered by his handling of the Laquan McDonald shootings Homan Square, Chicago Police Brutality, unless he leads the down progression toward eliminating police abuses that have dragged on for decades.
Although there’s no turning back on the road to police reform, the consequences of Friday’s announcement could be enormous for Emanuel.
But on today’s date a “question must be asked in lieu of the DOJ report release-That question is whether the Mayor and team have been truly effective on their job, or has the mayor truly comprised his credibility, and loyalty to the better interest of Chicago Citizens with regard to serious reform.

Dr. King understood that our greatest strength to establishing powerful relationships is to be honest about our greatest weaknesses. We have all been socially conditioned to worry about what others will think and it’s only when we share our failures, our sincere thoughts, and what we don’t know with them is when we grow as a human being.
When we connect deeply with people who have struggled, we bridge our world. The truth is that these moments of vulnerability are the very moments that we grow. When we connect deeply with people who have struggled, who are insecure about something, or who have failed because we’ve all been there. Dr. King understood while we all struggle, that it’s not only okay to be vulnerable, it’s crucial.
Thank You, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We celebrate You!

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 12-year-old boy wielding what turned out to be a BB gun when he was shot by police outside a Cleveland recreation center, whose name has not been officially released, was shot in the stomach, He was taken to a nearby medical center in serious condition, EMS officials said. Throughout the night his condition deteriorated and he died.
The shooting came after a man at the park adjacent to the rec center called police when he saw “a guy with a gun pointing it at people.“
The caller twice said the gun was “probably fake” and told dispatchers the person pulling the gun from his waistband was “probably a juvenile,” according to audio released by police officials late that Saturday.
The caller’s doubt was never relayed to the responding officers – one in his first year on the force, and the other with at least a decade of experience, Follmer said.
How could Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Jeff Follmer say “The shooting was in anyway justified.”?
In a television interview Jeff Follmer, not only refers to Tamir Rice, the 12 year old boy tragically shot down by cowboy police as a “man,” but put in no uncertain terms that the shooting was 100% justified. He said this as the All In show’s video crew played a side-by-side of Follmer talking and the heartbreaking security cam video of Tamir Rice’s death.
He (Jeff Follmer) go’s on to say, “”If you listen to us you wouldn’t be dead right now.” Remember folks — its easy! Just do everything we tell you exactly when we tell you and you wont be dead. By the way, you have 3 seconds before your life is over. No pressure!
The rookie officer saw the boy at a park bench pick up what looked like a gun and placed it in his waistband, Follmer said.
The officer ordered the boy to put his hands in the air. Instead, police said, the boy reached for his gun. Deputy Chief Edward Tomba said the boy made no verbal threats to the officer and there was no physical confrontation.
The officer fired twice at the boy, hitting him in the stomach at least once. The department’s Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.
This Sadistic Pathetic Cowboy (Follmer) has the audacity to call a dead youth’s murder justified. This is why, we see harm with the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they are sworn to protect, sowing suspicion where trust is urgently needed. False sentiment and absolute ignorance will continue to have an impact in targeted communities. The results can be catastrophic for all ,This must stop!
In the mean time my organization Freedom First International and the Guilty In Innocence Project have both asked for the immediate removal of Jeff follmer Please join us:

Friends, I hope this message finds you in Peace and in Love,
I want to indicate the exact reasoning why I wrote this post-case in point that is over the past ten years I have been heavenly influenced by the plight of those less fortunate or the poor. My goal was not to seek empathy, but my “Clarion Call,” came through the need to assist others. After the experience of the death of a “loved one,” up until that point I quickly discovered how God humbles men to submit to his will. As the scripture in the book of Prophet James says, “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” Moving forward-I can honestly say my first direct action campaign was to advocate with The American Civil Liberties Union vs. The Death Penalty. The ACLU is nonpartisan organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution. I must argue that the current state of our country has readily shown me that perhaps many people’s view of constitutional rights is purely subjective to say the least.
Over the last five years, I’ve had honor of serving as a general member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and within the past year organizing as a Chapter President in the SCLC State of Florida under the great leadership of Pastor RL Gundy. While, there frequently we would be called to engage in nonviolent direct action programs if deemed necessary. As a man of faith, I felt an urgency to live up to that promise. In early 2012 while on the way to a meeting in Atlanta, Georgina with then S.C.L.C Executive Director Damien Connors, I was contacted by members of a committee to assist members of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Family in an initiative that would counter the removal of then SCLC President Issac Farris. I decided to give strategic and operational support to this effort because I specialize in both areas through training and attrition. Though the campaign was short-lived, very valid points became readily apparent.
Up until that point until the present time I participated as a growing national leader in advocating and organizing many campaigns for human rights, examples include as lead advocate George Stinney Jr. vs. South Carolina, The Florida (National) Battle vs. Stand Your Ground to name a few. All these events have heightened my concern because many of us are doing the work of our First National President Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as an obligation to the legacy. Moreover because we are called by God to do his will. Other great standouts are SCLC Chapter of Jacksonville, Florida (great organization), SCLC Peoples Coalition (unofficial, but growing), SCLC Roanoke, VA (great organization), SCLC State Chapter of Texas and many more.
Moreover, I am aware of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. Over the past few years I along with many have concern if and why the National Leadership would sit back idly and not “show in prove,” concern about what happens in Ferguson, Mo., New York, NY., Chicago, IL., In truth Dr. King once told us “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” While this was a bidding concern for many of us, in truth every day It has become readily apparent that we have been absent from the national frontlines. It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place around the country, but it is even more unfortunate that the power structure left the African-American community and others with no alternative. Where are we as an organization in all of this?
In truth at this most important time in our nation, we need you as our voice to stand up! To take a side, to enter into the national concern, to become a voice, to break through dissidence and continue the work as our founders have given their lives to our cause. For the record I must say; I give my life to this cause, and I’ll die for the cause.
Note: I have started an alternative organization Freedom First International because I didn’t want to worry about the overall impression of taking liberties from our organization here because I have organizational ties there and Freedom First was born out of the rich tradition of the SCLC. Freedom started as a Chapter Affiliate. Our motto “Fiat justitia, et pereat mundus” is a Latin phrase, meaning: “Let there be justice, though the world perish.” I would never compare the two, but I honor and preserve the mandate of those who died on the front lines of love for us! So, we work toward the future!
I still believe in our organization, as Dr.King said, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
I hope this message finds you in “Peace and Love,” but ultimately my three questions to you; 1) are we standing on the wrong side of history? or 2) with our founders legacy at stake are we standing in the shadows of love? 3) Can we redeem? – I (many) need to know.
