Garry McCarthy to resign.

This gathering is important due to attention the Laquan McDonald Bill is beginning to gain, support. The group hopes to reach state Representative, Barbara Flynn Currie who proudly represents the 25th District in the Illinois House of Representatives.  Curries Said, “I will do my best to respond to the needs of the District and of the vulnerable people across the state.

Thus far the bill is gaining the support of multiple Political pundits including State Reps Robert Rita (D- 28th District), and State Representative Barbara Wheeler (R-Crystal Lake). If passed the bill will be rare and historical.

When 30,000 Americans die each year due to gun violence, it is time to acknowledge that we are suffering from a modern plague. When schoolchildren are gunned down by single shooters with a high-capacity magazine, we suffer from a modern plague. And, when criminals can buy weapons without having their backgrounds checked, we suffer from a modern plague.

This Vigil will be part of our early effort to “Prevent the critical Issue of Gun Violence” for 2017 in areas in Chicago where this plague is taking young lives in abundance. (This corner is where a three year old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in an apparent accident.) The goal is to stop unnecessary loss of life!

The current discourse coming from the White House focuses on more police, more prison and increased criminalization of Black and Latino communities as a solution. Cleveland Police Union Chief Jeff Follmer said, 12 year old’s shooting was justified

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 12-year-old boy wielding what turned out to be a BB gun when he was shot by police outside a Cleveland recreation center, whose name has not been officially released, was shot in the stomach, He was taken to a nearby medical center in serious condition, EMS officials said. Throughout the night his condition deteriorated and he died.

th
Tamir rice Slain 12 year old

The shooting came after a man at the park adjacent to the rec center called police when he saw “a guy with a gun pointing it at people.

The caller twice said the gun was “probably fake” and told dispatchers the person pulling the gun from his waistband was “probably a juvenile,” according to audio released by police officials late that Saturday.

The caller’s doubt was never relayed to the responding officers – one in his first year on the force, and the other with at least a decade of experience, Follmer said.

JF
Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Jeff Follmer

How could Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Jeff Follmer say “The shooting was in anyway justified.”?

In a television interview Jeff Follmer, not only refers to Tamir Rice, the 12 year old boy tragically shot down by cowboy police as a “man,” but put in no uncertain terms that the shooting was 100% justified. He said this as the All In show’s video crew played a side-by-side of Follmer talking and the heartbreaking security cam video of Tamir Rice’s death.

He (Jeff Follmer) go’s on to say, “”If you listen to us you wouldn’t be dead right now.” Remember folks — its easy! Just do everything we tell you exactly when we tell you and you wont be dead. By the way, you have 3 seconds before your life is over. No pressure!

The rookie officer saw the boy at a park bench pick up what looked like a gun and placed it in his waistband, Follmer said.

Tamir_Rice_airsoft_BB_gun_1416852471112_9829902_ver1_0_640_480

The officer ordered the boy to put his hands in the air. Instead, police said, the boy reached for his gun. Deputy Chief Edward Tomba said the boy made no verbal threats to the officer and there was no physical confrontation.

The officer fired twice at the boy, hitting him in the stomach at least once. The department’s Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.

This Sadistic Pathetic Cowboy (Follmer) has the audacity to call a dead youth’s murder justified.  This is why, we see harm with the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they are sworn to protect, sowing suspicion where trust is urgently needed. False sentiment and absolute ignorance will continue to have an impact in targeted communities. The results can be catastrophic for all ,This must stop!

In the mean time my organization Freedom First International and the Guilty In Innocence Project have both asked for the immediate removal of Jeff follmer Please join us:

Notes from my Struggle: S.C.L.C-Standing in the Shadows of Love

Posted on Updated on

One World By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the SCLC First President
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the SCLC First President

Friends, I hope this message finds you in Peace and in Love,

I want to indicate the exact reasoning  why I wrote this post-case in point that is over the past ten years I have been heavenly  influenced by the plight of those less fortunate or the poor. My goal was not to seek empathy, but my “Clarion Call,” came through the need to assist others. After the experience of the death of a “loved one,” up until that point I quickly discovered how God humbles men to submit to his will. As the scripture in the book of Prophet James says, “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”  Moving forward-I can honestly say my first direct action campaign was to advocate with The American Civil Liberties Union vs. The Death Penalty. The ACLU is nonpartisan organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution.  I must argue that the current state of our country has readily shown me that perhaps many people’s view of constitutional rights is purely subjective to say the least.

imagesSEHH8FFC

Over the last five years, I’ve had honor of serving as a general member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and within the past year organizing as a Chapter President in the SCLC State of Florida under the great leadership of Pastor RL Gundy. While, there frequently we would be called to engage in nonviolent direct action programs if deemed necessary. As a man of faith, I felt an urgency to live up to that promise. In early 2012  while on the way to a meeting in Atlanta, Georgina with then S.C.L.C Executive Director Damien Connors, I was contacted by members of a committee to assist members of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Family in an initiative that would counter the removal of then SCLC President Issac Farris. I decided to give strategic and operational support to this effort because I specialize in both areas through training and attrition. Though the campaign was short-lived, very valid points became readily apparent.

Up until that point until the present time I participated as a growing national leader in advocating and organizing many campaigns for human rights, examples include as lead advocate George Stinney Jr. vs. South Carolina, The Florida (National) Battle vs. Stand Your Ground to name a few. All these events have heightened my concern because many of us are doing the work of our First National President Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as an obligation to the legacy. Moreover because we are called by God to do his will. Other great standouts are SCLC Chapter of Jacksonville, Florida (great organization),  SCLC Peoples Coalition (unofficial, but growing), SCLC Roanoke, VA (great organization), SCLC State Chapter of Texas and many more.

Moreover, I am aware of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. Over the past few years I along with many have concern if and why the National Leadership would sit back idly and not “show in prove,” concern about what happens in Ferguson, Mo., New York, NY., Chicago, IL., In truth Dr. King once told us “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” While this was a bidding concern for many of us, in truth every day It has become readily apparent that we have been absent from the national frontlines.  It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place around the country, but it is even more unfortunate that the power structure left the African-American community and others with no alternative. Where are we as an organization in all of this?

In truth at this most important time in our nation, we need you as our voice to stand up! To take a side, to enter into the national concern, to become a voice, to break through dissidence and continue the work as our founders have given their lives to our cause. For the record I must say; I give my life to this cause, and I’ll die for the cause.

Freedom First
our motto “Fiat justitia, et pereat mundus” is a Latin phrase, meaning: “Let there be justice, though the world perish.”

Note: I have started an alternative organization Freedom First International because I didn’t want to worry about the overall impression of taking liberties from our organization here because I have organizational ties there and Freedom First was born out of the rich tradition of the SCLC. Freedom started as a Chapter Affiliate. Our  motto “Fiat justitia, et pereat mundus” is a Latin phrase, meaning: “Let there be justice, though the world perish.” I would never compare the two, but I honor and  preserve the mandate of those who died on the front lines of love for us! So, we work toward the future!

I still believe in our organization, as Dr.King said, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

I hope this message finds you in “Peace and Love,” but ultimately my three questions to you;  1) are we standing on the wrong side of history? or 2) with our founders legacy at stake are we standing in the shadows of love? 3) Can we redeem? – I (many) need to know.

The Necessity for Urban Christian Leadership. Part 2

One World The Necessity for Urban Christian Leadership. Part 2

By Gregg L Greer, Editor for One World

In today’s modern age-The growing need for Urban Christian Leadership has emerged out of the reality of the poor, and the downtrodden, in our society and in communities across the world. The poor live in their sad existence seven days each week and 24 hours a day-change must come! If we would just imagine for a second the correlation between poverty and lack of leadership in urban communities across the country-Then we could more or less address the core issues more efficiently and perhaps we could say if we had “more” of solid leadership to represent us, then our state of wellness might change possibly overnight.

Book release 10-31-2014

The Need for Urban Christian Leadership. Book release 10-31-2014
The Need for Urban Christian Leadership. Book release 10-31-2014

The series is an excerpt from the book the “The Necessity of Urban Christian Leadership.” Which is written by Pastor Gregg L. Greer and the sponsor is the Urban Christian leadership Institute. This book is our opening season effort that means to address the serious need for leadership in every community around the world, overall our concern is to address the Urban Christian Leadership quality or lack of;

Philippians 2:3-4 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (NKJV)

Most people understand that our desire for satisfaction always dictates the direction of our lives–whether it be the hunger of our stomachs, the desire for material wealth or prestige, or the longings of our spirits for God. But for Christian Communities around the world, the hunger for anything outside of the will and direction of God can be an enemy. While our hunger for God–and Him alone–is the only thing that will always bring life’s victory overall. If we are to understand the issue that affects our leadership, we must understand how to 1) first Recognize the core of the problem, and 2) secondly we need to understand why, the problem with leadership exist, one rational to consider is people’s “questionable,” Hunger for change.

Recognize and Resolve the problem!

Let’s be very honest: In many churches around the world the pipeline for “Salvation,” within the church is not the same thing as a pipeline that breeds and multiplies leaders. These are two different things. In truth, you need both-Followers and Leaders! Currently, most churches have only one-thus our communities truly do not have a conduit for leadership. If we are to consider helping one another then we must make a commitment to live our lives in search of Justice, and Truth everyday. May I offer just to make one simple suggestion-Make a Resolution? Commit to change today!

Plan of SalvationEvery year, As I have grown wiser in recognizing the will of God and I won’t partake in New Year’s resolutions anymore, if I can help it. For my direction, I now try to do that which God wills me to do everyday! – Ecclesiastes 5:18, which is to relax and enjoy the life He has given! Remembering this life is but a vapor and things staying cleaned are less than that.

The main question that we must answer is what sort of resolutions with God would you want to make? What would God endorse? To answer those questions quickly – any resolution that sees eye to eye with his (God) word (His will) is the type God wants you to make. In the rest of this I will answer those questions with some down to earth humor and of course Biblical insights.

 Hunger for Change

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

If one is a true Christian leader he must seek vision from God within the community and then being given the holy power to execute that vision — I call this “Our biblical marching orders.” That’s the birthright of every Christian…to hear the calling of the “Heavenly,” Father. But, in the way we handle our leadership, suddenly it’s set up whereas only the select and the elite few in our church-who are given this privilege. And let’s be clear: Our ego has a lot to do with this.

Independence in the church and community must be taught, People must take a stand and commit change. understand God doesn’t mind at all if you want to –, walk 20 miles a day, go back to college, learn to play the banjo, read all of 3000 of the T.D Jakes book collection in one night, if you paint your house that pink color you have always loved, stand outside in your underwear while drinking sassafras tea in the rain (I hope not!) or, even dance the night away to the 50’s oldies and so on. In truth our independent thought helps us all in our effort to evangelize the world.

Yet, we must always be mindful that, physical things have worth but godliness or godly living has the only value needed to improve our present life circumstance as well as for our life in eternity. Hello! for some that would be a wow principal concerning godly living! Here are a few items one must consider;

  • We do not seek a single virtue of justice or rectitude toward others. The essence of Godly Living, for us (Christians) is state of harmony within your mind heart and soul; that is the seed out of which all single righteous virtues may grow.
  • We should not merely a desire to be righteous-ignoring the world at large. As people of Faith, God’s love must be shared with all even (Non Believers).
  • If there is a desire for merely for doing righteous things, but not for being righteous-then our effort is devoid!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Speech: March 13, 1968

Have I Done Enough?” Dr. King’s Legacy Forces everyone one of us to Ask Ourselves!

My Question;  Can you take to heart the following words Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  spoke just four days before he was gunned down ?? “First, we are challenged to develop a world perspective. No individual can live alone, no nation can live alone, and anyone who feels that he can live alone is sleeping through a revolution.

“One day we will have to stand before the God of history and we will talk in terms of things we’ve done. Yes, we will be able to say we built gargantuan bridges to span the seas, we built gigantic buildings to kiss the skies. Yes, we made our submarines to penetrate oceanic depths.

We brought into being many other things with our scientific and technological power.

It seems that I can hear the God of history saying:

 ‘That was not enough!

But I was hungry, and ye fed me not. I was naked, and ye clothed me not. I was devoid of a decent sanitary house to live in, and ye provided no shelter for me. And consequently, you cannot enter the kingdom of greatness. If ye do it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye do it unto me.’

That’s the question we are facing to this day today

  In Summary!

I fear some are not hungry for righteousness, but for the only for rewards of righteousness. Worldly goods cannot fill the soul of a man. Intellectual attainment cannot. Goodness will satisfy. There is no condition where we cannot be satisfied in the enjoyment of righteousness. Goodness does not forsake a man.righteousness-defined

Being a disciple means being a learner of all the things Jesus was — and we know Jesus did multiply leaders. Scripture outlines truly practical models for church leadership you can learn to put into practice in your own context to begin identifying, training, and releasing kingdom leaders to do God’s work in the world. I’ve done it and I’ve seen other people do it all over the world. It can be done and done with incredible results.

The necessity for Urban Christian Leadership or any good leadership is deeply felt and needed around the world. This need starts with a special condition of the mind,  and, an indication of a healthy, spiritual life which all people of faith must learn to receive-Post Haste!

Today Wael Ghonim reserves a special place in the more dubious history of Egypt as someone whom TIME Magazine calls one of the 100 most influential people of 2011. The reason Wael was given this title involves events the surrounding one date when the 29-year-old (now he’s 32) was working for Google Marketing division while living in Dubai.  Ghonim the MBA educated then 29-year-old, Gained international prominence, when after viewing pictures of the Revolution in Egypt, specifically the gruesome and disturbing picture of a young Egyptian national named Khaled Mohamed, a 28-year-old from Alexandria,  who was reported as murdered by the Egyptian Police during the Arab Spring riots.

‘Ghonim was so moved by the pictures that he then instituted a variety of social messages through a Facebook that he designed to diminish the threat to the then power 25th of Jan revolution structure of the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi backed forces. The Ghonim Facebook page called “We are all Khaled Saeed“, was started, and within minutes hundreds of people had joined it. Three months later, that estimate had grown to more than 250,000.

Ghonim took a leave of absence from Google January 2011  indicating a “personal problem”, Ghonim then returned to Egypt choosing to partake in the Egyptian Revolution. Ghonim disappeared on January 27, 2011 during the nationwide unrest in Egypt. It was discovered that upon his return to Egypt, he was incarcerated by Egyptian “secret” police during which time he was interrogated for 11 Days considering his work as the leader of the Facebook page, “We are all Khaled Saeed.”

Ghonim was released after a vigorous public service campaign to identify his whereabouts. The Morsi lead “Egyptian Brotherhood” Party eventually fell apart due to their complete failure in governing to internal disputes. On July 2, 2013 President Morsi publicly rejected the Egyptian Army‘s 48-hour ultimatum and vowed to pursue his own plans for national reconciliation and resolving the political crisis. Within 24 hours Morsi was ejected from office by revolutionary forces.  To date the rising death toll and increasing disorder in major Egyptian cities,  eliminate the possibilities of a return towards anything resembling normalcy are very slim.

Ghonim, is credited because he anonymously collaborated with activists on the ground to announce the locations for the protest which was successful because he advocated a focus on community service linked with self-defense; which guided others, to embrace a less confrontational strategy. Also, Ghonim attributed his success to being able to openly criticize the Morsi Party Government  by  adopting a “reformist” rather than “revolutionary” strategy that focused on community service.
